Right at the beach and by the river mouth, under the shade of coconut trees and surrounded by lush tropical garden and mangroves, Junto al Río offers the perfect choice to enjoy Sayulita's beauty and tranquility. Its location is ideal, only a short walk on the beach to the village's center where you'll find shops, cafés and restaurants and right in front of the local surf spot with both right and left breaks. Relax and sunbathe on the beach a few steps from your suite's door or enjoy the ocean breeze on a hammock in a natural terrace and sleep with the whispering of the waves...Enjoy one of Mexico's most beautiful and unspoiled beach villages on the Pacific at Junto al Río where the bungalows are a quiet and inexpensive beachfront accommodation to suit different Sayulita vacation budgets. The accommodations are all built in a traditional style, made with regional materials like riverbed rocks, sand, palm tree wood, bamboo and "palapa" (palm roof) and decorated with colorful original paintings. All bungalows and suites have an ocean view and are right on the beach where the ocean breeze keeps them fresh year-round.
My husband and I took a weekend trip to Sayulita and stayed at Junto al Rio in one of the beachfront palapas, Mangle 2, which I would recommend. It is nothing fancy, but nicely appointed and very relaxing with the sound of the ocean waves crashing throughout the night. The facilities on site were great, too. La Isla bar offers delicious food and drinks served by very cool waiters and bartenders. We also had breakfast at the little restaurant staffed by the hippest Mexican kids in town, and in addition to amazing huevos rancheros, we got to play with puppies and a bunny. We recommend Junto al Rio for the warm service, the accommodations, and the location - easy walk to the center of town, but far enough away from the noise.

This colorful quainted hotel with 2 two bedroom units, 3 one bedroom units and the penthouse is located in the heart of Sayulita, near the restaurants and grocery stores and of course one short block from the beach. Decorated walls with art from a local painter and fully furnished with native pieces, all the units are an oasis in the middle of town. All the bungalows have an a/c, full kitchen and sitting area in an open balcony. The bungalows run mostly on solar energy and we also provide filtered water on every unit so you can drink from the faucet. Our cleanliness is of a scandinavian standard and our staff will be very happy to take care of you.
The vibe of Aurinko is colorful, clean and relaxed. Located right next to the center, you're not more than a few steps from anything. I spent a lot of time just watching the iguanas sun themselves in a tree across the way from our kitchen / living room balcony.

Paraiso Yoga is a small economical secret to know about, with only 3 bungalows. These are very simple and sparsely appointed with quality furnishings. Designed with the "Zen surfer" in mind, are ideally located on a quiet street 1 block north of the river dividing Sayulita, so there is only a 3 minute short walk to center of town and a short hop of 2 blocks to the beach.
I can't recommend Paraiso enough! Such a gem place, I felt super welcome and loved the yoga shala. I booked the package of 5 unlimited yoga days and 3 surf lessons, so happy I did that! I took yoga classes with Adrián and Paul and loved the practice with them, both really kind and generous souls welcoming you warmly in Sayulita and at Paraiso. I was so impressed and happy about my surf lessons with local surfer Luís Chimio. He is the most friendly, encouraging and professional teacher and got me surfing from lesson 1! He knows Sayulita so well and was so generous of his time and knowledge. Thank you! If you're in Sayulita for the yoga and surf like I was, don't hesitate to book Paraiso surf and yoga package it really made my stay in Sayulita♡

The Tailwind Jungle Lodge is an eco-lodge, yoga retreat center and adventure travel company just north of San Pancho, Mexico. Our motto here is "enjoy life"! The blissful jungle, beach and ocean here make it easy to do just that. Our creative bungalows, casitas and palapas are perched amidst majestically swaying palm trees, giving the lodge a Swiss Family Robinson/treehouse type feel. Tailwind is perfect for the adventurous travelers who are looking for an active vacation (hiking, surfing, SUP, sea kayaking, yoga). Of course, we also understand if you'd prefer to simply lounge in the hammock! The jungle experience awaits!
I stayed at Tailwind for nine days while on a yoga retreat. I happily fell asleep each night under a mosquito net to the sounds of the jungle and the crashing waves. Our large group ate VERY well - Alex and his team were creative and every meal was something to look forward to! We could walk into San Pancho to explore, swim, and relax and then easily take a taxi back to the resort. Hikes to the beach were beautiful with a great reward at the end! Tamara and her jungle family (now baby Zephyr!) are lovely. They are terrific caring hosts! Tamara's parents, El Tigre and Jungle Jane took us sea kayaking - wow! They also hosted a marguerita party at their home with a beautiful sunset view. I'm already planning to round up more friends and family members to come back next year! All ages would enjoy this resort - there is something for everyone.

