The eight statues above the archways on the Lyon Opera House represent eight of the muses, goddesses of the arts, literature and science. Lovely indeed.

The Weight of Oneself Sculpture is an incredibly amazing sculpture, more so for its symbolism, than anything else. It is located outside the Palais de Justice, in Lyon. You would have to ask yourself some important questions after studying this sculpture. It depicts a man carrying in his arms another. He may have saved him from drowning or some such incident. It turns out the men are identical. The saviour is actually his own saviour and burden at the same time. Something to really think about!

Situated right in the center of La Place Bellecour, with Fourvière hill and the Basilique Notre Dame providing a dramatic backdrop, is the statue of Louis XIV on a horse from 1825 (a previous version was destroyed during the French Revolution in order to make cannons). At the base of the stature are two allegorical statues of the Saône and the Rhône – depending upon the time of day, one of these is in the sunlight and provides a great photo opportunity.
