Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

We visited Goreme in Oktober 2019. It was part of our honeymoon trip and we are still sad because we didnt spent at least couple days more at this magical place. We have heard about is before we came, we saw photos and videos, but believe me you cannot describe how beautiful this place is. It is perfect in September or October to visit since during the summer it is too hot. You can stay at cave hotels, visit open air museum, take one of the tours to visit couple more villages and underground cities and learn more about their tradition, culture and history of course. Prepare yourself to wake up early in the morning and visit Point of View place (ask locals) about directions and enjoy the view over the valley lighten by morning sun and hot air ballons.

A wonderful experience BUT it would have been helpful if a step ladder was provided to help people into the basket. the basket is very high and there are two tiny holes to put your foot into but was too small to get my shoe into. The basket is divided into five sections the biggest naturally for the pilot/ driver there were five people squeesed into each of the other four sections twenty people in total and we were like sardines and could barely move. in my opinion four people to each section would be sufficient. The take off and landing were wonderful and the views from the balloon were marvellous looking down on very high mountains villages fairy chimneys farms etc. it was a terrific experience and would highly recommend it.

At one time up to 20,000 people lived in this underground city carved 18 storeys deep into the Cappadocia earth. Today, 8 floors of rooms, tunnels and passageways are open for public viewing.
If you want a unique experience, then any of Cappadocia's underground cities will fill the bill. The fact that Derinkuyu exists at all is amazing. I highly recommend it... just watch your head, as many of the passageways are so small you have to bend over in half to get through. Not for the claustrophobic or faint of heart.

Lucky Horse Ranch gives visitors the chance to ride with an experienced local guide in a small group setting in Goreme. We are located in a quiet valley just outside of Goreme town in the Cappadocia region of Turkey, which is also known as Land of the Beautiful Horses. Our most popular tour takes in the sunset in Red & Rose Valleys but full day, half day, multi-day and sunrise tours are possible.

Among one of the world’s biggest canyons, the Ihlara is like an open-air museum, with its historical and natural beauty U should go down 382 steps of stairs to see the valley’s stunning landscape of course descend back ????While you hike, you’ll see the famous dwellings, hidden cave churches decorated with frescoes and houses located at the hills in different altitudes. The hours of hiking were worth it anyway and I got I good pictures