Tucked like a hidden gem behind the owner's home, at just two blocks from the beach and two from the Town Square, Casitas Tortugas exudes peace and tranquility. Upon arrival you will be greeted by family members who will guide you along a meandering path to your casita, your home away from home. BEAUTY:From the furnishings in each of the tastefully decorated casitas, to the owner's desire to impart his dream to you, Casitas Tortugas invites you to reacquaint yourself with beauty. NATURE:Nestled beside a jungle canopy with windows overlooking a fresh water pond, Casitas Tortugas tempts you to experience nature first hand. Iguanas, exotic birds, various species of fish and turtles, nature is just outside your door. Convenient and safe location, just two blocks from the beach and two from the town square.
I would not recommend staying here. We, unfortunately, had to stay here with our family and had an absolutely terrible experience that I wish upon no one, here is your warning to stay elsewhere. The rooms were dirty, bedding stained, and the manager was extremely hurtful and unaccommodating.

11-14/5 This review is long and a bit mixed up as written over four days as things happened, sometimes in real time; sorry about that! Here I am by the pool at 20:37 typing away my review of this wonderful place. So far no mosquitoes have plagued me as they did on the way back from the beach (especially at the Bananex ATM by the Naval Centre. I checked this place yesterday as an alternative to where we three British middle aged guys were staying at the quaint, cheap but tatty El Bucanero. This place was twice the price but seemed ten times the quality. I put down a 400 deposit with Maria to secure the large ground floor twin bed room with kitchenette for the next night and the upstairs much larger room with a breeze (as she promised) on the second night (for 100 more at 1000, maybe a third if all went well). We three checked in at 13:30, settled into the big room (‘Roxanna’), brewed a filter coffee each and took to the inviting pool which was empty (compared to Bucanero’s with kids playing and screaming away- no problem if you are families, it is just that we are not). After an hour of taking advantage of the omnipresent and reliable (a bit like God....not) wifi we left off to the main beach to eat, swim and watch sunset then we race back to the Casa to avoid the sand flies and mosquitoes to recover and relax. So here I am! The distant thud of the two competing bars/clubs on the square is still audible from the pool (still here at 21:30), mixed with other local renderings of music. Before 9pm I managed a calming swim in the pool in the dark. As I had eaten lots of garlic on purpose I was not eaten alive! Overall I spent quite a few dark late evenings on my iPad by the pool catching up with TA reviews, Social Media and the News. Unfortunately on my second evening out a careless family had left a used disposable nappy on the table! The bin was only 4m away! I can understand ‘Adult Only’ hotels even better now!! This was not management issue but the woman who chlorinated the pool while I was there did not seem to notice it! Now I am writing this from the same pool at 01:44 having eaten Garlic Fried Fish on the beach for lunch and partaken in the late bar Luka(s)’ merriment on the square (which I have despised in a previous post). I am now back at the Bungalows after 5 bottles of the finest Coronas available to humanity! Unscathed by insects (so far) and about to chastise myself for critiquing my previous posts. I can hear the noise from the new Luka Bar but having just been there, met The Boss and liaised with the chief cashier I can say it is all very Mexican, albeit Mexican Pop Videos playing one after another and pleasing the youth, being an oldie amongst them I could see they loved it all obviously. This is their future, to hell with ours (I’ll be dead). But if they follow us oldies in polluting this planet then they will have not learnt the lesson. Hedonism is everywhere, who can blame them as life is short. We slept well overnight, although the beds were a bit lumpy. In the morning at 9am the local families stirred, kids wailing and portable ghetto blasters churning out Mexican songs (a bit like last night). We now realise what ‘Adults Only’ hotels are about as the pool seems full of kids too. The apartments are unnumbered but named, our first one Roxanna was on the ground floor, large size second away from the pool. It is a bit dark if the four windows’ curtains are drawn as there are no not two working lights one above the mirror and other in the kitchen. If the curtains are open one feels a bit exposed as people come down the stairs or pass by. The bedside lamp between the two double beds does not work because he socket is broken. No big deal as there are plenty of sockets for devices and a small table can be used as a desk. The large room has big walk in cupboards with lots of hangers (hurrah!) and shelving space. A large LED TV (but no English channels and mostly fuzzy analogue). The kitchen had a medium size fridge freezer, gas cooker with hob, microwave, filter coffee maker, blender, toaster, lots of knives, forks, plates, glass coffee mugs, plastic cups for the pool (not glass allowed), saucepans, frying pans and utensils. A clean sink was supplied with washing up liquid, a tea towel and nylon sponge. The freezer had an ice cube tray. An empty 10l water dispenser was under a tall small table and a bin under the sink. All very impressive! The showerroom was it and bright lit by an overhead lamp (switch by door) and a separate lamp over the mirror over the sink (switch to the side with electric socket). The sink had no plug and in the morning there was hot water in the shower. The sink tap had high enough pressure to jet out my razor. There was a small fresh hand towel and soap provided by the sink and soap ledge in the shower. The toilet has a bin by it and instructions to use it for paper as antique plumbing does not allow solids. On Sunday morning we expected to change rooms to the first floor (realising it was away from the families so would