Having survived the Mongol Empire, WWII, Chernobyl, and Soviet rule, Kiev is the proud capital of the Ukraine. Filled with theaters, museums, religious sites, modern buildings and ancient ruins, the city of Kiev is the center of Ukrainian culture. The Monastery of the Caves, founded in 1015, and Saint Sophia Cathedral, founded in 1037, are both World Heritage Sites. The Museum of the Great Patriotic War, topped by the massive Motherland Statue, provides gorgeous views of the city below.

What an excellent tour and location. Ivan (My guide) was incredibly knowledgeable, passionate about the topic and personable. It was the perfect balance of history, experience and emotion to make a very memorable adventure. Safety was also never a concern of mine. Ivan made sure to keep the journey interactive while also ensuring we never ventured anywhere that might expose us, or to areas that are no longer structurally sound.

I chose to go w/ JC Travel b/c they had the best price and I liked that I can visit the 3 main cities--Kyiv, Lviv, and Odessa. I wanted to go visit the Holodomor during their remembrance day and Julia (the owner) did everything she can to accommodate me w/ during COVID mandates in Ukraine. She even reminded me when to get my COVID test done b/c you can't get it done too soon or too late esp when my travel time was like 28 hours. I also had to buy COVID health insurance as well, but it was really cheap (11 days for about 12 USD). All her tour guides and drivers were very helpful as well. I can't say enough good things about them. They really take good care of you. Now, why Ukraine? Ukraine is one of the countries open for travel for Americans during COVID and also b/c I love history. I didn't realize this but you get so much for your money traveling here than you would in other parts of Europe, including Russia. Kyiv has a lot of history w/ Russia/USSR (Kyiv also accept USD there btw) and another 2 hours up north is the Chernobyl nuclear plant (Pripyat), which most Americans don't know about unless they have HBO. Pripyat is an abandoned city that was once filled w/ so much life and dreams of a better future.. (Imagine being told to leave your home NOW and never see your home and valuables again b/c they would be looted or liquidated). The stray dogs are also wonderful. There were at least 3 dogs that act as a guide. I saw one of them leading another group and then another two that later found us and then later found our driver. I feel like you can't get lost in Pripyat Then there's Lviv if you want that European feel to it for less than half the cost. Odessa is by the Black Sea and its history is much more diverse. I had such a great time shopping and eating great food. Even though COVID makes life harder (b/c I hate masks and lockdowns), I'm so glad I chose Ukraine and was able to make it out here before our stupid mayor and governor told us we can't travel. Anyway, I would really recommend JC Travel. Julia is very organized and always there for you. Her guides speak very good English and you really get that first class treatment w/ this tour company!

You have lots of options for tour companies to chernobyl but this is the best company to go with. From pick up to drop off, they did a great job of making sure we saw chernobyl, the towns, the lunch, Duga radar etc. Company was on time for pick up, showed us everything, did not rush us, provided authentic Soviet lunch, and dropped us off in Kyiv Alina was my tour guide on May 9 2021 and she was very friendly, informative and really connected with us 5 stars.

Ukraine was the second largest soviet republic in ex-USSR. That's why you can find here a lot of memories and monuments of soviet history. One of the well known all over the world is Chernobyl, where nuclear catastrophe took place in 1986. Thousands of people have to leave their homes, running away from the dangerous radiation. Today you can see ghost city Pripayt, where time had stopped at the end of previous age. Another interesting object - museum of nuclear military missile base. It was created on the place of real military base with nuclear missiles. Here you can visit underground command center, get acquainted to different nuclear missiles and feel the military power of the soviet period. Odessa catacombs - the most famous in the world not only for its intricacies labyrinths, but also by the length that reaches almost three thousand kilometers. All these will make your holiday in Ukraine bright and unforgettable
