Loved the first Gramping experience!! Our family loves travel - so we were trying to find some unique experience for our 10yrs old son, who already got stamps from 26 countries on his 3rd passport. We chose Gramping option for the 3-day holiday in late March. It was really nice experience though the weather was not perfect. The pension itself is a great place to stay. Large log-house with 2 guest rooms + owner's place is spacious and beautiful. And in the glass garden, the owner just opened 2 gramping rooms. Actually we were the first guests for the gramping so we (and other guests at another tent) got together to celebrate the first night with the owner. The BBQ with local beef and beer was awesome and owner's local story was very insightful. We enjoyed beautiful morning chorus of the birds, while we could not enjoy the stars, because of the weather. The room was comfortable - bed, table, fridge, lights and charging station there. Highly recommend for young couple or family with kids. The log house has toilet and bathroom but you can try Hot Spring near-by too. It was really great stay in Miyako Island for the first time.

I have not actually visited this property, but I have unsuccessfully booked a stay twice. First in October 2018 I had to cancel my stay when ANA canceled my flight from Tokyo to Miyako due to a supertyphoon. I booked a stay again for April 2020, but this time my flight to Japan from the United States was canceled because of the coronavirus. The staff handled both cancellations with understanding, kindness, and compassion. They did not attempt to charge me for the cancellations, and they encouraged me to keep trying to visit Miyako despite all of the bad luck. Email communication was easy, efficient, and helpful. Five stars for caring about customers.

It's a standard, if not slightly below standard stay. The rooms were fine! Bathrooms are small but expected in Japan, beds were very comfy and I was happy to see a balcony. They cleaned everyday and the ladies in reception were lovely. The one we dealt with predominately didn't speak any english and only spoke the old Miyako form of japanese which made the small amount we knew useless, however she was HUGELY friendly, helpful and all round generally lovely. Breakfasts are crazy. I could barely eat lunch. Don't expect your usual breakfast. She will serve you what she has up for the day, including fish, rice, hot or cold soups, tofu, raw egg to mix in your rice and all sorts of other items. Very fun! I loved it. Miyako is VERY quiet. It's not the Japan that you may be used to from the Tokyo or Kyoto area either. Buildings are plain, the area isn't exactly pleasant nor does it feel like 'island life' so this place is not bad given the few other options around. Good location too. Easy walking distance to the 'food' and 'nightlife' streets.

A villa style hotel. Excellent facility and staff. Some staff speak English fluently. The spacious room had a nice and cozy private pool! The beach right across the road was clean and beautiful. Snorkeling instruments were free. With just 10 meters away from the beach, we found so many tropical fish! 15 min drive from the Miyako airport. So many flights from Naha, Okinawa. Wi-Fi was free in the room. I did not have any difficulty with the Internet connection.

This place is a bit off the roads but really comfortable and nice. You only need a car (or better a car with GPS) to get there. I had a very nice room, with spacious bathroom, all possible comforts and with a sea view, on the second floor of the building. It was really high standard, with western beds, AC and a nice wooden floor. The house is surrounded by sugar cane fields and you see the sea and one of Miyako's bridges far away. Very nice Japanese breakfast, really tasty. If you do not speak Japanese you can get in contact with the ladies running the house by mail in English. It worked very well in my case and I made a reservation many months in advance. Miyakojima is really worth a visit, particularly if you like snorkeling, but the whole island is interesting and there are very nice people living there who are ready to help you even if you do not speak the language. I really recommend this place!

We spent here 4n, choosing the place not only for the quite reasonable price (approx €75/n) but also for the very positive (although few) reviews. First thing first, if you really want to fully enjoy the island(s) and its amazing beaches you need a car, forget about using bicycles, taxi from/to airport etc. The pension is really isolated in the middle of cultivated field, however the location (having a car) doesn’t really matter in my opinion. Nearest Family Mart 7’ driving, harbour/city/mall less than 15’, everything is really close and convenient. The pension as mentioned in a previous review is very Japanese style, with spacious kitchen/dining room, long corridor with 5 (6?) rooms, wc/showers at the very end. It’s surrounded by a very nice garden. We’ve had a small inconvenience when checking in with the owner/housekeeper (very nice guy) since the payment accepted is only cash, which wasn’t mentioned in our reservation made via Agoda. Anyway, we promised to withdraw the money the next day (which we did in one of the Post Offices, since we had problems at ATM’s at Family Mart), not a bid deal really but it’s definitely not a plus not being able to pay by credit card. As said the room is Japanese style, enough spacious for 2ppl, with tatami and futons. These are quite thin to be honest, hence the first night of sleep wasn’t really the best. Luckily we were able to get an extra futon each, which was definitely a plus. Also we were surprised that no blankets/sheets are provided, only a very large towel which probably serves also as blanket. Again, we asked if we could get some bed (futon) sheets to cover us up during the night and there was no problem with that. The place is spotless clean, good WiFi, very silent A/C in the room. However the main reasons why I’m giving 3 and not 4 stars are the following: the places was packed with Japanese families with kids, at least 2-3 at the same time, which means almost 15 people (or more). The place can get therefore extremely noisy and busy, with kids walking (almost running) up and down along the corridor, especially early in the morning. I know it can’t be controlled by the ownership but future guests must be aware of that. Also, we could hear next door’s neighbors talking and snoring, definitely this affects the quality of sleep. Secondly, there are only 2 WC’s (M/F) and 2 showers (M/F), really not enough for a place which can get up to 20 people. Luckily I didn’t have any issue really, but frankly I reckon they should have at least 2 extra WC/Showers. Other than that, a big plus was having 2 washing machines+2 dryers available. There’s enough space to park your car in the garden. Some fantastic beaches (especially Yoshinokaigan) and a beautiful lighthouse (Higashi-Hennazaki) are 10’ driving distance. Overall, I would recommend the place if you have no inconvenience to share it with possibly 15+ people.
