Mitre Rock is the little sister to Mt Arapiles, but it also offers excellent climbing at various grades. It is also a great quiet place to hang a hammock or to watch sunset. You can walk to to the top of the rock on paths from either end.

Mt Arapiles is a spectacular feature, rising sharply from the Wimmera plains. It is one of Australia’s premier rock climbing areas, and a valuable nature conservation area, with 14% of the State’s flora species represented in the Mt Arapiles section alone. Numerous important cultural heritage sites are evidence of the significance of Dyurrite for Wotjobaluk Peoples and the use of the area for thousands of years.
Popular from rock climbing or bush walking. Also has a popular camp site. Or you can do lazy option that we do and drive to top of mountain. The first lookout (Bluff) is much easier with a easily accessible lookout. The original summit lookout at top involves climbing steep stairs so some people with mobility issues may struggle

This 35 km circuit ride between Mt Arapiles and Natimuk is well worth the effort. The path is mostly flat and well sign posted. The tracks are a mixture of very sandy tracks between farms, graded gravel bike tracks, some gravel roads and some very short sections of bitumen road. All of the roads were very quiet and I saw little or no car traffic. You will need a mountain bike for this, even in dry weather. I rode this track in March 2019 when it was very dry. After heavy rain, the Red Gum Swamp road and Black Swamp Road would become impassible. I rode the track in a clockwise direction, starting at Mt Arapilies and heading to Mitre Rock. I took 6 hours to ride the 35km. Don't hurry. There is a lot to stop and see.
