This charming hotel is member of "Chateaux & Hotels de Collection", is located on the border of the Robertville lake in the natural reserve of "Les Hautes Fagnes". Take a break, relax yourself in our brand new spa NUXE, enjoy an gastronomic diner facing the lake and appreciate a sweet night in a cosy bed.
We were looking for a quiet spot with a nice spa, where we could have a getaway for a few days and enjoy long walks in the area. The hotel seemed to match those criteria perfectly well. Even though we stayed there during the week, the price seemed to be quite high (more like a 5-star hotel somewhere in a city), however we expected something that would justify it. On the first day of arrival we asked for some hiking tips/map, instead we were briefly explained where to go, which turned out to be a bit of a disaster and not all suitable for walks. The next unpleasant surprise was the dinner - way overpriced (but WAY), the portions were miniscule - and on top it wasn't good at all - meaning the pasta was overcooked and so on. The next surprise waited at the spa - while it's quite a nice set-up and you have it all to yourself for one hour, they don't clean between different time slots - meaning the people who were there before us just left the door open for us and there was nobody (LITERALLY) from the hotel staff visible inside (the same was the next 2 days). The next surprise was breakfast - it was included in our room rate (otherwise you have to pay 14EUR per person) - in return you can choose musli or cornflakes, a yogurt, a juice (not fresh) and a hot drink. And you get a piece of bread and a croissant (not the quality you expect for the price you pay). Eggs (in whatever form) come at an extra cost. Another surprise was with cleaning. We were not told upfront that there is no cleaning whatsoever (of course it's COVID and everything, however it's difficult to understand why for instance towels couldn't be changed or at least the trash bin taken out). As the trash bin was maximum 5L, of course the next day we were flooded with trash that we had no clue where to put, so we had to take it out ourselves, to go and see if somebody could give us dry towels and so on. Overall it was a disappointment. Like big time. When you pay some 600EUR for 3 nights during the week (not holiday season), excluding dinners, you have certain expectations, which were not met here.

Our char ming hotel is located in the heart of East Belgium, in the highest town in Belgium and bordered by the RAVEL cycle and walking route. You are close to many activities such as skiing, hiking, bike riding... 15 rooms, a terrace and an outdoor pool are available. Also opportunities for seminars and receptions in modular rooms at will.
We ate at the restaurant and stayed one night at the hotel. We had a very strange and infuriating experience there. While checking in we were serviced by the owner of the hotel and Restaurant who looked like he was in a bad mood. Very short answers and in general rude behaviour. Apparantly there is a bar associated with the restaurant which is frequented by people from the village. When we were eating at the restaurant, a group of other guests from the village came in and one of them, who was talking loudly, was not wearing a facemask as is obligated in Belgium at this moment. My friend kindly pointed this out and the lad did not take this well. He started to mock with us and continued to annoy us on purpose. After about 10mins we openly confronted him about his behaviour (again) and he got very aggressive, suddenly a knife got thrown our side and just nearly missed our heads. The staff saw all this and did nothing. We got up and left because we didn't want to get involved in a useless fight. But we first explicitly told the staff what happened. The owner didn't want to listen to us and pushed a younger lady from the staff forward to listen to us. We got the response that he was a regular guest and she too didn't like him either but that they couldn't throw him out as he was a 'good and regular' guest. We left the restaurant quite shocked after that, only to discover that our room was right above the bar (room number 2). The whole evening there was a lot of noise which continued until 2 am and left us unable to sleep (although bars have to close at 1 am at this moment). When we checked out we wanted to talk about these two points which heavily impeded the quality of our stay with the owner (who first ignored us after the knife incident), but the owner told us we didn't have to explain him how to do his job and got very mad very quickly. He almost became aggressive and started shouting whilst also not wearing a facemask anymore. The room was basic but clean and spatious and the food at the restaurant was very nice, credit where credit is due... But our experience told us that after 38 years the owner is not open for any points of criticism and in my opinion close to a burnout. He clearly values guests (mostly from the village) that come to the bar to spend € more than the ones that paid 95€ for a room for one night. You can't have a bar open until 2 am with loud guests and your hotelrooms directly above it, it's just not an acceptable combination. If you go here don't expect good service, and if you are experiencing problems there will be no space to discuss this or look for solutions.

A small beautiful hotel in a quiet location with a very good restaurant. Lady at reception was friendly and welcoming. We got a spacious and elegant double room, which looked freshly renovated. Bed was very comfortable with a high quality bed linen. Big flat TV in the room, but, sadly, no fridge. Bathroom is also renovated, and has everything you may need. Breakfast was nice, continental, with tasty homemade cakes, but nothing special. Dinner was just amazing. They offer a set menu with two choices for a starter, soup, main course and a desert, you can take all the courses, or just some of them, price will differ. All the plates were beautiful, and the food fresh and delicious, very close to a Michelin starred restaurant. Sadly, the restaurant seems to be open only for dinner (7 to 9 pm), and not lunch. There is a nice lounge area next to the restaurant, with some books, games, and a big TV. Behind the hotel is a big lawn with a lake view and some sun loungers. Steep slope is leading down to the lake, but we didn't find a path and couldn't get down to the water. Castle Reinhardstein is in a walking distance from the hotel. To get to the castle, you can follow the right side of the road in the direction of the dam (lake), it will turn into a dirt road, and then into a forest path. Follow the road through the forest (there will be pastures on your right-hand side), and when you reach a small crossroad with a picnic table, take the left path, which will decent to the castle. We found that that's the easiest way and it takes 20 to 25 minutes to reach the castle from the hotel. Do not miss it, as it's definitely worth a visit!

We've visited this lovely place a couple of times now. When visiting this place, Peter and Peter the two owners, make you feel right at home. They've turned this place into a warm and cosy setting. A living room, grand piano, books music and fireplace with a beautiful view of the surrounding area, invite you to unwind and relax. Some carefully selected items, make you smile at life. Everything might not be 100% efficient, for us this adds to the charm. The food is perhaps the true value on offer. At a leisurely pace, one delicious course after another is served as part of a surprise menu. Food is delicately prepared with fresh and local ingredients. The wines on offer are well chosen and with their moderate prices add further value. Go here, enjoy hiking in the surrounding hills during the day and let yourself be thoroughly spoiled.

Esther and Fred were extremely welcoming and friendly. We were tired and wet when we arrived having cycled from Aachen. We left feeling reborn!! Excellent breakfast and they also cooked us a hot meal when we arrived. It was sooo nice - like a homestay. I would totally recommend this place.
