Stayed here for two nights in a small cabin. Everything was tidy and functioning, just ok for two people. They do have bigger cabins and a campsite also. Service was very friendly at all times. There were also some fireplaces, kitchen for campers and of course showers and toilets also. One very positive thing: they do recycle here. There were dedicated bins for your different types of rubbish. Would highly recommend this place and will go again.

Hotel Kalevala is a private, family-run hotel situated by the Lake Lammasjärvi in Wild Taiga,Finland by the Russian borderline. We are offering special holiday packages year round, including huskysafaries, scooter safaries, Christmas Holidays, cross country skiing etc. for winter. At the summertime most popular activites are bearwatching, hiking along the Russian borderline, cycling, fishing, picking berries & mushrooms.Nearby the hotel is Petola Nature Centre (exhibition about the large carnivores in Finland) and Winter War Museum. In Kuhmo Village, only 3,5 km from the hotel we recommend a visit at Kuhmo Arts Centre and Juminkeko; information centre for Kalevala (our national epic) and Karelian culture.
The hotel is in lovely location. Clean hotel and very quiet surroundings Staff lovely, friendly and attentive. If you want a hotel away from the crowds and enjoy the outdoors this is the hotel for you

Very focused on bear photography. The whole area is kept very basic due to fit in the wild environment and not to scare away the bears. On the webpage you get detailed information what to expect in with hide and these forecasts turned out to be very precise. The hides are perfectly shaped for photography with an ok comfort level. Note that this is not a hotel room! You should come here to get in touch with wildlife and for photography - then you will get a unique an close up experience. I would come back any time. Staff was very friendly and the snack packs provided provide everything needed.

Nothing to complain really. Kuhmo is a small town and the hotel is not the five-star Riu, but they are not saying it is. Friendly staff, clean cool and quiet room. Very good buffet breakfast. Motorcycle parking on the front door.

Our little room on the ground floor had all we needed with the extra great help of the lovely lady running the place. Our communication was limited as we do not speak Finnish but she was so very helpful. There is a small kitchenette with a coffee machine & a very small but clean bathroom. The bonus verandah at the front is great ?

Our basecamp is ideally located beside a conserved lake. It has 25 rooms (single, double and triple) and 7 cottages called "Mökit" in Finnish. We also have wooden and electric saunas in front of the lake facing our hotel. A conference and recreation room is also available for seminars and private groups. All our cottages are fully equipped with TV, small kitchen, private bathroom and a small private sauna. They are quite comfortable and functional. You are guaranteed an authentic stay in Finland in the heart of the Hossa natural park. The rooms are more modern and are heated thanks to the lake with the geothermal activities. In order to be closer to nature, the rooms do not have TVs or kitchens.
We stayed in one of the small cottages which was okay - beds were comfy and it looked cozy but interior definitely needs an upgrade/renovation. It is said that the cottage would fit for a family of four but it hardly fitted two adults with a fair amount of luggage as there is no room for storage at all. Having breakfast is fine but making diner really impossible when you do not want just to heat up water and prepare a camping meal in a bag. Strangely there was only one lady at the reception who also was working in the kitchen - she didn’t know a single word in English and as we arrived it was not possible to get checked-in before she organized a translator. So there was also jo instruction for food or bar- as we were told in the email “restaurant will be open”. When we came there next day, same lady was there, no communication possible. Would have liked a beer from the bar - no one was there and the lady was busy cleaning dishes.“Dinner” was left over buffet which was almost completely fine by the time we were there (18:30h) . So we left somewhat disappointed and hungry, for payment of the cabins she organized another English speaking lady. Surroundings of the national park are extraordinary, we spend two perfect days in the woods. If you go there do not count on restaurant/bar or whatsoever. Try not to bring so much baggage- in case you are into photography and have tons- rethink accommodation!

Standard hotel with ok rooms and breakfast. Buffet dinner quite ok as well. Fine spa though with dry and steam saunas, large pool, bubble pools, water slides, etc. So if you will take advantage of the pool area this hotel could be recommended.
