10 Points of Interest & Landmarks in Newcastle upon Tyne That You Shouldn't Miss

June 26, 2021 Randal Brittian

Once a shipbuilding city, Newcastle's flashier claim to fame is nightlife. Throw in a heap of premium restaurants serving foods from all over the world and it's no wonder young partiers choose to blow their hard-earned (or not-so-hard-earned) cash in Newcastle. While these amenities are certainly a draw for the hipsters and culture-seekers, it's the locals that make Newcastle a truly special place to visit. "Geordies," as they are often called, embody the pride, industriousness and resilient spirit of their city.

Grey Street

Reviewed By NicolaD914 - Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom

There is some fantastic Georgian architecture on Grey Street looking from Grey’s monument down towards the Quayside or the castle. Some of the buildings are really beautiful housing the Theatre Royal, shops banks and offices. There are lots of places to stop and enjoy something to eat or drink and enjoy the view, and lots of shops. Don’t miss the historical and equally stunning Central Arcade.

The Newcastle Town Wall

It was fascinating to be able to snap shots of the Old town Walls at such close quarters. Even older than the medieval town ramparts are the Roman walls still visible in inner-city suburbs like Wallsend!

Blacksmith's Needle Sculpture

Reviewed By NicolaD914 - Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom

The Blacksmith’s needle sculpture was built in 1997 and each of the 6 layers is filled with hand forged iron and steel objects that apparently are meant to represent ‘the senses.’ It is situated on the Newcastle quayside near to the Millennium Bridge. I thought it was a beautiful sculpture and was quite fascinated by all the intricate objects that made it up.

Fenwick Newcastle's Christmas Window

Reviewed By Bubblefish77

It's years since I last saw Fenwick's window at Christmas, and I really liked this one. My two little ones like Willy Wonka so were excited, we must have seen it 5 times. There were quite big queues at one point but at least everyone gave people time to take photos etc. The scenes covered the main story and were bright and interesting.
