10 Photography Tours in Chefchaouen That You Shouldn't Miss

August 8, 2021 Russell Mellin

This stunning Moroccan city in the Rif Mountains was originally built as a fortress in the 15th century. The mountains towering over Chefchaouen resemble a pair of goat’s horns, and, perhaps not coincidentally, the creamy native goat cheese is one of the most popular regional treats. Architecture enthusiasts will marvel at the Jewish-inspired blue-tinted buildings, octagonal mosque and Spanish ruins.

The tour was booked seamlessly with Anass, who immediately emailed the confirmation and gave us the contact details of the driver. Karim picked us up on time and was a very safe driver. He made a stop for a panoramic view near Tetouan & took pictures of us too. At Chefchaouen, Omar showed us all the interesting spots and his knowledge of the history of the place is excellent! He was very sincere and made sure we had a very enjoyable time, patiently waiting till we get all the pictures we wanted! I loved every minute of it! I highly recommend booking this trip!! I would definitely come to book with them again next time we make a trip, as Omar mentioned more interesting places in Chefchaouen to see!

We took this service on two occasions, both on a 4 day private trip and itinerary. We were four travelers setting out from Rabat to Merzouga on the first trip and to Imlil and Ouarzazate on a second trip also from Rabat. Imad was the driver on both trips. We were given a van of 9 in a very good condition and very clean. We liked the private trips given the pandemic and the prices were very reasonable. Imad came on time, wore his mask and kept the van immaculately clean and reminded us to wear seat belts and our masks. He knows the route and made us feel safe. On the first trip, Imad picked us up from Rabat at 9pm and made a 9 hour journey by night to Errachidia and Erfoud where we spent a night at a luxurious resort, Xaluca, and visited the area with its famous valley of Ziz, an oasis surrounded by palm trees, and saw a few natural water sources. The next day, we headed to Merzouga to stay at Berber Camp Merzouga for the night. Imad dropped us off at a meeting point where the hotel owner met with us in his beautiful 4X4 and took us to our beautiful tents and camel ride. While the night trip was suitable for us as it allowed us to take advantage of a full day trip, I could not help but think of the driver as he drove from Marrakesh to Rabat to pick us up and then drive back to the south. I would recommend that the company at least let the drivers come earlier in the day, rest before another long drive. The other recommendation I would make is about the credit card given to the drivers for the gas. They only seemed to work for one company and even so not all stations accepted the card making us go to several gas stops and drive over an hour once to get gas. Highly recommend Imad and the company.

Discover Morocco's stunning blue city Chefchaouen is situated in the heart of Morocco's Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen (sometimes called Chaouen) is relaxed, with very affordable accommodations, and above all, quite stunning to look at. The streets and most of the buildings in the old part of town (Medina) are painted a most brilliant sky blue. Chefchaouen offers its visitors the charm of a city which has preserved Arab Andalusian arts and traditions. We can see a beautiful landscape on the road: Jbala Mountains, Berber villages, locals small markets situated in the road, Dams… We can have a coffee break in the middle of the road. In Chefchaouen, the streets and most of the buildings in the old part of town (medina) are painted a most brilliant sky blue. During the walking tour, we have the impression that nothing has changed in Chefchaouen for centuries. It's like a live museum or like seeing a documentary about Moroccan history.

We enjoyed an absolutely amazing tour of Fes with Achraf and another guide he had arranged for to provide us with the full experience Fes had to offer. Achraf takes enormous pride in ensuring his clients have the full authentic experience each of these areas in Morocco has to offer. We enjoyed many aspect of the area but the one that really stood out for us was visiting the ceramic pottery and mosaic artwork factory to meet the people that follow time honoured traditions to design and create these still hand crafted works of art.

Chefchaouen or Chaouen, as it is often called by Moroccans, is a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Tangier and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta. The name refers to the shape of the mountain tops above the town that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. "Chef Chaouen" derives from the Berber word for horns, Ichawen. There are approximately two hundred hotels catering to the summer influx of tourists. One distinction possessed by Chefchaouen is its blue-rinsed houses and buildings.

A great way to visit Chefchaouen on a daytrip without the fuss. Communication was easy with the company beforehand. They arranged a pick up from my hotel even though I had only booked the night before. We had a brief, 10 minute stop halfway through the journey at a rest area each way. Note that the trip doesn’t include a guided tour of Chefchaouen, but I preferred that because it allowed me to explore the town on my own.

On a recent trip to Morocco we were given an opportunity to have an extra day of leisure in Casablanca. With some research we soon realized that we would be seeing all of the top attractions in Casablanca during our tour so we started to research the day trips available from Casablanca. This day trip to Tangier drew our attention because it was one place not included in our tour but we were unsure of the tour because it had no reviews. We decided to take a chance and we were very pleased. In fact, this day trip was one of the highlights of our trip. We were met at the Tangier train station by our local guide Bilal who was excellent. Bilal and the driver took the three of us on a fantastic tour of Tangier which included the Tangier Medina, the Hercules Cave and much more. We had a delicious lunch in a small family run local restaurant which was not included but was reasonably priced. We even had a chance to take a ride along the beach on some dromedaries (one humped camels). The high speed (298 km/hr) train ride from Casablanca to Tangier which is include is two hours each way allowing a chance to see the landscaping along the coast of Morocco. Just make sure you receive your train tickets prior to your tour. All in all an excellent day. I would recommend.
