360 degree views from this historic pa site, mostly across the harbours and out to the ocean. Well worth the 10 minute walk from the carpark, Terraces evident, easy to imagine how the pa might have been.

Lots of lovely things to look at with a museum and the people running it were very nice...worth seeing.

We visited this wahi tapu site recently on a trip up north. It's a beautiful trip on a gravel road, easy road to handle if you just drive slowly - with views for miles as the road climbs, and there were a lot of hunting hawks on the day we visited. It's easy to get to both sites of battle - the British camp and Ruapekapeka Pa, both well kept and the history of the area explained and displayed graphically and well. The sites are clean and well maintained, and it's very easy, as you walk around, to see how clever the design of Ruapekapeka Pa was. If you are interested in Aotearoa/NZ's history, this is absolutely worth a visit.

This was a beautiful walk. Easy going track. Unfortunately not accessible for wheelchairs. Steps up to the lookout and walking tracks. Three different walking tracks to choose from. Beautiful views of the whole of Whangarei.

Opens Saturday 1st of December 10:00 am till 3:00 pm. On the shores of the Hokianga Harbour, Mangungu Mission is the start or end of the Town Coast Cycle Trail. A tour of the mission house is by arrangement, but the grounds are open to the public any time and provide sweeping views of Hokianga Harbour. Mangungu was established as a Wesleyan mission station in 1828 and was the site of the largest Treaty of Waitangi signing. Closed for winter from the 4th June 2019.

a lovely way to finish our far north trip - an ice cream and walk along this footbridge and a lovely reminder of times gone by - imagine our teachers now ferrying the children across the water to get to school - the paperwork and OSH headaches - bit like number 8 wire - the resiliency of our times past are a credit ..... so glad we visited - beautiful walk, will explore this area some more another time -

I was skeptical about this tourist attraction. the photos make it look like.. a funky toilet, but still.. a toilet. However, what a pleasant surprise! Its more than a cool toilet, this is functional art. the new museum is very cool as well, gives more context about the art and the artist, with photos of his incredible buildings and gorgeous posters he made on the theme of conservation. absolutely worth a stop!
