Beaches are the top draw in this sunny, rapidly developing city, particularly bohemian, party-hearty Iracema, family-friendly Meireles, fishing and boating base camp Mucuripe and low-key Praia do Futuro. Stalls at the Mercado Central or Feirinha Beira Mar brim with local handicrafts, ranging from ceramics to lacework and leather goods. The Dutch-built Fortress of Nossa Senhora da Assunção in the city center, constructed in 1649, marks the spot where Fortaleza originated.

This beach is notable for its strong surf and plentiful bars.
Compared to the Praia de Iracema development along the Praia de Futuro is much more low rise and the whole area has a more natural feel. All along the clean sandy beach are bathing establishments with restaurants and bars. Swimming, sub bathing and watersports most popular activities. Hawkers are persistent...............

The sea is calm and the beach is clean. The beach itself felt safe. I wouldn't recommend going too far from that though. Specially at night. There are a lot of people selling traditional food, caipirinhas and coconuts! Delicious. The market is also very cool to buy art work from locals. Prices are very reasonable.
