We were staying in a nearby hotel and visited the lakes twice. The road to the lakes is closed from 8.30 am till 5.30pm so we had to go up in the cable car which was a good experience. The walk from the cable car station to the lakes is not to difficult and you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

It is a difficult route because of the difficulty in starting point and the considerable gap that has, more than 1,000 meters. Part of the route follows the GRP signals and passes through the Claror refuge. To access the trailhead, take the road to La Comella (CS-101) from Andorra la Vella and leave the car in a small parking lot it is a little above the km 4. From there we will take a path of ascent to the valley and the col de Prat Primer, passing the refuge of the same name. Behind the quiet, we begin the descent towards Roges ponds and Claror refuge. From this point, we have to follow signs to the GRP towards the lake Nou. The water of this lake, unlike other lakes of the Pyrenees, is not cold at all, since it is nourished by groundwater flowing through the subsoil.

A popular ski resort with basic accommodations and an excellent ski school.
we had been conquered by this ski resort, beautiful ski area, very good restaurants, magnificent hotels, sun, blue skies and good snow.

This a great walking trail which is also a UNESCO world heritage site. I am not sure why this is specifically the case because we had other superb walks in different parts of Andorra. The start point is close to Andorra la Vella. The first couple of hours are uphill but it is all in the shade. There is a mountain hut in a picturesque vista where you can have your lunch.

The largest ski area in the Pyrenees (210km of runs)
We visited as a party of six, ranging from a black-run beast to two who had never been on skis before. The ski instructors were excellent. The lifts were fast and efficient There was a huge variety of ski slopes to suit all of our abilities. The cafes and bars we all great with a good selection of food - including gluten free beer and sandwiches. The ski area is big enough to provide a different area to explore every day. We were based in El Tarter, which requires a gondola to lift you to the ski area; and we managed to visit Pas de la Casa in one direction and Canillo in the other direction. Negatives? Not many: we couldn't ski back to our hotel; and it was a three hour bus journey from Barcelona airport (it would have been the same time from Toulouse). Despite the transfer time, I'd recommend Grandvalira!

What a stunning little place in the snow! Decided to take a stomp into the wilderness, and that's exactly what it is, just a few houses and cabins, then within minutes it's just you and nature. Like stepping back in time into a medieval forest on the mountainside. Breathtaking place if you're lucky enough to catch the snow ...
