I just stayed here for four nights during a hiking trip to wonderful Yakushima. While booking, I chose the "new building" option and it turned out to be great with immaculately clean facilities. Showers and kitchen are all new and very modern looking. The room was also a decent size. I also liked the location of the new building located few minutes walk away from the restaurant area. Highly recommended. It is a great gem for the price.

We stayed 7 nights, and chose this guest house based on previous reviews. Probably because of end of year timing, there were no English speaking staff. The guest house was run by a very lovely elderly couple who ensured we were comfortable despite language barriers. This was the main reason for 5-star review. The tatami room was large and comfortable, but always smelt damp on entering. Had a sink in the room which was useful. The bath was just divine everyday after long hikes. We were the only guests for a few days, and realised the walls were quite thin on days with other guests. Most people were considerate of this. Free use of washing machine, dryer 100yen. Breakfast and dinners were great, traditional Japanese style - a must try. Ramen shop to the left of guest house is not on google maps - also a must try (just walk next door). We are a minute drive from large supermarket and yen store, and across from that is an amazing cafe/restaurant with top quality pasta and pizza, plus other fusion dishes. Perfect for a rainy slow day. Hired hiking for 2-days shoes for 1000yen. Very new and clean. They forgot to order our bento lunch boxes, and elderly gentleman was awake at 430am making rice balls for us that he would not charge us for. Very deserving of 5-stars and great to support a local family. Also check out Bless Yakushima in Anbo!

What a wonderful place with lovely hosts and great food! We spent a couple of nights here as a family and enjoyed every single second of it. Not only the whole island is a very special place, but this minshuku made the stay even more special. Clean rooms, friendly people and great food on top! The flying fish is especially memorable.

The location is excellent, 3 minutes away from the harbor, across the street is a grocery store. The inn keeper is very friendly and helpful; every morning he made us a delicious bento box for lunch to take to the hike. He speaks very limited English; a conversation is not possible. The rooms are Japanese style which we loved. The Inn itself seems to be a bit neglected; the hallway smells like a wet dog however we did not see a dog during our 3-night-stay. The toilet itself is clean but the corners store plenty of dust. It's a bit difficult to review this place because everyone is so incredible friendly, the tatami mats are comfy and the food especially dinner is delicious but you need to overlook the unattended spaces. The cleanliness left something to be desired. Be aware you have to pay in cash.

We stayed at Myojoso for one night. The place seemed to have suffered some water damage and felt a bit rundown too. The room felt a bit damp but seemed otherwise at least cleanish. The owner was very friendly though and offered us some local drinks in addition to giving us a ride from and to the harbour.

Yakushima Guesthouse Suginoko is located 100 metres away from the nearest bus stop and close to the Jomon Sugi trailhead. All the rooms are equipped with private bathrooms and necessities provided. Complimentary parking available. Breakfast is included. The kitchen and living room are open for your use. The staff are happy to give you tips and chat with you in a friendly environment.
Firstly, I am surprised how little reviews Suginoko has on trip advisor. I booked off hotels.com and found the rate to be very reasonable compared to other accommodations on Yakushima. The room is comfortable with air conditioning. The shower has great water pressure. The bento box they prepared for me on one of the mornings I had an early morning trek was tasty and exactly what I needed to keep me going in the afternoon. Though Anbo is not the main port, I ended up having to go to Miyanoura Port (Anbo was closed due to typhoon coming in) and I personally thought Anbo was much more charming. The only tricky part is finding the tourist info center which is a 10 min walk from Anbo port and has no signage. I was able to find it after asking for directions and got the unlimited bus pass. This bus pass was the best thing I got because it enabled me to see so much of Yakushima. The bus route is all along the coast and entirely scenic!! From Anbo towards Shiratani Uesikyo and the other way to Kurio beach, I saw so much that is the quaint and beautiful Yakushima. This hotel is right at bus stop 60, you have to walk into a suspicious looking road, Ive attached a picture because I was confused that the sign did not have English, but it is telling you suginoko is straight ahead. Hope you stay there and hope you really enjoy Yakushima!!

The hotel is well located close to the port. My room was confortable but the door had a window so I had the light from the corridor. No wifi in my room and the bath was cold in the morning so I assume you have to wash on the evening. A bit noisy.

Almost in front of Yunohama Bus Stop, few minutes walk to Sunamushi Kaikan for Sand Bath ,the pension is well kept and the room I stayed was very clean. Not so many restaurants near it, so you may walk to JR Ibusuki Station in 10-15 minutes or you can have a dinner there too.

It is a small guest house using traditional Japanese old houses as it is. There is self-catering facilities. There are experiential workshops, such as Goemonbouro who became rare in Japan, rice planting, making vegetarian cuisine, butoh and so on. (Reservation required) Long-term stay welcome. (Consultation on price) It is in a quiet village where you can enjoy the spectacular sunset ocean and the
I spent quite some time in Yakushima - I visited the island twice and my last visit lasted for two months. I had the chance to test many different accommodations during my long stay and Suishodama was far out one of the most interesting accommodation experience that I ever had in Japan. Old Japanese style home now serving as a hotel/hostel. It is an old house with traditional toilet but very clean. Nagata itself feels quite secluded and I think it is visually the most pleasant town in Yakushima with the views of a volcanic island and quite impressive Mount Nagata. With the price, do not hesitate to pick this hostel if you intend to base yourself in Nagata.
