The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

The inaugural sculpture in the Southern Hemisphere’s first Museum of Underwater Art, the 'Ocean Siren' is installed alongside North Queensland’s iconic Strand Jetty in Townsville. 'Ocean Siren' is modelled on local Wulgurukaba Traditional Owner, Takoda Johnson, with a vision to inspire reef and ocean conservation action and achieve positive environmental outcomes. The ‘Ocean Siren’ reacts to live water temperature data from the Davies Reef weather station on the Great Barrier Reef and changes colour in response to live variations in water temperature. It was installed in December 2019, made possible through a $2 million Queensland Government grant. The sculpture is free to view and open 24/7!

Australia’s favourite BIG THING (in our opinion anyway!) is also the home of Bowen's accredited Visitor Information Centre! Situated on the A1 Bruce Hwy with sweeping views of the Whitsunday coast it’s the perfect pull over during the epic East Coast Australian Roadtrip. Get your selfie then pop into the accredited Information Centre on site for all the info on our great state of Queensland. Grab an icy cold mango sorbet and learn about Bowen, the wonderful Whitsunday region, book a Whitsunday experience, grab a map, guide book, have a chat and a cuppa! Happy Travels!
Always wanted to see the Big Mango. Great little stop to get a photo and sit down and have some ice cream. The Mango ice cream was beautiful as was the mango sorbet. The kids had the chocolate ice cream and that was beautiful too. Served in cups the servings were massive. Picked up a hat pin for my collection too lol. The ladies in the information area were great. Lots of info and brochures and advice. Definitely recommend a stop here.
