Taiwan (/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/ ( listen)), officially the Republic of China (ROC), is a state in East Asia. Its neighbors include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west, Japan to the northeast, and the Philippines to the south. It is the most populous state and largest economy that is not a member of the United Nations.

When the term "guest house" is used, many Western visitors assume it's a slightly down-at-heal residential hotel at the sea-side. Nothing could be further than the truth. The Taipei Guest House dates from the Japanese colonial era; it's a magnificent structure; it's used to house visiting VIPs and host civic receptions. I have been invited to attend several receptions at the Taipei Guest House, most recently to be introduced to Tsai Ing-wen, president of the Republic of China. It's certainly a prime example of Taiwanese craftsmanship of which the people of the island are rightly proud .

What a pleasant surprise! We came upon this site by accident just walking from Longshan Temple to Ximendin in Taipei. This whole block with old buildings was preserved and maintained making this an interesting outdoor 'museum' of lives in the past in this older part of the city. It definitely gave a nostalgic feel without all the commercial bombardment. Highly recommending this if you are in the Longshan Temple or Ximendin area.
