Hokkaido (北海道, Hokkaidō, literally "Northern Sea Circuit") (Japanese: [hokkaꜜidoː] ( listen)), formerly known as Ezo, Yezo, Yeso, or Yesso, is the second largest island of Japan, and the largest and northernmost prefecture. The Tsugaru Strait separates Hokkaido from Honshu. The two islands are connected by the undersea railway Seikan Tunnel. The largest city on Hokkaido is its capital, Sapporo, which is also its only ordinance-designated city. About 43 km north of Hokkaido lies Sakhalin Island, Russia, whereas to its east and north-east are the disputed Kuril Islands.

Established in 2009, Niseko Winterlab is an English-speaking Ski and Snowboard School. We cover the entire Niseko United area, offering expert instruction in Annupuri and Hirafu, as well as backcountry guiding and tours of more remote powder spots. We pride ourselves on safety, personal focus and attention. Our mission is simple: to share the best of our sport and the area we know and love.
I used Winterlab for my recent ski trip to Japan. I am an experienced and hungry skier. I go to Japan often and speak Japanese but I had never been skiing in Japan. Winterlab made my first, of many to come, experience great. Anna was super-responsive, patient, and informative from the start, and throughout. Oli, my guide and instructor, was amazing. Day 1, got a sense of my skiing but appropriate to what I wanted to do, Days 2 and 3, we just had at it. Back country, in trees, powder and more. He was also a great companion for 3 days. I highly recommend and would/will repeat!
