At Christmastime, the entire city of Valkenburg seems to sparkle with festive light. The annual underground Christmas market is a hallmark of the city, lasting from mid-November through December 23. It’s held in the Velvet Caves, a maze of 12th-century passageways that lies beneath the remains of Valkenburg’s hilltop castle. The caves and castle draw visitors year-round. Valkenburg is a biking city. It's a great base for cycling tours and is a two-time stage finish site for the Tour de France.

Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure, design with character An old brewery gets a new location: a design hotel, in the middle of a lively mix of facilities and nature. A hotel that compiles raw elements with fresh design. Extraordinary class, with a rough edge. Design, with character. Imagine yourself in the opulence of nature, meeting luxury. Designed right next to the Geul. An environment that invites you to discover, explore; an adventure. You wind through the southern hilly countryside while cycling. A burgundian lunch, and then a stroll through the old city of Valkenburg. In the evening, a whiskey – neat – or a martini – on the rocks – at the bar of RUW. To then wake up in an environment of raw design with a warm touch. A refreshing wellness shower, a cup of coffee – black – and a view of nature as far as you can see, start your day. Ready for a new adventure. That is the description of an overnight stay in Hotel Valkenburg by Mercure. Class, with a rough edge. Design, with character.
Although we are not cycling fanatics, we had a great stay in this hotel. Nice big room, clean and good breakfast. Close to the city center within short distance (1100 meter walk). A great base for a weekend!

Located on the edge of the Ingendael nature reserve, just outside Maastricht city centre, the magnificent Château St. Gerlach has been sensitively restored to provide an exceptional, luxury hotel experience. A member of Relais & Châteaux, the historic buildings, including original estate farmhouse, convent and grain lofts, have been converted to accommodate 114 guestrooms, two renowned restaurants and a boutique spa. The St. Gerlach Pavilion & Manor Farm has added a traditional coffeehouse and state-of-the-art meeting venue, accommodating up to 1,000 guests.
The property of Chateau Gerlach is really beautiful, it's open, beautifully landscaped, places to walk, wild horses to be seen just outside the property, a vineyard and orchard to wander through - it's all lovely. The staff is very friendly and do their best to make you feel welcome. However, the hotel rooms are in need of a serious renovation. It is disappointing as soon as you walk the hall of the hotel where th e carpet is old and industrial like, the doors are also plain and very simple. Inside it is obvious it was last updated in 1996. The bathrooms are terribly laid out with very bulky fixtures. The furniture is classic but worn. This cannot stay a 4-star hotel without some upgrading. Also the breakfast buffet and room is lovely EXCEPT that the staff is completely overwhelmed and the chairs in the breakfast are oversized metal chairs which on a tile floor makes a terrible noise. Also it seems the guests are not staggered, everyone shows up at 10am, no place to sit, staff running everywhere to get breakfast served, they are smiling but they look completely stressed out. We will return once this hotel gets their hotel logistics in order and their rooms renovated. You really pay a lot for NOT a 4-star hotel room. We also did not have our room cleaned one day and no turn down another, something goes wrong with logistics here. Also when the staff is cleaning they make a huge mess at the entry of the building, you are blocked by towel trollies and sheet trollies, there must be a better way. We did appreciate the free mini bar in the room and we liked that our dog was welcome. By the way there is no airco in the rooms, it was quite stuffy. If you are there in the summer, beware.

A World of Wellness on the top of Cauberg hill! In the middle of the dreamy South Limburg hills you will find Thermae 2000. The beautiful view will give you the feeling of being on holiday in the south of France. This is one of the few places in the Netherlands where you can enjoy the refreshing and healing powers of extremely healthy thermal spring water. Start your relaxing weekend away in the biggest health spa in the Netherlands. Covering no less than 1200 m², it has something for everyone. Take a tour around the sauna landscape and then enjoy the warm indoor and outdoor pools with thermal water from our own spring. Complete your overnight wellness stay with one of the many treatments. Among other things, you can choose from massages, facial treatments or workshops.
We had the most amazing stay and went home feeling totally relaxed from our hectic schedules, everyone was super accommodating. Julia Q gave me a facial massage which was out of this world, great housekeeping, Ingrid (waitress) was adorable and had a lovely aura about her, also a waiter (with glasses, I can't recall his name) was incredibly accommodating. The food at Pure was out of this world! Wow! The facilities are fantastic. The no phone policy is amazing and nice to sit on the terrace. I've already booked another stay in June for my Mum's birthday. I will definitely be recommending this place and look forward to coming back.

It is a lovely place with a bit of that "old glory" vibe I find really appealing. The hotel was comfortable and ideally located at walking distance from the city center. The staff was efficient and friendly. All in all a very nice experience.

