We finish up with an owl encounter where you can handle & hold an owl. Prior to heading to Killarney for our Staycation I contacted Killarney Falconry & got a very prompt reply from Geoffrey detailing the experience & the prices... as I wanteed to be certain of doing this & you can never guarantee Irish weather we didn't book until we were on the ground, so to speak. The Weds forecast seemed the best so we booked and met John in a hotel carpark. We followed him to some woods down a very long lane & at last arrived at the destination - a wooded copse of trees. We then met Meeko the Harris hawk & each of us got multiple turns at having him fly to the gaunlet to feed. During the experience John entertained us with lots of info about falconry including the many terms that have migrated into the English language. And just when we though it was all over we got back to John's van and three fabulous owls were produced... each of us got a nuzzling owl on our gloved hand.. who knew these beautiful birds were so affectionate? It was the perfect end to one of the highlights of my existence....

Falconry Kerry

Falconry Kerry provides you with an opportunity to take part in “the sport of kings”. Here you can fly your own hawk in our meadows with the assistance of a trained falconer. Not to mention the beautiful owls you will meet. (they make the most original photobombers!) The hawk walk lasts about one hour and pre-booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

When we booked a family falconry experience, we knew that we'd be at the mercy of the weather (Ireland in November). The night before our appointment, the forecast was clear: lots of sustained rain. While this prevented us from having the full falconry experience, Liam introduced me, my wife, and our three kids to four of his amazing birds (Arran, Fred, Pooka, and Leah) who were beautiful and charming hosts. Liam told us about his journey to becoming a falconer and taught us about his birds. When our visit was over after well over a half an hour, he tried to not charge us since we were relegated to a shed. Obviously, we disagreed. The money we forced upon him was nothing in the context of this amazing experience.

Gleninchaquin Park

Gleninchaquin Park provides breath-taking landscapes and scenery in which it is a sheer delight to wander around over streams with log bridges, mountain paths with carved steps, through rock passages, along glens and lakes to higher altitude. Marvel at the views overlooking the lakes, delicate green meadows, a spectacular rock face waterfall, it’s force dependent on the amount of rain of the previous days. This magnificent valley makes for a great day out for the experienced walker – high level routes, to those more inclined to the gentler terrain. Ample parking facilities are provided close to the waterfall and the picnic areas. The walks around the waterfall, cascades, streams, woodlands and lakes are accessible for all ages. Admission fee applies, payable by cash only please. ADMISSION Adults: €6 Students / Seniors: €5 Children age 6-12 €4 Family: (2 adults 2 children) €15 Children under 6 years are free.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing Gleninchaquin park and it did not disappoint. Tucked away from the main road, this is a hidden gem that delivers a feast for the senses....the stunning green valleys, the roaring sound from the gushing waterfall and the nearby bleating from the free roaming herds of sheep and goats, the landscape is like nothing I've seen before. We were lucky enough to get to do a photoshoot here and the people managing the park could not have been more obliging. David has recently taken on his managerial role and the changes he has made to this park within a few short months are incredible. He is so welcoming and has such a passion for the place. We were also looked after by Eileen. Another amazing lady who embraced us from day one. David's family are also on site and are just as fantastic. We didn't want to leave. David mentioned how the park looks so different with every season and I can't wait to revisit in the winter months to see the change. He also is arranging picnic tables to be made from the parks own trees that fell during the storm, which will be a great addition for visiting families. I cannot rate this place enough. Go and see for yourself, this little slice of heaven!

Kerry Cliffs

Kerry Cliffs. Kerry Cliffs are widely accepted as the most spectacular cliffs in Kerry. The cliffs stand over 1000ft above the wild Atlantic and were formed in a desert environment 400 million years ago. Out to the west stand the amazing Skellig Rocks one of only three UNESCO world heritage sites in Ireland. Of course the Kerry Cliffs are the closest viewing point to the great rocks and also the famous Puffin Island. Allied with these facts as you stand at the summit of this mystical place and breath in the freshest of air, deep in to your lungs from the wild Atlantic and observe this natural wonder. You can relax and unwind and observe the majestic views from here which reach out for 30 miles of the surrounding areas. Many Twitchers come here to us to enjoy and observe the thriving colonies of cliff birds. Our cliffs here in Portmagee provide you the opportunity to enjoy this spectacular location in a safe and natural environment. We are located just off the Skellig ring in Portmagee and the cliffs are just a 10 minute walk from our entrance. Also for good measure we have a coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating where you can drink in this marvelous panorama. We can also arrange Boat Trips to Skellig Michael for you.

Located on the famous Slea Head Road. Visitors can view a local sheep-farmer skillfully working his sheepdogs in gathering and controlling sheep movement. This skill has been handed down from generation to generation as sheep have been kept here on Mount Eagle for hundreds of years. This is the only location in West Kerry offering such an attraction.
