There are many similar leaning towers in the world. But this one started up leaninig nearly from the foundation. The tower was built up in the beginnning of 17 century. But the landlord ordered to finish it-he was extremly reach and persistent. Nearly the whole industrial region of Mid Ural with all mines, iron and copper foundries and plants belonged to him. Including this place and the whole tiwn of Nevyansk. In order to continue the constructiin of the tower there was necessary to find out the original engineering solutions for to prevent the tower of collapsing. And these solutions and invetions were found by the ordinary craftmen. We do not know there names. They were just serfs/slaves. But the most known building fastening unit: bolt-washer-nut was for the first time in world used in the tower. The nut and the bolt were with square-like head and not with hexagon head as all modern bolts&nuts. But nontheless.... And all of them still at their place. All of them regularly being checked with modern dyagnostic devices and methods. Safery first! But nothing wrong with the medieval bolts-washers-nuts! The first ever prototype of the reinforced iron or to be exact iron-cast iron was also invented and used there. These bars still hold together the whole tower. And againg... safety first... the laboratories regularly check the bars... the labs confess that they’ll serve for another couple of hundred centuries! Facinating constructiin!!!

After having been to the Europe-Asia border marker and the holy site of Ganina Yama I came to the spectacular rock formation called 'Devil's Town' in Russian. From Ganina Yama it took me 50 minutes by taxi on a dirt road with plenty of water filled potholes to get here, something most taxi drivers in other countries wouldn't have accepted to drive. Once at the parking it is a quite steep hike of about 10 minutes - with no signposts - through a forest full of granite boulders to the 347m asl high ridge with the unusual rocky outcrop. Since in August the area was full of mushrooms I saw quite a few people collecting them. The about 100m long and 20m high rock wall is impressive. It is a phenomenon, which can be found also in other places such as at the 'Greifensteine' in Saxony's Ore Mountains. Geologically it is explained as liquid magma that penetrated into a crack of already existing rocks and solidified to granite, forming a dike. Erosion weathered away the surrounding rocks, leaving the hard volcanic center. Later chemical alterations along intersecting joints formed the 'woolsack' or spheroidal weathering of the granite, which we can very well see here. The place is popular with rock climbers, of which one might encounter some, when visiting. A negative point are the many graffitis and signatures on this very special rock formation.
