I cannot say enough about this amazing ryokan that my husband and I stayed at for two nights on our three week trip to Japan. It was an experience that we won't soon forget. Although it was expensive we felt it was well worth the money. The price included both breakfast and dinner, each consisting of multiple beautifully plated and delicious ( mostly) courses. Each dish was explained to us by the server and the owner dropped by at dinner to help us choose a bottle of sake to go with our meal. We were overcome by the quantity and quality of the food as well as by the friendliness and professionalism of the owners and staff ( all of whom spoke English). Our room was large with a spacious living room and a separate bedroom and was equipped with WIFI. Also included with our room were two private outdoor onsens with views of Mount Yufu and a small indoor onsen. I would highly recommend that people who want to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan go to Yufuinsanso Waremoko. The room, the food and, most importantly the owners and staff, are all exceptional.

The key is Private On-Sen upon very good pricing. There are 4 On-Sen; 2 Outdoor and 2 Indoor. This will be good place for On-Sen upon privacy. We did try twice on Biggest On-Sen outdoor as 6-7 occupied. Dinner is optional but I saw many people took this option. I do believe that location is a little far from downtown (actually less than 10 min walk). Then, dinner should be placed in the hotel for convenience. Dinner and Breakfast is local taste. There is small vending machine in the lobby. Free Transfer can be made upon request by e-mail. I feel staying HOME not Hotel. Host and staff (speaking Japanese, English and Thai) are considered as 5-star service. Highly Recommended. Re-Visit for sure

A nice small place to stay, small but efficient rooms with big windows. Easy walk to town. Garden could use some care and maintenance. Hot bath was really too hot (I visited many onsen). Breakfast is good though simple, salade, 2 croissants, light soupe. Make your own tea or instant coffee. Very quiet, lots of privacy.

We made a booking directly with the hotel (Google translate). Communication wasn’t very prompt and last email was never responded. But it was ok. Our request for ground floor room was granted. Room We booked a western twin room. It was small with no cupboard, only 2 hooks. Besides this, it was clean and came with attached toilet. Bed was comfortable as well. Facilities Nice public Onsen - large. A pity no view at all to speak off. I didn’t use their 5 private onsens since they were not attractive. Free beer, coffee & tea. Really pretty courtyard, especially in the evening with the kerosine lamps. In the daytime you can see there are room for improvement. Location Excellent, very close to Yufuin’s major attractions like the lake, shopping street and Floral Village. Yet it is located along a quaint canal with great view of the paddy fields and mountains. Not very convenient for walking from the station though due to the non-tar road in immediate vicinity. Taxi fare was reasonable - ¥710. Services Not the friendliest. Staff did bring us to our room, detouring to show us the onsens. However, quite grumpy. After check-in I asked for assistance to book a local restaurant. They won’t help. Food We changed our booking from half board to no meals after our requests for some food tweaks were refused. Conclusion I would return for their location, ambience, good value and the free beer/coffee ?

Stayed overnight with a family of 4. Private semi outdoor onsen was a exciting and relaxing at the same time. Imagine a temperature of 4C outside during winter but soaking in the warm water. Breakfast was good with traditional Japanese meal.

If you wish to experience a real Japanese countryside life, this is the right choice. It's a very basic accommodation, staying together with a lovely old couple with shared bathroom with the owners. The room is air-conditioned and heater during winter, with attached toilet. The owner is a farmer, and runs a small restaurant about 5-min drive from the hotel (perhaps a Cottage is more appropriate). The room is relatively clean by countryside level. You can have a superb view of the Mont Yufu right in front of the hotel. The room rate includes dinner at the restaurant. Free pick-up is available at Yufuin Train Station. The distance is about 20-min drive from the train station. If you are looking for a unique experience of peaceful country life, it worth a try.
