10 Monuments & Statues in Sants-Montjuíc That You Shouldn't Miss

October 26, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.

Quatre Columnes

Reviewed By 750dimitrisl - Sydney, Australia

Quatre Columnes is a set of four columns above the Magic Fountain. They were placed there in 1919, as a symbol of the four stripes of the Catalan flag. However, in 1928 the then government of dictator Primo de Rivera destroyed all symbols of Catalan independence, so that they would not attract any attention during the following year's Universal Exposition. The columns were remade and repositioned in 1999. They do make a great statement!
