Rare plants, exquisite orchids and charity tea parties draw visitors to this botanical garden.

I have visited Durban many times and I always head for the botanic gardens as it is the most beautiful place in Durban. There are always an abundance of flowers and the bird life there is amazing especially around the small lake, and of course there are the monkeys! This garden is a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours away from busy Durban and it is free!!

Umgeni River Bird Park

Reviewed By sidneymacsid - County Clare, Ireland

I found this place on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a go - I am from Ireland so don't see a lot of exotic birds and as an amateur photographer jumped at the opportunity to get up close and personal with some. I wasn't disappointed, they have plenty of birds to look at, many are inside cages which some animal lovers may find annoying but to me, none of them looked distressed, they were all content and quite tame, some were even happy to talk to me. They have a regular bird display which is well worth attending, the trainer was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The entrance fee is very good value and well worth it in my opinion as this place does conservation and need funds to continue that effort.

Natal Shark Board

Reviewed By L3008GBpeterr - Umhlanga Rocks, South Africa

This is a world leading research facility that on certain days is open to the public. However it should be remembered that essentially The KZN Sharks Board is a working marine research facility that specializes in shark research and the safety of the marine ecology. I doubt that there is anywhere else like this in the world and is certainly worth a visit to see what amazing work these people undertake to safeguard both the sharks and the people who venture into the water.

Mitchell Park is one of my favourite places to go whenever we are in Durban. The gardens are very well maintained and Blue Zoo restaurant serves excellent meals. It is a great place to take the family. You can spend the whole day at the park. The restaurant is excellent and very child friendly. The zoo is also a pleasure to walk through. I would highly recommend making time to go to this park if you are in Durban.

Phezulu Safari Park

Reviewed By iolandaa21 - Lisbon, Portugal

Situated in Botha's hill the game reserve provided a different type of experience from any other safaris I had been to. The pathways were steep, narrow and not man-made, giving the traveller a completely different "touch". We came across impalas, nyalas, zebras and giraffes. There is a curio shop with amazing hand-made Zulu crafts and close by a restaurant which provides magnificent views over the valley.
