Nice spot without the crowds of other places. Whether it’s a surf, fish, swim or walk through the bush to the rock pools it’s a great place to spend half the day.

Nobbys Beach

Reviewed By JimGargan_54 - Newcastle, Australia

This beach is located within walking distance of the Newcastle CBD. Only South Newcastle Beach is closer. It has an easterly aspect. Conditions at the beach can vary greatly depending upon the tide and wind direction. There is ample parking and modern clean amenities that are ell maintained. The beach is patrolled by Council Life Guards through the week and Surf Life Saving Australia Life Savers on the weekend. These people are approachable and helpful. They are keen to share their local knowledge and ensure that you enjoy the beach in safety. Please respect their advice. The beach is suitable for long walks, surfing fishing and generally a first encounter for toddlers. The adjacent park enjoys the very best of the diminishing sunshine at the end of the day as well as views of the busiest harbour in the southern hemisphere. Dogs are not welcome on Nobby's Beach however they are welcome on the adjacent harbourside "Horse Shoe Beach". Google "Pasher Bulker" to see photos of an unplanned visit to Nobby's Beach by a merchant ship. Nearby are harbourside walks punctuated with licensed premises, cafe's and restaurants and even a museum. Dont leave Newcastle without spending a day here. Aim for Sunday afternoon to experience Newcastle's dynamic live music scene at nearby "Queens Wharf Hotel", "Honeysuckle Hotel" and "Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club". Newcastle was the nursery for "The Screaming Jets" and "Silver Chair". Nobby's Beach is walking distance from public transport to Sydney (bus & rail) and Newcastle Airport (bus).

My family and I visited Hunter Valley Zoo recently while in Cessnock. We visited on 15/8/2020, we found the experience awesome. Family friendly, lots of animals to see to keep the kiddies amused with BBQ facilities. Due to Covid 19, there were sign in procedures and the tour groups weren't operating, but we had a very pleasant experience seeing the Meerkats, Lions etc. I would highly recommend travellers to visit. Oh, and you can purchase animal food to feed the animals as well!!!! :) Admission was reasonably priced also

Oakvale Wildlife Park

The Ultimate Hands-On Experience. Set on 25 acres of open natural bushland, Oakvale Wildlife Park is 100% Australian owned and operated. At the park, you will find an endless menagerie of Australian native, domestic farm and exotic animals such as koalas, kangaroos, Tasmanian devils, goats, sheep, rabbits, alligators and ostriches. Plus many, many more. Established in November 1979 by Jeff and Elaine Sansom and later passed down to their son Kent Sansom in 1995. Oakvale Wildlife Park has remained a family-owned and operated business for more than 40 years. Since 1979 the farm has undergone countless changes. The most recent of which is our koala breeding and education centre ‘Koala Country’. However, one thing that remains the same is our commitment to providing an opportunity for our customers to learn about our native wildlife and how we can protect it. We strive to provide a fun, safe, educational, accessable and value for money experience for the whole family.

We visited Oakvale today, to say I was impressed would be an understatement. The staff were friendly, the animals were all well looked after, the grandchildren loved being able to feed the animals and the playground kept them entertained. Well done Oakvale we thoroughly enjoyed our day.