be better). On approaching María (who cannot speak English, and my Spanish is very limited) I gestured to the room she had offered me two days before but she said it was reserved and we could have a ground floor room instead. I had to liaise with my friend who was not happy. He was cooking eggs mole at the time for brick and was not in a mood to discuss. After two more liaisons with Maria where she offered us a complete apartment (separate rooms and beds) on the first floor but with no balcony in the far corner for the same 1000. My friend was still not pleased. We ate brunch and he saw María himself and secured her original ground floor offer of ‘Café’ with the terrace by the fountain and road. He was still not 100% happy as our original reservation was ignored. If I had decided on my reccie to book three nights instead of two Maria may have reserved that upper apartment for two nights instead of bumping us down. Our mistake? As we did not know our movements (I was FB messaging my friends from the reception with Maria back to them in El Bucanero but we three were all indecisive (we were also not aware just how noisy both hotels could be with families!). At 1pm on the Sunday (after lots of families had left so peace ensued) we changed rooms to ‘Cafe’ on the ground floor by the road. We spent a couple of hours by the quiet pool catching up on the net and SM using the reliable wifi dedicated to the pool. The daytime biting flies were the only problem. The hotel actually sells its own favourite insect deterrent. The new room Café (booked for two nights) was a big space with a corner kitchenette with all the facilities again including an extraction fan hood over the cooker, and the fridge freezer was bigger and recently defrosted. There was no microwave strangely and the coffee maker was smaller than in Roxanna. The room had lots of lights and sockets for devices. There is also an A/C unit, central fan (another in the patio) and 32 inch LED TV. The overall decor was traditional The room had its own patio looking onto the garden with the fountain. The door between had its own lock. The outer door had a lock too and large intact mosquito grills/netting kept the room and patio safe. My friend found the bookshelf better stocked with his kind of book than Roxanna’s offerings. A set of 2016-17 New Yorkers was left behind which proved interesting reading. Our first night in this room (second overall) was fine, although I had to turn off the noisy fridge freezer for our eight hours of sleep. The seals were good so it stayed cold overnight in the warm room (no fan or A/C turned on as we are ‘British’! I was woken up at 8am by a screaming child and later in the morning whilst writing a review for Hostal Enjoy Puerto Vallarta 19 I was deafened by a Mars Attack style shouting match between mother and her small son. This is a family hotel. Lots of pros and cons as a result. Just expect to wear ear plugs in the morning before the families leave for the beach! I am still writing this and other reviews at 11:30 to the soundtrack of Mars Attacks (but not as funny) and screaming kids in the pool, not relaxing at all. The WiFi signal did not penetrate well into the main room so my phone kept reverting to use up my 4G allowance. Whilst walking around the fountain in particular be aware of large and heavy leaves falling off the palm trees! I nearly got speared by one twice! Two of us had a last night-time walk round the main square on Monday between 23:30 and midnight and found it the quietest we had experienced. At one point we were the only people on the square. No bars or clubs were open, only the Oxxo in the corner. On our return we passed the ‘Delux’ bar by our previous accommodation Al Bucanero. It had a few people in it and was a little noisy. Just as well we moved, although we met one of the owners sitting on his porch a few metres later and he asked us why we were not staying there anymore....rather embarrassing..... As I had had a bit too much tequila on our last night I overslept somewhat until 10:40 and after a hasty breakfast packed as Maria and her crew came in and tidied up around us. We always try to leave a place clean anyway (if hotels did provide brooms or dustpans and brushes we would keep up daily) so there was not much to them to do but the crew set about cleaning everything!! Deep clean or decontamination? At some point I mislaid the second set of keys and searched for them st reception after we had actually checked out properly. I eventually found them (searching again in the coach station) in my long trouser pockets from the night before (I blame the mosquitoes). Maria was grateful for getting the keys back and I bad farewell to her, the old girl at reception and the family on the corner shop. The stay here was overall potentially very pleasant had it not been for the noisy families (adults and kids alike). My friend wanted to leave and return to the half price (but 1/5 quality) El Bucanero but I am sure it would have been the same scenario but in tatty cheap conditions! Moral of the story is that if you want a pleasant kid free holiday then go to adult only accommodation if you can afford it. At least there is this option in Mexico. Pics of room with this review are of Roxanna room.

This is a wonderful relaxing and safe place to stay. I have now been to the bungalows twice over 2 years, and be assured we will be back. It is 2 blocks from the beach, it is in the main square for shopping and food, yet is still extremely quiet. It has a very homey yet authentic feel to it. I would suggest it to anyone.

We are located 10 meters from the beach.
The location is great, just few meters from the beach, rooms are decent, nothing special but ok. I looked around and found more convenient places at a better price. I guess that's the problem when one books online..

My husband and I had booked 10 nights at this property but were unable to go due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. They did not refund us our deposit. The owner was aggressive and threatening in her email communications with us. Definitely do not recommend this property.
