This historic site is inside the Canaveral National Seashore park and so has a national park entrance fee for the vehicle. After entering you travel about 1.25 miles (just past the Apollo Visitor’s center to the River Road turnoff on the right-hand side of the road. This road will take you by the parking areas 7 and above. There are signs for the turnoff for this site. I believe that it is about parking lot 8. Parking lot for this location is a fair distance (about 300 yards down the road) from the physical structure and the river. It is a beautifully restored house to museum for the time period. Upon entry we were greeted by a park ranger. He offered and we watched a 13 minute video. Following that we looked at the displays in the first two rooms of the house. The staff member was very friendly. Outside the house there is a dock to the north and a walkway and trail to the south. We did not go very far along the walkway. If you are a Florida history fan, this is a must-see!

Nicole is amazing and their shop is filled with wonderful, unique treasures, it’s THE PLACE to go when you are looking for something special for someone special! Kyle’s has a gift for seeing and replicating the beauty in nature. His jellyfish and seahorses in particular are breathtaking. We had a wonderful experience visiting their shop and Nicole feels like a new old friend! It was such a joy getting to know her. I highly recommend visiting their business on Flagler Street in New Smyrna Beach or shopping their store online.

The Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum is one of a few of its kind in the state of Florida. It houses a collection of photographs, memorabilia, and artifacts that are displayed to educate citizens and students about the history and race relations in small-town Florida over the course of the 20th century.

We were greeted by Mr Jimmy Harrell, the founders husband. He was so welcoming. Mrs. Harrell captured so much of the Black heritage of New Smyrna. I loved her glass collection and the story behind it. I purchased her book so I could read the memoirs of the families. Can you believe that the schools here were not integrated until 1969? It really makes history come alive.