We stayed for two nights in the new year. (Sat till Mon) We had the two worst nights ever in a hotel. Sadly, room nr #4 (second floor) is really noisy. Not only do you hear everything that happens on the stairs, also the room above (#9) can be heard very well. Saturday two young people arrived around 00:15 at night and started to play music in their room and kept hearing footsteps. There was no night clerk available so in the end I wnt up at 01:15 to attend to them because we could not sleep. Although the music was turned down we stayed awake till 02:30 because of the footsteps. Next day we complained at the reception. They apologized in a sense she could not believe it happened. But when asked they told us room #9 would not be booked and we would have a good night sleep ahead. Sadly, the next morning from 06:30 we again heard footsteps in the room and were unable to sleep again. Apparently there was a late arrival and a family of 4 including two kids were occupying room #9. On checkout, the woman at the reception did not show any understanding. She came up with excuses that it's an old building. But when I stated they should not advertise the rooms as being "soundproof", she diverted that all other rooms were. It is a really nice looking hotel and it has great jacuzzi rooms. But after paying over 450€ and not getting any understanding about the situation I find poor hospitality. The hotel was almost empty because of covid, so it feels like a wasted opportunity to have us being fed up like this. Other down-side, apparently there were issues which made it impossible to pay by card, and we were explicitly asked to visit two supermarkets and get cash for a cash payment.

Hotel Atlanta is located close to the town centre and is a few minutes walk from restaurants and shops. It is also just a short walk away from the caves which is the town’s main attraction. We were there for the Christmas markets in end November this year. The hotel though small was very well appointed. Clean rooms, crisp linens, toiletries and a substantial breakfast were all part of the deal. The staff were friendly and polite and were kind enough to hold our luggage even though we had checked out, till we were ready to leave. My friends and I had a comfortable stay there and are happy to recommend it to anyone visiting Valkenburg.

We found the rooms to be very dirty: dirty bedsheets that smelled of previous residents, toilet was not cleaned properly and the room smelled of old food when we arrived. Upon requesting the staff to clean, we got a very rude response and no action was taken. We eventually moved to another hotel nearby

The complex is located in the middle of farmlands on the edge of Valkenburg and has a lot to offer. For companies who wish to meet, for guests who want to explore the south of Limburg, or who want to enjoy the cosy town of Valkenburg, for guests who want to experience the atmosphere of times gone by, for Lovers who are going to mary or for people who organize a party. In short, something for everyone. The complex consists of the castle, the Carriage House, the outbuilding called "Tiendgebouw" and the Gatehouse. In the Carriage House are the cosy apartments and in the "tiendgebouw" the stylish hotel rooms, the Gatehouse has a brasserie and the Castle is a private house. Hospitality is our top priority, you will feel at home at Castle Schaloen.
We had a nice stay at the castle, enjoying the surroundings and the beautiful terrace. The rooms were however a bit old fashioned and could use some renovation, but the price was like a 5 star hotel. It's okay, I hope the owners will do their best to update the rooms and its furniture and bathroom some time in the near future.

Outdoor dining is also possible thanks to the restaurant’s heated terrace, surrounded by evergreen plants.Valkenburg town centre is only 1-minute walking from the Hampshire Classic Voncken and is dotted with an array of lively cafes and boutiques. Maastricht, Liege and Cologne are all within easy reach from the hotel
I chose this hotel to spend the night with my colleagues on our casual business outing in the city of Valkenburg. We had a great time. The rooms and public area’s of this Classic family owned hotel are nice and clean. The extended breakfast buffet was tasteful. The staff was friendly and made our stay as enjoyable as possible. A great new feature is their newly renovated lobby area and hotel bar. A must visit if you like Classic hotels.

Despite the fact that this place got a number of favourable reviews and a high rating, I found that the overall structure is old, lacking of modern comforts. For example the bathroom (i.e. toilet and shower), was in a small area adjoined to the room assigned and not in the room itself and, most importantly, WITHOUT HEATHING, meaning that there were no radiators at all in this small area, so that to take a shower was an overly refreshing experience. The basin instread was in the middle of the room. So to have a proper dressing one had to shuffle from the room to the small area outside of the room and viceversa. The family which runs the establishment is a young couple with kids, plus in-laws. Of course they try to be polite and ready to satisfy the customers needs: professionality is something else! Breakfast is very ordinary and of poor quality, but enought and in line with the local abits. The first morning I had breakfast at around 7.30 a.m. and in the breakfast room there was a dozen of local workers (who evidently have a special accomodation with the establishment) and monopolized the entire room by talking loudly the one to the other and going in and out to smoke cigarettes and drink coffee, so that the room (which is never overheated) became soon very cold. This pack was the same that in the evening drank beer at the bar. I did not feel like trying to have dinner (from 5 to 8 p.m.) in the place. All in all it is an isolated place, resembling more a (bad) countriside B&B, rather than a hotel; for 3 nights you can survive, but why you have to complicate your life, when there are many other hotels in town? Prices are not cheap for what you get and despite the fact that they have your credit card as guarantee, the want to be paid upfront, before they give you the key of the room.
