My wife and I just happened to find this amazing hiking area. You travel down hwy 600 from hwy 160 in Pagosa Springs. Once on 600 (Piedra Road), you'll go about 15 miles until the road becomes hard dirt. Once on the dirt road, you will travel approx 5 miles to the trail head on the left. The trail head is on the river, so it's easy to find. The trail itself goes along the river with amazing views of cliffs and the river. If you're lucky there will be plenty of rock climbers to watch. I'm 67 years old and had two knee replacements within the past 6 months, so if I can walk the trail, just about anyone can. It's well marked, and easy to follow. The terrain can be a little tricky at times, but it's certainly not hard. Take plenty of water and a lunch to enjoy while sitting along the river. We stooped for our lunch at about 2.5 miles at a bridge that goes over the river. We turned around then and went back, but the trail continues on for several miles if you like. Once you finish your hike, take a drive on up the dirt road to Piedra River Falls and Williams Reservoir. Both are beautiful and a must see when in the area. If you have a kayak, take it up to enjoy lake kayaking on the reservoir.

Very nice experience at Yamaguchi Park...natural riverside park with sports fields, picnic areas, playground, skate park & kayak launch...great playground for kiddies, large grass playing field, convenient and clean restrooms...the San Juan River is directly adjacent to the park which makes for a super fun time of dipping your toes into the water and skipping some stones...the River Trail goes right along the edge of the park. Enjoy !!!

Scenic hiking trail leading to Piedra River Hot Springs.
The path was an easy hike. We had a couple of teenagers and a couple of 11 year olds and three dogs. Everyone had a great time.

This little-known ski resort boasts the highest snowfall totals in all of Colorado.
My 20 yr old Daughter and I took lessons from Kelly. She was so patient with us since we had never skied before. We had a blast on our 2 hr private lesson! Lots of snow the night before and today when we went. So amazingly beautiful! We met up with the rest of our group after lessons and skied together on the green runs. Wonderful day!

Arrived at Pagosa Springs around 8am this past weekend. Went to Treasure Falls first since it was a short distance from Pagosa Springs. Then, headed to the hot springs. When looking at hot springs from main road across river, the parking/main entrance is to the left. You can still walk to it from the right, but it is a longer walk. You check in at table outside of main building. Kind of a maze to find the entrance, but easy check-in once you do. Since we were early, we were able to get in. We went and got our things out of the car and by the time we were walking in, they were telling others they were already at capacity - so go pretty early. We brought our 3 kids 6, 8, and 10 and they loved it except for the smell of the minerals in the water bothered the 2 littles. The towels and robes are extras. Robes are not really needed in the summer, so we just rented 2 towels for the 5 of us ($4 each), but the guy ended up giving us 2 extras for free. Only about 1/4 of the people had robes on. The locker rooms are really nice but you cannot use the lockers. I did not see a family locker room - just men and women. We changed into swimsuits and headed to the largest pool/hot spring - it looks like a normal swimming pool with a hot tub attached. We found a few tables and chairs open to set our stuff on. We sat in the hot tub while the kids swam in the big pool. Both were warm but not hot. Lots of kids jumping off hot tub into pool and a few adults were complaining. Definitely not the spot to be if you do not have kids. This pool was really gross with white stuff floating throughout pool and hot tub. We only lasted a few minutes and then headed to the other hot springs. There were about 15 total to choose from - all different temps and labeled with the temps - but we found they were really off (all of them seemed about 98-102 degrees. We would stay in one for 5 min and move on to the next. Some were pretty crowded but people would come and go constantly. They did feel amazing and the water seemed clean in all of these. There is one pool by river that is amazing with rocks at the bottom and hot spring water bubbling out of rocks. If you have little kids under 5, I would just make sure they do not get close to where the water is coming into the pools, as it is extremely hot at these spots (prob 104-105) but the pools in general are fine for kids to swim in. The hot spots were my favorite, so I would just sit there so the kids would not go to that area. Kids tried swimming in river bank but water was really cold. The river was flowing pretty fast, so kids could not really go out into river to swim, but there are a few areas on the bank that they can. There is an adult only area which we did not go to, but it looked very peaceful if you go without kids. We did not go to every pool, but each only holds about 5-10 people max (except the large one, that is more of a pool) Overall, we loved the experience and the hot pools - very relaxing. We used the showers (soap is provided) before leaving. We were the only ones in the locker room while there and it is very large (about 10 showers) and is very clean. We met a few people while there that said this hot spring is one of the top 2 in Colorado to go to. There is food and drinks for purchase. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there. I am not sure I would spend more than one day or even spend the night, but we did enjoy a day trip to see it. I would recommend if it was your first time to see a hot spring. Would love to visit in the winter! The town is also nice, but very small.

With little experience between us, my husband and I had absolutely no concerns with the instruction and guidance from Berta. We did the 1.5 hour ride -- felt like the perfect length -- in late afternoon and saw quite a few clusters of deer. If you come through here in foliage season, have your camera ready before you get to the aspen copse. WOW do I wish I had taken photos. Great people, we will look them up in Tucson where the family apparently goes for the winter to run service through Saguaro National Park.
