Early Morning Coffee

We came across these fantastic looking statues on a walk from Station Pier to Elwood then back to Station Pier via the Botanical Gardens. The walk is truly amazing with so much to do and see with plenty of cafes, restaurants and toilets along the route.

South African (Boer) War Memorial

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

The Boer War was fiought around the turn of the 20th century between the British Empire, including Australia, and the Boers. The Boers, who were mainly farmers of Dutch origin, wanted to break away from British South Africa. Unfortunately for the Boers, they threatened the British hold on South Africa's vast wealth of gold and diamonds. The Boer War is important, as was the first time Australia went to war as a nation. The South African War statue stands in Hooper Reseeve, Brunswick. The memorial commemorates four local men, all volunteers, who did not return.
