Well-priced, all-inclusive beach resorts are the norm around Puerto Plata. Take a cable car to the peak of Mount Isabel de Torres, enjoy a concert at an amphitheater facing the Atlantic Ocean, visit the 16th-century San Felipe Fortress. Explore the nearby falls of Damajagua, snorkel off the beautiful island of Cayo Arena or play a round of golf in spectacular surroundings. Then discover the neighboring towns of Cabarete, a kite-boarding hub, and Sosúa, a picturesque beach spot.

This mountain, which looms high above Puerto Plata, has a cable car ride to the top.
Once you get thru the crazy-town drivers, the park is quiet and inviting. Easy ride up in the cable car, and the views are well worth the trip. Enjoyed the tropical highlands on top of the Mount.

We visited on August 9th 2019. Amazing experience. We only did 12 falls because it didn’t rain enough to do all 27. Our Iguana Mama tour guide Carlos was super friendly and kind and our driver was super safe considering people in DR drive like absolute maniacs. On our way to the tour, Carlos told us about the great history of DR and that was very interesting and funny. During the falls tour, we had another guide with the national park, his name was also Carlos...2, he was also very friendly and fun, explaining us all security measures and guided us through the falls. The falls were absolutely breath taking, after a 45 minutes intense hike up the mountain, we had to jump in or slide into ponds and swim through limestone rocks. The water was crystal clear blue turquoise and warm, simply amazing. Back home we bought ourselves Shandals (beach shoes, hiking sandals) that was the best shoes to wear ever. After our tour, we had an included DR buffet lunch that was really good and all you can drink Rum and coke LOL. Everything was perfect, can’t wait to go back!!!

Our tour began with a two hour bus ride through the mostly scenic countryside to Punta Rusio to board the catamaran to Cayo Arena ( Paradise Island). We were served snacks, rum punch and champagne. We toured the mangroves but unfortunately did not see any Manatees. we then stopped at a natural swimming hole in the ocean and played around for a bit and enjoyed the floating bar! Back onboard to go to Paradise Island which really is just the most awesome sandbar surrounded by coral reefs in the clearest turquise waters. Awesome snorkelling (gear provided) and more refreshments. Once back on the mainland we were treated to a delicious buffet lunch which included lobster tails!! The staff are fun and very attentive! The ONLY negative is that it wasn't long enough!

The place is really a hidden jewel!! We feel that it is very under rated!! First you take the Teleferico Cable Car up Mt. Isabel de Torres. It's a treat in itself! It costs around $10 per person round trip. You rise slowly up the mountain. You feel like a bird. It is so interesting to see the town and the beach change as you ascend the mountain. You get up there and there are so many photo stops it's unreal. You can follow the map or better yet hire someone to take you while they explain the history and vantage points! The place is very beautiful. There are many points of interest. They pose you when you first get there so it seems as though you are holding the statue of Christ in your hand. It is all just very different and pretty! A must see!

The most popular beach in Puerto Plata is located on the Dominican Republic's famous Amber Coast.
Well groomed golden sands lots of which you can walk comfortably for miles and miles, views in every direction. Gently sloping towards the ocean full of gently rolling waves. Buoys mark the safe areas to swim, and seperate the swimmers from the watercraft, saw lifeguard towers but no one occupying them ever so assume there arent any if travelling with small children. Hotels line the perimiter of the beach with various types of sun shelters and guards posted at each hotel so its very safe. You will be asked to buy something or looky no money mister liquidation by continuous waves of vendors whether seated or walking the beach. Say no firmly, but what they dont understand is you spend your week saying no repetitively to so many people selling the same maybe we would rather a bit of peace in Paradise. Yes I gave in eventually and bought something then I would say I bought from Fausto number 10 already it seemed to work better than no. I walked the soft warm sand ankle deep in the surf in both directions absolutely enjoyable. Compact sand for walking so it is possible for mobility challenged walkers to still enjoy. I think it is as beautiful as Punta Cana in its own way.
