We booked this motel based on reviews. The staff were excellent. They helped with our iternet connection. The owner was at the front desk and couldn't do enough for us. They definitely would get a 5. The issues were with the room. The motel is very dated. I'm hoping they are in the process of updating rooms because they need a chance and maybe time to rebuild. Our bathroom was newly renoed. What a blessing but the bed was very ucomfortable and there were soft spots in the floor. On the good side, there was a fridge and a microwave. Location was easy to find.

Mystic Isle Motel - Wawa's nicest rooms and premier accommodations situated close to Lake Superior beaches , waterfalls , hiking trails & the golf course . The snowmobile trail goes right through our parking lot. We're nestled on a hilltop in a quiet birch grove with a beautiful view of Lake Superior & rugged Michipicoten Island.
Spent one night at the Mystic Isle motel in Wawa and just loved it. Just off the highway with a beautiful view and walking paths was a real treat. The room was nicely decorated with a country cabin feel. It smelled great, was very clean and had a comfy bed. A great stay after a long day of driving. We recommend it!

Nestled in a scenic valley of pine and birch trees just outside central Wawa, HIGH FALLS MOTEL AND CABINS offers an ideal accommodation whether you are vacationing in the region or just passing through. Our cabins, built with a vertical log construction method, provide a traditional Canadian log-cabin experience with all the amenities of modern accommodation.
We stayed in one of the motel rooms. The place was clean and even had a small kitchenette. Just outside of town on a hill nestled in the woods the place is very scenic. The only drawback is the walls are thin and unfortunately the idiots next to us decided to chat up a storm until midnight. Otherwise the place is fine.

Comfortable spot to rest with nice service. Easy and quick check in. Room was a regular motel style of room. Nothing too fancy, but just what we needed for a stop to shower and sleep. Rooms hold one bed and a small bathroom. Friendly service that was easy for check in and check out.

Luxury affordable rooms. Pub & Patio Bar including downstairs nightclub.
Apparently we got the last room available. It is an old hotel with a restaurant and a bar that is on the main floor. We got in late (8:30pm) but were able to get some food at the bar (kitchen open until 9). The bartenders were friendly and the food was just ok. We stayed in room 202 which is an ok room and it was clean, but…. the new tub shower was not plumbed correctly because the sewer smells were directly venting into the room. To make things worse than toxic fumes coming into the room is that there was no fan in the bathroom and no electrical outlets. Not sure if this remodeled room was ever inspected, but I would assume not. So not sure about the other rooms but I would if you are staying here please avoid room 202 if you don’t want to breath toxic air.

The positives: -Rooms are clean -Beds are comfortable -Staff is friendly and helpful - they even accommodated a later checkout for us because our van was in the shop. For this we are very grateful. But there were also Negatives... which accompanied with a $180 price tag brings down the rating. -its noisy at night - sound from the hallways. -no hairdryer - only 2 large towels, 2 small towels and 3 face cloths in a room that sleeps 4 - no coffee in room - though there is a complimentary coffee bar downstairs. - it's newly renovated with high quality materials that impressed me at first but son you notice the workmanship is questionable and I think in a few years they will be dealing with issues. Too bad this reno is what makes probably makes staying here so expensive. - no luggage rack Another thing to note. I was bummed there was no fridge only to discover at night (when it kicked in) that its been placed inside the cabinet - just an FYI for anyone that may find themselves thinking the same. For our second night in Wawa we booked at the outdoorsman, and for $150 we got a complete kitchenette and table, in comparison the Big Bird Inn is grossly overpriced.

I am writing this for my partner who stayed here on February 28, 2022, but I paid for the room in advance as I had had a good experience there other times ( 2019 and earlier). The following occurred for him and owners have not open to discussion nor compensation. These are from my partner's notes: No toilet paper, no heat and thermostat was non-functioning, so room was very cold. No staff on site, no other clients, completely empty parking lot, no restaurant, no front desk despite that the Expedia review says "only one room left." Does that mean there is only ever one room available? If so, why is this one room so unliveable? Freezing inside but no bath because tub stopper did not work. When unscrewed, a disgusting wad of hair was preventing closure. After phone calls for help, a young man arrived with a portable heater and rubber tub stopper. Thank you, but the room did not feel vetted for function or supplies. Also, impossible not to track in wet snow as the front door mat was barely large enough to catch a drip. Very sad because years ago this was a great place to stay. Whoever owns it now is not responsible nor communicative and seems to be misleading with advertising. Cost of $ 118 for the night was also the highest paid anywhere on the trip from Toronto to Vancouver Island. For example, The Days Inn in Medicine Hat cost $ 90 for a swimming pool, sauna, free breakfast and a lovely warm room with a bath. Disappointed to have to write this review. The owner was given three phonecalls and a text with all this information documented to provide opportunity to discuss. He evaded all conversation. His customer service person is a woman who seems to do her best but is difficult to understand due to language dialect. Not her fault but just another added challenge on top of many other cold and lonely challenges.

Good comfortable, firm bed. Pristine, newly renovated bathroom, there’s a fridge and microwave in the room and room darkening curtains. I didn’t see a coffee maker but Tim Hortons is around the corner. This definitely exceeded my expectations for a roadside motel and will happily stay here again. There is plenty of parking and the Wi-Fi signal is strong.

The people who run this lodge are the kindest and most generous hosts I've ever met. We passed throughout here on our trek across Canada, and they made sure we had an incredible stay, and were very personable and genuine the whole time. We were served the most incredible breakfast hash for breakfast, and we were also offered cheesecake for dessert after dinner (which wasn't on the menu!). The food was delicious! Our accommodations were great! Definitely rustic but you can't beat having your own cabin, your own door to your accommodations, and being right on the water, especially with us having a dog! I would recommend this to anyone looking to get off the beaten path a bit and who want to enjoy some time out in nature. I would gladly stay here again, and my partner is already planning to come out again for a fishing trip.
