Our guesthouse Raicho where is located in Norikura Highland, Nagano Prefecture, situated 1,500 meters above sea level and is surrounded by wonderful nature. 100% Natural hot spring (sulfurous; ‘Onsen’) is available both indoors and outdoors. Heal your body in the Onsen, and free your mind in the untouched wilderness of the Japan Northern Alps!
This is a nice guesthouse with private onsen (which you can use with no extra fee!). The rooms are basic but comfortable; the beds are typical japanese style (futon on a tatami floor) and are surprisingly very comfortable. The comunal areas are very clean and modern. It does not have the backpacker atmosphere that I was expecting but it is still very nice. The location is remote (in the middle of the Japanese alps) which may make it difficult to access and but it provides with amazing views and great hiking spots. The host, Yuma, offers to pick you up from the nearest bus station, we did not need it as we had a car.

Dot Hostel Nagano locates only 1 minutes walk from Zenkoji temple and 20 minutes walk from Nagano station. 100 years old traditional house has been renovated for the hostel. The lounge is big enough for more than 15 people to eat and drinks as well as using laptop with free-wifi. If you want to feel like real japanese life, this is the one you should stay for you!
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dot hostel. It's such a beautiful place with great vibes. Beautiful as in the old Japanese style building, and the decor inside, and the entire experience. The people working there are reeeaaally nice too!! It's also very close to zenkoji temple which is the biggest sight in Nagano city. There's also free breakfast! Will 100% come back and recommend to all coming travelers!!

Welcome to Guest House KURA in Suzaka City, Nagano!!An authentic traditional Japanese Guest House! This house was built more than 100 years ago and was only renovated in 2012 in a way that retained the building's Japanese quaint atmosphere. All rooms come in Tatami style and feature traditional Futon beds. When staying at one of our comfortable and cozy rooms, one is brought in touch with traditional Japanese lifestyle. Guest House KURA is the only budget hostel that will bring you back in time to experience the ancient Japan!Easy access to Nagano City, Zenkoji temple, Snow Monkey park, and downtown Obuse.
Guest House Kura was incredible. We were originally booked for 4 nights but ended up staying 5. We just didn't want to leave. Marina and Yuuri are outstanding hosts and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The house is over 100 yrs. old and is a classic Japanese home with sliding doors and tatami floors. A piece of Japanese history. The little café attached to the guest house, La Vie Lente is run by Marina's mom and serves the BEST Tart Tatin we had ever had and doubles as a communal dining room in the evenings. Just charming! One of the best things about staying there is returning at the end of the day and spending the evenings chatting with Yuuri and Marina and the other guests in the lounge. It truly feels like home. Any barriers of language and culture between guests from all parts of the world are quickly forgotten as you get to know each other. Don't miss out on this wonderful experience. Priceless!

Kizuna Lodge has everything our guests need to be comfortable and our location allows for easy access to everything that both Wadano and Happo Village have to offer as well. The lodge has a wood fireplace and sun room for guests looking to warm up after a long day on the mountain. There is also a large commercial kitchen, which is perfect whether you're cooking for your family.
Cosy, simple accommodation in a typical lodge. Justin and Kaoli are very nice, friendly and super helpful hosts. Location is a bit remote from Happo-one main gondola and from the local shop, but the lodge provides free transport any time in the morning and there is a public shuttle route nearby in the afternoon. Shared kitchen and a nice dining room with a fireplace available for guests. Good set breakfasts provided and there are several restaurants in a walkable distance available for a dinner. All in all very good.

This is my new favorite place to stay in Japan! The owners were sweet, friendly, and attentive. The common areas were decorated in a lovely mountain-home style with a little Hawaiian flare thrown in. Each time I came back from sightseeing, the lounge was warm and there was great background jazz playing. I stayed in the female dorm room, and was really comfortable (the futon was really hard, but otherwise the bedding is pretty nice). The public bath for guests was perfect - clean, smelling of cedar, and open at convenient hours. For the money, the location, hospitality, and comfort can't be beat. I'll be back soon!

The Sachinoyu Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Shigakogen, Japan with easy access from the Nagano Shinkansen Station. Through a central but secluded location, our hotel serves as the hub for all your outdoor adventures including skiing, snowshoeing, paddle boarding, hiking in the beautiful surrounding mountains. In addition to all the outdoor activities, the hotel is located nearby to local attractions such as the Shibu Onsen and the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park.
I stayed here in June for a weekend trip to Shiga Kogen and had a great stay. Our first night we ate BBQ in the hotel restaurant and the owners took us to see the stars at top of a nearby mountain. We slept well in our tatami mat room. The extensive breakfast buffet was delicious. There is hiking, firefly viewing, canyoning, and standup paddling boarding nearby.

Absolutely loved our stay at Wind Inn, it was tidy and quiet and provided everything we needed after a fun day on the slopes. Hayato and family provided a warm and friendly experience and excellent value for money. Although as mentioned in previous reviews there is no Onsen on site, it was an absolute privilege to be able to use the Onsen facilities up at Stelle Belle and the short walk up the road was not a problem. The on site restaurant was absolutely delicious, probably the best sushi I’ve had and I am usually not a big fan of nigiri but the tuna and salmon was so fresh. Hayato also served us some special Okinawan Sake which was a real treat and Wind Inn guests get a 20% discount so dinner was a bargain. There is a small supply of free bread, muesli, tea and coffee for a quick and easy breakfast, but best to stock up on some supplies at the local convenience store if you want a solid breakfast for a day on the slopes. I would highly recommend staying at Wind Inn if you want value for money and a friendly atmosphere.

1166 backpackers is a place to sleep, meet local people in Nagano, Japan. We have 3 rooms waiting for you to sleep in. Our lounge is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy with playing games or reading books. We are located in the MONZEN neighborhood in the old city center where is few steps away from the Zenkoji temple. Travel as escaping the hustle and bustle of urban city to Zenkoji temple, you will see old traditional houses here and there. To be amazed, over 50 small business like cafes, restaurants, book shops, flower shops, galleries and craft shops are newly opened by young people in this 5 years with renovating old warehouses in this area. These shops are not for busy tourists hopping around major touristic spots with lonely planet but for tourists who need time for chill-out. As we all know, Nagano city is hub of hopping around major spots like ZENKOJI TEMPLE, SNOW MONKEY PARK, MATSUMOTO CASTLE, OBUSE, TOGAKUSHI, ONSENs and more. So, what I want to say is we are best-located hostel for both sides of sightseeing and relax time!!
We had just one night in Nagano but I am so glad we stayed at 1166 Backpackers, and I would have loved to stay longer! The hostel is in a great location, walkable from the station but close to the main street (Chuo-dori) and the incredible Zenko-ji temple (good for getting to the atmospheric early morning service!). There's also lots of great restaurants, bakeries, cafes around. The welcome at the hostel was really greats, like we were old friends rather than new guests, Minami showed us tips for the city, shared her knowledge and very chatty. We had a dormitory to ourselves which wasn't huge, but fine for our purposes, and it was warm (not always the case in Japanese accommodation in January!). It was a fab stay and I would definitely recommend to others.
