View modern sculpture in a stunning garden setting at this combination botanical garden and sculpture park, which features exotic plants, desert and Victorian gardens, wetlands, meadows, and sculptures by famous artists throughout.
Our son’s family lives in Grand Rapids, so we often visit Meier Gardens. It’s enjoyable whether we visit during Christmas to see decorated trees from other countries, summer to walk the garden paths and visit the children’s garden where the grandkids can run and climb, or during the butterfly exhibit in the spring. The special exhibits are interesting as well.

White Pine Trail is well maintained and well marked. It's the perfect place for a beautiful, scenic run. The trail passes through the city of Rockford, so you could stop for a look at the Dam or a bite to eat.

Like visiting a museum after hours, or getting backstage for theater, we had previously signed up online and now gathered at 6 p.m. as the darkness was deepening. A resident Great Horned Owl (deep-voiced male) was calling for a mate, so the leaders directed us silently and stealthily out to the starlit patio for a listen before the indoor part of the program began. We got to hear recordings of the three most frequent owls around (west) Michigan: the tiny Eastern Screech, the middle-weight Barred, and the big one, the Great Horned Owl (not counting the massive Snowy Owls that sometimes pass through). After some Q and A, half the group was led by S. for a close-up talk with the injured, sheltered owls of the Center. The other half was led by L. into the starry night woods on the wide trail to call for the owls. Later the group visited the outdoor residential spaces for the bobcat, for the albino mink, and for the (endangered) Barn Owl with its snakey neck movement and white face and front. So much owling tonight, so close-up! What a rare opportunity to learn this part of our world that mostly is unseen and unsearched.

Now Open For The 2021 Season! From Feeding giraffes to a guided safari adventure to sluicing for treasure there is always fun to be had at Boulder Ridge! Come on out and experience the wild! We hope you enjoy your visit!
As a family we really enjoy animals. We love being up close and personal to them as well and we go to a zoo almost every time we are in a new city. And I have a deep love for giraffes. So when we heard about Boulder Ridge we were excited to check it out. Boulder Ridge is a small facility. But the care and dedication they put into the animals shows! Wonderful habitats that are very natural. You can also ride the tour bus to go see some of the more exotic animals on the property. In the middle of the park is the area to buy food for the animals. At most other zoos you get A PIECE of lettuce. Not here! YOu can choose a cup full of lettuce, carrots or both. I would suggest both. This way you have carrots for the animals like the goats and camel and lettuce for the Giraffe. What I love about the feedings here is that there is no `waiting in line”. There is no one holding your hand and making sure you only feed this or that one. And you can make your food smaller pieces to have it last longer as well. The Giraffes are able to choose who they eat from when. You get to be up close and personal to them. The girls tend to not mind being pet a little on the face. The big male isn’t as big a fan of this though. And the “baby” Petosky is also super friendly! Make sure to go visit all the animals as well. There are several others to feed. One year they had Emu and Ostrich we could feed. There are also awesome goats, deer and barn yard type animals to feed as well. Don’t throw food into the monkey enclosures though. If they want you to be able to feed the animal you will have the access to do so. We have even been able to feed some of the kangaroos on occasion. It just depends on if they are hungry or not. If you want to spend a good portion of your day here you for sure could. There is also a very nice picnic area for sack lunches right in the park. So grab a bite to eat and enjoy! They do not have food on site. So make sure to bring your own. So go explore. Meet some amazing animals. Wonderful friendly staff and have a great time!

This was my first time here and it was awesome! We came here for the splash pad, and we were not disappointed. The man-made lake is really warm, and the splash pad is legendary. I would recommend this place to families with kids.
