Thirteen hundred years ago, Nara (then Heiju-kyu) was the imperial capital of Japan. "Old Japan" is still easy to spot here, from Great Buddha Hall to traditional ryokans and the serene Isuien garden. Travelers rave about walking tours of Nara, particularly in the historic Naramachi merchant area.

This guesthouse is the perfect place to stay in Nara if you are looking for great accommodation and service at an affordable price. The owner of the guesthouse was polite, courteous and very eager to help. He gave us good recommendations on where to go and was very professional and helpful. The guesthouse has a kitchen so you can do some cooking if required. We stayed in a Japanese style tatami room which was really spacious and clean. The futon beds were extremely comfortable. The bathroom is well stocked with soap and shampoo so you really get everything that you need. The room has very good heating so you don’t need to worry about the winter cold. Location wise, the place is near all your local attractions, the old town and the temple landmark. Thanks Iki for making our new year stay so relaxing and enjoyable! We cooked hot pot in the Kitchen over new year as all the restaurants were closed and it was an amazing stay overall. Would definitely be back when we visit Nara again!

Guesthouse Naramachi is a hundred years merchant house where a famous calligrapher " Tahara Setsuzan" lived. It is a house of traditional architecture that runs traditional Japanese business. You can learn Japanese life style by lodging. As this guesthouse is in a downtown you can experience standard rural meals nearby guesthouse!
We had a very pleasant stay at Guesthouse Naramachi, an nice old style Japanese hotel. Welcome tea and coffee and the common room make you feel at home easily and the private room was very spacey for the guesthouse price.

Kamunabi is a guest house that just opened in October 2016, located in a historic district "Nara-machi". We renovated a machi-ya (merchant townhouse), so you can experience the atmosphere living is the old times of Nara city. You can find us next to Fukuchi-in (Important Cultural Property) with the big ”旅籠”sigh in front. We also have a cafe & bar space so come in relax and tell us about our journey.
A Brilliant space nicely tucked away from all the tourists and noise. Yet really well situated only a few minutes walk from the park or the town centre. A bit of a hike from the station but that gives you a chance to get your bearings. Sooo friendly and helpful. I will definitely use again.

Yes, the deer are lively, and cute but walk around this beautiful park and take it in. We watched a monk going through a set of prayers, visited beautiful shrines and an old graveyard. Spend time here with places beyond the deer.

Stayed here three nights in a private room and was very comfortable. The en-suite room was a modest size (which is to be expected in Japan) but well appointed, only niggle was that the toilet was close to the bathroom room door. The open area by reception (with free issue tea and coffee) was light and airy so that was a much better alternative than sitting in the room, the chance to buy pastries for a hundred yen in the morning was very welcome too. Staff were pleasant and efficient, and let me stow my backpack for a few hours when arriving for check in far too early. The hostel itself is situated on a quiet street with little traffic but only a couple of blocks from Nara Park and just up from the local rail station (although it is ten minutes or so walk to the main line).

Yuzan guesthouse Annex is a budget hostel in Nara. We renovated 100 years old japanese style house. This small guesthouse has only 5 private rooms. Yuzan Guesthouse annex is located 4 minutes walk from Kintetsu Nara station and 8 minutes walk from JR Nara station. We hope you can stay and spend a relax time.
Before I joined my friends in Kyoto I spent a couple of days in Nara and stayed in this guesthouse. It's located on the edge of the old town and just a 5-minute walk from Kintetsu Nara station. The guesthouse is housed in a very traditional Japanese dwelling complex, ie you have to keep quiet if possible, as the walls aren't sound-proof. But I like this coz normally most cheap places to stay are full of noisy backpackers, but this isn't. I stayed in the dorm room, which is neat and clean. When I was there the host was doing experiment in pizza making so I tried a few slices of it, which tasted really good. The kitchen has almost everything so if you want to make your own meals it's possible. Highly recommend this place to anyone on the shoestrings yet looking for a decent place to stay.

Nara Guesthouse 3F has some private rooms and female dormitory. We provide free breakfast every morning. All rooms share communal shower room, wash room and kitchen. Our B&B are located in center of Nara and everything close(Deer park,Todai-ji temple etc...). Nara are very peaceful area and traditional. There are a lots of temples and nature, deer. The atmosphere makes you be free.
CAREFUL: DO NOT BOOK THIS GUESTHOUSE DURING TYPHOON SEASON (august - november). Our domestic flight to Osaka was cancelled due to a taifun. Therefore we had to cancel the rooms. Not only are we missing out on our highlight of our trip to japan, we also have to deal with the fact that this hotel is charging us the full fee (!!!) despite the fact that we had no chance to arrive at Nara. We contacted the guesthouse and kindly ask for a reduction of the cancellation fee. The guesthouse did not change their mind at all and were not helpful at all. This is very unfortunate and does not represent the service japanese hotels normally offer their guests if they are in need. I therefore highly suggest you find another accommodation so that you do not have to deal with this kind of "service".
