Hubby, friend and I decided to try the climb on our own only to discover a wonderful person named, Enrique. Enrique took our group up the mountain but unfortunately my husband and I got separated from the group and was solo. Enrique did discover us as we made our way down. My recommendations are to wear good footwear, hat, sunscreen and bring water or an electrolyte type drink. Enrique offers this climb every morning at 9:30. He doesn't charge for being your guide, and tips are optional. TIP the Man! He was my savior that day and saved my a**. He is also a dog trainer and the tips help out with food expenses, etc. LOVE You Enrique ! You are the man!

We rented 4-wheelers from Tour-SSO (next door to the restaurant El General. The owner, Julian, and the guide (his son), Carlos, were great. It cost us $1,500 pesos. The ride up is about 40 minutes. Once there, you have a challenging 10 minute hike to the lookout area. The views are spectacular! On the way down, we stopped briefly at Real Alto to visit a 500 year old church. We left town at 11:00 and wore only shorts and T-shirt. We were fine. The trail is really dusty. This was a highlight of our visit to San Sebastián and would definitely recommend it.

You can hike up the West peak from the Piedras Pintas beach. This hike gives you a mroe unobstructed view of the ocean and La Manga beach. Hike up the east side from the obvious Kiosk and this gives you a better view of San Carlos, Guaymas, and still amazing ocean views. This is the more popular of the two hikes. But whatever you do, do NOT miss this amazing vista if you're int he San Carlos area!!
