Following a very successful season we have continued to upgrade and improve our hotel. With six brand new bedrooms in our architect designed annex and the development of the pool and garden area including our new Surf'n'Turf restaurant we aim to provide a warm welcome where it meets the cool Atlantic breeze. Ocean Villa Heights, the small hotel with a big personality.
Visited for a week with my mother to celebrate my birthday. Communication was brilliant prior to arrival and a return airport transfer was arranged which was a lovely touch - especially being my mother's first time in West Africa & use being two women alone. The lovely Bibi met us at the airport & kept us safe on the drive to Bijilo despite various roadside protests/parties en route which was often a little frightening - especially in the dark. Our room was as expected - specious and clean although very basic. The lovely Paula got our safe & fridge working the following morning & we met her gorgeous little dog Teddy who became our companion & resident entertainer for the week. Paula was beyond helpful throughout the week, providing us with local advice, currency exchange, arranging food & drinks & answering our queries. The lovely bar man/pool guy Mala is such a lovely gentle soul always with a smile each morning - an asset to the team. Sonia & Fatima too & the lovely cleaning ladies, one of whom decorated my bed on my birthday. Of course the lovely Mala - thank you for my floral arrangement on my birthday morning too. Breakfast each morning as great - fresh bread and omelettes freshly made alongside yoghurt, juice, tea & fresh coffee. Often fresh fruit too. Lunches & Dinner were lovely. We had roast chicken, salads, sandwiches & fish. All beautifully cooked & tasty. The location is in a strip on the main Bijilo Heights road. Harmony resort & Leos within the vicinity. You'll need a torch for the evenings in case the street lights are out - it's pitch black & the sandy road is uneven. Each property has security outside. Overall a lovely find close to the best stretch of beach in the area. We will of course return.

Leo's Beach Hotel & Restaurant is a chic Boutique Hotel directly on a cliff above the wonderful tranquil beach of Brufut. Modern design and excellent service in a fantastic African landscape. High standard and soothing quiet in a modern ambiance with African accents guarantee that you can spend a relaxing and inspiring time.
Located in the quieter and more up-market Brufut area, Leo's is a beautiful 6 bedroom boutique hotel with ocean views and a lush garden. This is 5 star luxury on a small scale at 3 star prices. We spent 6 nights here which was probably enough, but didn't tire of the cool ambience and great service. Fixing a couple of minor irritations could improve things further - better WiFi in the bedrooms and a more generous breakfast menu. Free water in big dispensers might encourage less single use plastic usage. Overall, excellent. Thank you.

Where do I start... The place is just magical. Lime trees, grapefruit trees, other trees, bouganville in four colours, birdsong, good food, warm and openhearted owners and friendly dogs. And all of that with a clean conscience (well, except for the flight). We spent a week at the lodge and after day one felt like we were HOME. We were the only guests there and were treated like family. Our five year old daughter

Sandele is an award winning ecolodge located on a stunning deserted beach in Southern Gambia. We offer accommodation in luxury lodges, nestled in the bush a hundred metres from the beach. The Retreat is operated in conjunction with the local community of Kartong, who benefit from the development and running of the resort and who will assume complete responsibility in twenty-five years time.
Sandele is a beautiful place, full of good energy and smiling and happy people to share moments with others. Thanks for everything, Sandele, Kartong, Gambia... Sandele is perfect to stay calm and take energy. ABARAKA BAKE

My air bnb driver did not show to pick us up from the airport. So I was greatful to be able at last minute to walk in at 1130 pm to book a room There is a resturant onsite and they serve ok food. Fried rice was delicious. Wifi- was poor because there was no service in my room. I had to keep going to the pool area. Rooms. Outdated as is the front reception, the pool creates a false illusion. Owner needs to invest in renovations. As there is power talking to be better. Payment : In trying to sort out usd to dalsi etc and not agreeable on the change I was to recieve back. They Manager gave me back 100 USD along with my change for payment by accident. But the time I realized I had this extra 100 I had already arrived at my intial accommodation, air bnb. And was going to travel back to return the funds then following day. This was where it for really weird. The Manager and a taxi driver were waiting outside of my air bnb to collect. It was so inappropriate and I felt unsafe and would never stay at this little place again. Also the night staff mistakened my conversation about politics within Africa, as an invitation to come to my room?

Sindola Safari Lodge also known as the Paradise behind the Coconut Tree, offers a peaceful untouched enviroment amidst numerous coconut trees, Lush Gardens, boabab trees and bougainvillea. A perfect hideout spot to relax, unwind and enjoy the heavenly peace and beauty of nature. Just 1 hour 30 minutes away from the airport it is highly suitable for conferences, events, retreats & honeymooners.
We prolonged our stay here due to the corona crisis. We were the only guests. Sophie was very helpful in giving us information. But be aware, sometimes the electricity goes down, sometimes internet is not available for a day and the water is switched off temporarily. That having said, we have slept well due to the cool breeze, the lay-out of the premises (6-7 cabins + pool) is nice. Staff is a bit lazy (last night dirty dishes are still there at 11 o'clock in the morning). No hot water, but take a shower in the afternoon. The pool is refreshing. The food is good, due to the French proprietress. Free transfer to Dangane by piroque (30 minutes) Mar Lodj is just for relaxing in your hammock, there is not much to do. Just enjoy.

Harmony Resort Boutique Hotel is located on the cliffs of Brufut Heights. This offers uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Brufut beach area is one of Gambia's best beaches. Located away from the tourist areas. To get to the beach you would need to make your way down the rust colored cliffs. Harmony Resort Boutique Hotel has 13 suites, facing the ocean. There is an outdoor bar/restaurant and an outdoor pool. There is a huge garden perfect for sunbathing.
substandard for westerners negative: smells unpleasant, the furniture mostly desolate, the doors broken, dirty, unsanitary, internet miserable. the view from the room is on a dirt road that resembles a garbage dump. the pool is dirty, and the beach also a garbage dump. The breakfast is meager. Unfortunately we did not see the room before paying. We left 3 days early because the hotel was so bad and did not get any money back. Supposedly the hotel is in the best location, but the Gambia is a developing country (gravel roads, garbage everywhere). After 6:30 you don't want to go out anyway. Even the most expensive hotel in Gambia (Coco Ocean) has the same problems and deserves the same rating (only at triple the price). positive: the staff is friendly and helpful.

We had a really lovely time at this beautiful hotel. The Reception and Guest Relations team could not have been more helpful, the waiting staff friendly, polite and efficient. In fact all the staff were super from the management to the cleaning and grounds team. Rather than leave tips as we went along we left 10% of our bill total at the end which is shared among the staff. The location was fabulous and sun-beds and cabanas plentiful and comfortable. The spa was beautiful and compared to other hotels of the same standard very reasonably priced. We ate at the hotel a lot and didn’t have a bad meal - the Thai was especially lovely (we didn’t realise you could have the Thai menu in either of the restaurants) and again not too pricey. All in all a fabulous stay - we will be back.
