We have been visiting this theatre for a few years for the productions by the Progressive Players. They are all of a high standard, however the most recent production of Frankenstein, was particularly memorable. The gothic set was rightly greeted with enthusiastic applause at curtain up. The players were faultless. This could have been a West end production. I wouldn't normally go to see a horror movie, but, this adaption of the original play, was really gripping and executed to the highest standard. The theatre itself is a charming art deco building, with a bustling bar upstairs and tea room downstairs. Booking is simple, and you can even get a downloaded ticket on your smart phone, which even some larger theatres can't manage. It really is a jewel in the crown of Gateshead

At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.
We're regular visitors to the Tyneside Cinema as we have friends tickets which provide discounts in all the facilities and are great value for anyone who enjoys visiting especially on regular basis which we now do. We have sat in all of the different screen studio screens and love them all so comfy - some smaller, some larger - the circle upstairs on the lare chairs and sofas are fab. We followed up with a meal in the Tyneside Tearooms burgers, sharing a lovely fresh side salad and ime made chips with apple pie and custard to follow and couple of bottles of beer. Great food and service - just what was needed after a relaxing cinema experience - we'll be back soon x Very accessible too xxx

Fantastic cinema in a handy location. I walked in, used ticket machine to buy tickets and walked upstairs to screen. VIP seats are highly recommended for an extra £2. I didn't get the obligatory kicks in the back of the seat due to the space. Saw a great film(1917) in a fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Movie Theatre/Cinema with bar and restaurant
This venue and experience is everything I want in a cinema. The venue is in an old converted underground nightclub (ah the memories!) which is centrally located on Grey Street. The bar waiting area is comfortable and the staff have always been happy, chatty and generally very helpful and accommodating of each of our visits, both as a family and as a couple. There a multiple screens, each of which are small in size (great), and have very comfortable sofa style seating with absolutely bags of leg room to stretch out. Food and drinks (including alcohol) can be served in the bar and the screens which is a total bonus. I can't speak highly enough of this cinema, and those bemoaning the cost have totally missed the point. If you are happy with the cheap and crowded environment and simply want to see a film and you're not bothered where, then fill your boots and go to Vue or Odeon (the latter not actually that cheap). However if you want a boutique cinema experience, with surroundings, service to match and away from the crowds, then this is your place!

Received some excellent customer service from an employee named Cody. He was extremely polite and welcoming! He had a smile while we were served our refreshments and cinema tickets. He also made my tango ice blast on point and the best I had. Give this guy a pay rise!

Cineworld Boldon has always been my favourite cinema for two reasons. Firstly, the sound system to me provides an immersive surround sound experience better than any other I’ve been to, and secondly, there’s oodles of free parking immediately outside ???????? Well Cineworld Boldon is about to get even betterer ???? Mrs B and I arrived last night to watch the new period comedy Emma, starring Miranda and Bill Nighy as far as I was concerned, and we were greeted internally by a building site shrouded in black bin-liner material from floor to ceiling, and an atmosphere that screamed non-operational from the moment we got through the front door. The (minimal, as is sadly a sign of the times in this online world in which we live) staff were apologetic, but enthused that Screen Two, which was to be our cinematic home for the evening, had already benefitted from the refit, so we could see what the whole thing would look like upon completion. I wasn’t convinced. Until we got through the entrance to Screen Two and smelled the new carpets, and saw the new floor runway lighting. Hmmmm. Promising. Then we walked the length of the entry corridor, facing the huge screen, and turned to see the new seats. Wow. Pale red leather high-backed chairs arranged in huge cinematic rows, looking very quality, very contoured, very impressive and very inviting. The row numbers were illuminated centrally on the stairs up, together with further red runway lighting to prevent the usual embarrassing stumbles up the stairs while locating one’s row, and the seats no longer flip up to let people past when returning from the loo or a popcorn run- impressive indeed from a logistical point of view. Then the pièce de resistance as we sat down in the soft, warm, inviting leather with the obligatory armrest cupholders and leaned back to make ourselves comfortable- the backrests leaned back with us ???????????????????????? Oh gosh. Comfortable was an understatement. As the film progressed, Mrs B and I were of the opinion very quickly that these new seats revolutionised our viewing experience, providing comfort of the next level. No more numb bums while seated for two or indeed three hours. And indeed this was confirmed over the next two hours in our case. I complemented a senior-looking male member of staff on the way out, who seemed genuinely thrilled that I was being positive concerning the works, and said that other some screens yet to be completed offered even betterer seating yet. I am genuinely thrilled too- Mrs B and I enjoy a trip to the pics, and these seats make the prospect of more reglear visits even more likely. Go there to see your next film. I guarantee your bottom will not fail to be impressed. Ding dong, as Leslie Phillips might have said if his bottom had been treated to such a noteworthy improvement in comfort ????????
