10 Resorts in Tucson: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 22, 2023 Cedrick Jardin

Although Tucson's fantastic weather, national parks and forests and desert provide the perfect environment for tons of outdoor recreational activities, this city of half a million people also has its share of history and culture. With a history that goes back much further than many of its southwestern neighbors, Tucson boasts turn-of-the-century architecture, historic neighborhoods, museums and the Mission San Xavier del Bac, a still-functioning 18th-century mission considered one of the most beautiful in the U.S. Mexican and Native American influences are pervasive, and the city has a distinctly Western flavor. There's also a college-town atmosphere, thanks to the University of Arizona, which has its own share of museums and a science center. Whether golfing at a world-class golf resort, horseback riding, hiking in the wilderness, discovering desert flora and fauna at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum or exploring pre-Columbian and other art at the Tucson Art Museum, you'll have a mind-boggling array of things to do.

Beautiful Resort

Reviewed By MyrtleWiltshire

We loved our Sonoran king room on the ground floor looking towards the Santa Catalina mountains, a patio with outdoor shower (which we didn’t use as it didn’t look very user friendly) and our “own” huge saguaro cactus next to the patio. We felt like we were on the edge of the desert, it was very quiet and restful. Spacious, beautifully decorated bedroom and shower room. Very pleasant to stroll round the grounds admiring the cacti and succulents. We dined both evenings of our stay in the Grill restaurant which is supposed to be fine dining. We didn’t think it was fine dining, the choices on the menu quite simple, but we enjoyed what we ate and were impressed that Arizonan wine was on the wine list. Breakfast sitting outside at the terrace restaurant was very good - but do they really need to air condition the outside air, especially first thing in the morning?

Great Experience & Value

There is a lot to love about this hotel. -The pool area is perfect, lots of space to spread out even when its busy. -Lots to do. There is a hike, fantastic gym, tennis courts, spa, it has everything you need. -There are two pools, one is a bit quieter and technically an "adult pool" where we only ever saw one person use it. -Service was excellent. They have a text line we used a lot and received prompt responses. -They had a stargazing experience with a professional astronomer that was really really cool. -They had live music every night that was really entertaining. -I loved that our room had a balcony with chairs and that this was available in every room. -The Ventana Canyon trailhead is a short walk from the hotel. Lots of long hikes to go on! -The room had a mini-fridge, hairdryer, iron/ironing board, we felt like we had everything we needed. I know they offer microwaves on request. A few minor complaints/observations: -The food selection at the pool and two restaurants is not that extensive. For how much they are charging it would be nice for them to have a bit more variety. -There was one day where we requested room service at a specific time (later in the day around 3-4pm) and they came anyway at around 9:00. I don't know what the point of taking requests for room service time is if they don't honor it. -The main pool area serves alcohol, I know that this is popular, but there are no drinks available at the "adult" pool but there are at the family friendly pool. Didn't really make sense to me. I highly recommend staying here, the scenery is beautiful, there are a lot of cool things to do and experience!

So much miscommunication! 1) Stay in the tower for access to both pools NOT TRUE! Try explaining that to a 3 and 6 year old, that they can't slide 2) Microwave in room NOT TRUE 3) Wrist bands good until checkout NOT TRUE and resulted in children, all ready to swim being turned away because the wrist band was the wrong color(despite being assured otherwise) and the person who checked family in not available to get new wrist bands for family. Children had to go back to room until person who checked in was available. 4)No regulations regarding blow up toys in pool NOT TRUE Even blow up rings not allowed The list goes on. Dirty carpet in room. Militant types checking wristbands while a customer had to drag a palm frond out of the pool. They will not remove lunch plates at the pool, so when wind blows it goes everywhere. This was a very stressful stay from start to finish. The beds are hard and they are broken down on the edge. I had to make a call to the desk when I was in town and had 19 calls in front of me.

r visit was not comfortable. June in Tucson and the A/C was not functioning in our room. We arrived at check in at 3:45, went to our room and unpacked and got it set up. We then went into town for our scheduled engagements. We arrived back to the hotel at approximately 11:30 PM and the room did feel hot, so we lowered the thermostat. We had a few glasses of wine (and an Uber) prior to returning to the hotel, so we were not too concerned about the heat and we did not realize that the A/C was completely broke! We only thought that the thermostat needed to be lowered. We woke up in a POOL of sweat at 3AM. At 5 AM I chose to call the front desk, which I never do. I let the clerk know of our concern and she apologized that the engineers are not on site until 6:30AM, but she would have security bring us a box fan. The box fan was broken. You would think that they would take the time to check this before delivering. Luckily my husband had his 5 in 1 pocket knife that had a tool where he could move the brass stick, which the knob should have been on. The box fan allowed our room to cool down to 86 degrees...still miserable! And only one box fan? Come on, all AZ natives know that the fan only works if you are right in front of it! We left the resort early, so that we could get home and take a nap, as we were sleep deprived. We did not enjoy breakfast, or the pools. Not only was our stay awful, but our whole next day was wasted trying to catch up on our lost sleep. At checkout, the clerk asked how our stay was and I let her know that it was awful. She just apologized and stated that she hopes we have a better stay in the future. I really have no intention to ever stay here after this experience. I called to speak with the manager after getting home and getting some sleep. The front desk supervisor took my concerns and sated that he would speak to a manger and get back to me. I never have heard back from them. Extremely disappointed in our stay. We expected more from a JW Marriot and the La Paloma.

Hard pass

Room was pretty updated/clean/comfy bed. The GOLD restaurant was really good and service was great. Bar service was also good. Sangria was gross. We walked all the way to our room only to find out the keys we were just given at check-in didn't work. We stood in 100+ heat waiting forever for security to show up with new keys and when she did, only 1 of the 2 keys worked so we had to wait yet again for her to come back a second time. We visited 2 of the 3 pools and they both looked like they belonged in a ghetto apartment complex - they were dirty, the lounge chairs were sun faded with threadbare fabric and rips and there were ants everywhere. The grounds are beat up and need to be tended to badly. The fountains have algae inches thick. This was a staycation and we had planned on hanging out at the pool and relaxing but needless to say, we ended up just watching TV in our room. What a waste.

Rough start. Perfect weekend.

Reviewed By josh259

Stayed at the Omni Tucson National resort for a guys golf trip this weekend. Got a call from the hotel manager the day before check in that they were in an over-sold situation for the first night of our trip, and unfortunately we’d need to stay at a sister property for that night. While we were all very disappointed, Robert did everything in his power to make the rest of our time at the hotel very enjoyable. They even went the extra mile and managed the baggage transfer between the hotels for us while we were golfing. The hotel property was awesome for what we were needing. We played both of the courses which were in excellent shape, and decently challenging. Having them on property made everything much simpler. Rooms were large, and the pool was a great hangout spot after a day on the course. All of us had a great time, and agreed that despite the rough start, we would all stay at the Omni again.
