White Square - Fine Books & Art

NOTE: the bookstore will be closed for vacation August 4-10, 2018. White Square - Fine Books & Art is an old-style bookshop nestled in an eclectic area of authors, artists, galleries, restaurants, and colleges in the Pioneer Valley, on the western edge of Mt. Tom. We serve as a literary resource for our community and as a destination point for collectors. We sell new, used, and rare books and art and host events and conversations with both local and national authors and artists. We're thrilled to bring the ambience of a literary salon to Easthampton's Cottage Street Cultural District and to live and work in this wonderful city!

Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden

Bring the kids to this outdoor sculpture garden where the Cat in the Hat, the Grinch, and other beloved Dr. Seuss characters are immortalized in bronze, life-size statues all designed by Geisel's step-daughter, sculptor Lark Grey Dimond-Cates.

The Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden has been a must-stop destination on every single one of our Roadtrips through Massachusetts for years. We never miss an opportunity to visit, and take photos with some of our favourite characters from the beloved books of Dr Seuss. This a beautiful place to spend some time. the sculptures are perfectly created in the exact likeness you would expect. You will find Thing 1 & 2, Horton, Thidwick the big-hearted moose, Sam I Am, The grinch & his dog max, The Cat in the hat, and Maizy la bird. You can pose for photos with your favourite characters, but be warned - on a hot day, the sculptures get hot as well, and can burn bear skin. We learned this the hard way. The Museum has taken to cordoning off the sculptures with warnings about this. Since June 2017, there is even more of a reason to visit the sculpture garden, as now there is the Amazing World of Dr Seuss museum - which is an absolute must for everyone to see. If you are on a road trip through MA, make sure you stop in the Springfield and visit the Dr Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, and Dr Seuss Museum.

Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and Museum

The Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library & Museum was established in 1920, when Massachusetts Governor and Vice-President Elect Calvin Coolidge began giving documents and memorabilia to Forbes Library, the public library for the city of Northampton, Massachusetts. During his Presidency and upon leaving the White House, additional materials were added including the Howard Chandler Christy portraits of Calvin Coolidge and his wife, Grace, and the infamous electric exercise horse. In 1956, acting upon the request of Grace Coolidge and Trustees of Forbes Library, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts granted funds to establish a “Calvin Coolidge Memorial Room” as a separate entity within the Forbes Library. Today, the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library & Museum at Forbes Library is the largest existing source of primary material on Calvin Coolidge and the only public library in the United States to hold a presidential collection.

Calvin Coolidge's professional career was in Northampton and it is just perfect and fitting that modest Cal has his library inside a municipal library. Forbes library in downtown Northampton has a 2nd floor room[s] filled w treasures from his career. You have to go and see this.

Dinosaur Footprints

Imagine small herds of dinosaurs on the shore of a shallow tropical lake as you enjoy a real, up-close look at their fossilized prints, left in sandstone to spur our wonder.

This was really a surreal experience! I am amazed at the clarity of these footprints after 195+million years! I definitely recommend this stop.
