Namibia's largest coastal town is a huge draw for merrymakers and vacationers from all over the globe. This seaside resort showcases its German origins in its European-style colonial architecture, creating a jarring juxtaposition against the landscape of the Namib desert. Sandboard or motorbike the dunes, dine and imbibe in a picturesque restaurant on the waterfront, or just marvel at the unusual birds and plants that populate the region.

Explore Swakopmund with your private tour guide. Swakopmund is a German settlement on the coast of Namibia from the 1892's to just before the first world war. Situated 30km north of Walvis Bay in the mouth of the Swakop river, this town has really beautiful surroundings. Light-heartedly referred to as "Little Germany" by many travelers, the building style in the old part of town is distinctly German. Gaze at the majestic dune belt along the way to Swakopmund, with a short visit to Dune 7 where you can touch and see the sand up close. Once in Swakopmund, as you have a wide variety of things to do. You can choose between the Railway Station, the Steam Tractor "Martin Luther", the Swakopmund museum at the lighthouse, or the Krystall Gellerie, home of the largest quartz crystal. Please remember that if you want to buy any curios in Swakopmund that you will need a copy of your passport Last on your agenda is the coastal highway It's quite a memorable place, so bring your camera!

This loop through the desert shows off some stunningly beautiful desert landscapes between the Swakop River and the dreaded C14 national road. Very arid and isolated, it is worth seeing. From the dune belt at the coast the landscape changes rapidly to wide open spaces and gravel plains the views are spectacular. On these gravel plains the plant life has adapted quite uniquely to the desolate surroundings. You will see the Swakop River Canyon, also known as the Moon Landscape, on the way to the Welwitschia plains and Blutkoppen. Blutkoppe is well worth visiting for it's wind carved caves and sensual shapes. Ganab has a watering hole. The desert changes a lot with rainfall and the wildlife moves around, so no two tours are the same, some may be bone dry, and others have lush greenery and wildlife everywhere. Vogelvederberg boasts some impressive wind carved rock formations, and is a good lookout over the desert. All this nature is exquisitely beautiful.... bring your camera!

This is a true private adventure! You will have fun exploring the many features of the desert all the way up to the very remote Welwitschia Miriabilis plants. Stop for photographs at the lookout over the Moon Landscape and take in the many earthy colors and texture of this magical place. Take a break at the Goanikontes oasis, with excellent atmosphere, and wifi connectivity. With a bit of luck you might see some wild animals along the riverbed with ostrich being the most common. At the designated parking areas there is quite a bit of information on the Welwitschia, where you can stretch your legs a bit and walk among the Welwitschia in their natural environment. Following a quick drive through Swakopmund to view the historic buildings and jetty the next item on the adventure is the coastal road between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. The Dune belt on the left hand, and the ocean on the right make for some spectacular views. Bring your camera.

Local Experirnce in Swakopmund ,Mondesa was the exiled neighborhood where blacks were sidelined during apartheid , while whites and rich were concentrated in the city center. Although the system of racial segregation was abolished in 1991, it is still possible today to observe the traces of this dark part of history. You will stroll through the streets of Mondesa, discovering its culture. You will see the kindness of the people, who will not hesitate to welcome you and invite you to taste one of their craft beers or some of their typical dishes , such as mopane worms (grilled caterpillars). During the visit, you can enjoy other traditional dishes, so that your cultural immersion is complete. In addition, you can interact with locals and immerse yourself in the heart of African culture and history. You will have the opportunity to learn a few words in khoe-khoe , the local language, and understand the meaning of the term " buntu" . Do you know why he is so important today in Africa?

We were tired from extensive touring (three travelers) and thought of skipping this township visit. Are we glad we decided to join Nande Junia's 1/2 day explorer tour! Our guide was kind, informative, and had planned an interesting visit to one of Namibia's townships. "Township" being the local explanation in Africa for a town/village of minimally economic development. For the poorest citizens, basically with outdoor plumbing, very small living area, and few services. Here in Namibia, in this community, we discovered that Swakopmund was well maintained and harbored many interesting sights. Entrepreneurship all around, from the ladies who taught "clicking" to tourists to the a capella choir, singing for us during our homemade lunch in another house, we spent 4 hours being captivated by this slice of Africa. I recommend heartily this tour group. First-class all the way.

Awesome doesn't do it justice. I had a fabulous, exhilirating experience. The dunes and the sea are spectacularly beautiful and Uwe is a real treat. I was incredibly lucky that I went during the pandemic when there was almost no one else around, but I can imagine even in normal times the tour would be the best. The views were incredible, and driving up and down the dunes was better than any rollercoaster. Plus Uwe's explanations and stories were icing on the cake. Just Do It!!

An early start and a drive to the base of Pelican Point Kayaking. We met our guide and the rest of our group there. The drive to beach includes a drive through the salt pans and our guide gave us some background on the area. The pans are beautiful and were one of the reasons we chose Namibia as a holiday destination. We brought waterproof jackets with us as advised and you’ll be glad you did as you will get a little wet out there. You’ll get changed into some waterproofs and be given a life vest. I’m not the happiest of people on or in the water but the whole setup is designed to make you feel relaxed and excited about getting onto the water. When you are out there the seals are super friendly and inquisitive. They’ll come over for a closer look and a bite of your paddle! You’ll spend an hour or so on the water and then come back to land for a bite to eat. Seeing all the seals together on the beach is pretty cool and looks very much like the documentaries you might watch. On the drive back to the base loads of animals were pointed out to us and we drove a little off road to get a closer look at some of them. Fantastic first morning of our trip and I’m so glad that we did it!
