It was pouring when we arrived at East Mount Barren. Glad that it was one of those days when you had lots of sunshine in between the heavy bouts of rain. The signboard stated that it will take 2-3 hours to the summit that we decided against climbing it as we still wanted to stop by all the other areas of interest with our final destination at Hamersley Inlet. Just by walking to the end of the boardwalk, we experienced a splendid array of flora and absolutely stunning views of the ocean. I can't imagine how spectacular the view must be from the summit. Would love to come back here and see what I have missed out ! Because we did not do this hike, our most memorable part of the Fitzgerald National Park is Barren's Lookout.

Stunning small beach. Calm water, good for children and great for snorkelling close to the rocks. Depending on the day you can have the beach only for yourself. The pathway from the car park has toilets and benches with shed. Loved this place.

Fitzgerald River National Park is a biodiversity hotspot in SW WA. The Hakea Trail is 23km one way (46km return) from Cave Point to Quoin Head ( or a shorter option is from Hamersley Inlet to Quoin Head and back). There is a hut at Whalebone Beach with toilet and veranda and sleeping area (though no doors) with extra camping sites. The walk is well marked and follows the fantastic coastline mostly on firm track with occasional beach stretches. Migrating whales and superb wildflowers can also be seen at the right time of year. One of the best walks in Australia. Not too hilly, and easy to follow. Highly recommended.

First stop once you get into the Fitzgerald River National Park is the Four Mile Beach. It is a national park, so you would have to buy a pass beforehand or get one at the checkpoint entry. It is worth getting a yearly pass and if you are also with RAC, you get a 50% discount if purchased online. A very well worth expenditure. Camping is permitted here at the Four Mile Campground. There is a lovely lookout point of the inviting blue waters. Just a pity it is still too cold. Toilets are available and you get a good view of East Mount Barren from here too.
