The centre of Salta’s tree-lined main square is a shaded oasis of greenery, surrounded by cafes, restaurants and bars, the beautiful Cathedral, and the 18th Century colonial Town Hall. Shops, museums, and other attractions are nearby. An excellent point from which to explore.

Guemes was a major figure in the war for Argentine independence, in particular with organizing gauchos in the resistance to Spanish rule. The setting of the statue has a wow factor. In the eastern part of the city, you pass some very nice houses on Paseo Guemes. Set up on a hill for maximum effect is the general on his horse. Photographs are probably better somewhat from a distance to get in the entire setting.
