Centrally located Umbria's principal cities include Spoleto, Assisi, and Terni. The capital, Perugia, is famed for its chocolate. Take a tour bus or prepare for daredevil Italian drivers if you opt to rent a car. Assisi's Basilica has a host of treasures, including works by Giotto. The town is also home to the crypt of St. Clare, patron saint of television. St. Francis' meditation retreat is in the mountains to the north. Classes at Velia's Cooking Style in Terni make good use of local produce.

Hotel la Terrazza, nestled in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity among the olive groves of Assisi's hills, is located only 800 meters from the historical centre of the city and near to the tourist sports complex. Thanks to its position, which looks over the green Umbria valley, the mornings here are soft and sweet, and the sunsets give the building's stones, the so-called 'pietra rosa' of Mount Subasio.
What a fabulous hotel. After a day walking around Assisi the hotel is only a 20 min walk or 5 min drive from the town. Great decor, fab views, lovely and clean, friendly staff, lovely warm room with comfy bed. Delicious breakfast and to top it all off the spa is a real treat. Can't recommend highly enough. Very reasonably priced too.

An upscale hotel in the center of it all! Our beautifully renovated Sangallo Palace Hotel is located in the historical centre of Perugia a short stroll from the fascinating and historic Rocca Paolina Fortress. Visit the monuments and tourist attractions of the city centre on foot; relax in the covered swimming pool and use the fully equipped gym that the hotel offers you; enjoy the genuine Umbrian cuisine in our well known Restaurant "Il Sangallo".
Our 4th stay at the Sangallo Palace Hotel and unfortunately the worst so far. The first 3 were much better in terms of cleanliness, efficiency and friendliness/customer service. Had this been our 1st stay I probably would not return or recommend the hotel.

Hotel Il Palazzo is set in the left wing of Palazzo Bartocci Fontana, a 16-th century building halfway between Assisi's Basilica of Saint Francis and Piazza del Comune square. The building has been completely renovated in October 2017. Rooms offer free Wi-Fi. Some rooms on the 3rd floor offer views on the rooftops and the Umbria Valley. Il Palazzo's breakfast room feature original vaulted ceilings, stone walls, and striking modern decorations. Breakfast is buffet style.
Close to to any where, only less than 5 minutes walk from the the Basilica Francesco d Assisi, and other points of interest. Easy to catch up sunset, sunrise or morning mass to the Basilica. In contratst, we were in Assisi 3 years ago, and stay in the City. We could bot explore to the “real Assisi”. Room is clean, beautuful with classic art at the ceiling and spacious for 3 person. They have prepare the bed for my boy. Got the 2nd floor with view to the street and the valley. Lovely!. I Resto and small tavern is close by. Dont go to the popular rating. Try the under rated one since they will serve you well; they just not lucky enough to get you to review them. I found some popular resto at Assisi, are too “over rated”, they are bad service and so-so only. Back to hotel, I believe that any good hotel, the people make a distinction. No exception to this hotel. Julian is so helpful and informative. Parking is free, and only 10 max walk from the hotel. The hotel no attendance after 8PM. They prepare the key for us to get in. We enjoy the stay.

Relais Villa Monte Solare Wellness & Beauty nestles in gorgeous grounds punctuated by cypress trees and fountains a few miles from Perugia. An enchanting villa, that for centuries was home to an aristocratic family, it is now a delightful boutique hotel with an excellent restaurant, two swimming pools, a tennis court and a pampering spa. Rooms and suites at Villa Monte Solare are distributed between the villa, complete with marble fireplaces, terracotta floors and antique furniture, or in one of the 350-year-old farmhouses on the estate, also beautifully furnished but with a more rustic feel. Take a cooking class with the chef to learn authentic Italian cuisine and then try to match a wine to your dish with a wine tasting session. In between swimming, relaxing, spa treatments and tennis find some time to visit some of the nearby villages for a feel of Umbrian life. End your day with delicious Italian cuisine in Villa Monte Solare’s Dolium restaurant and Capaninna pizzeria.
Hotel located in a beautiful context, so much potential. Badly managed. While some staff members are very nice, most of them are ill trained, we felt abandoned. Definitely Not a place for family, but also would not recommend for couples given the many options in Umbria of other great hotels. Terrible service at the restaurant, one writer for all of the guests. He did his best but if you do not have the personal there is not much you can do. Waited very long for meals. Then they would bring all meals at once, not acceptable given the prices. The same holds true for this hotel, very nice but expensively expensive for what you get and for the tipe of amenities. SPA is very small. You have to decide ahead of time and reserve if you wish to use it, before you arrive at the hotel. Stressful. Windows do not have mosquito nets, problem if you wish to enjoy the fresh air from the countryside. Swimming pool water was very cold. Only one pool. Most of the time there was no staff to ask questions, when we did, most of the times they did not know what to respond, or simply the answer was NO. It’s more of a 3 star superior then a 4 star hotel. Prices are excessive. It is a very unfortunate because the hotel grounds are lovely, some of the architecture too, but many details have been left behind.

Hotel Giotto in the center of Assisi The location in the center of Assisi, different types of rooms, beautiful suites with all the comforts, COFFEE SHOP with a panoramic terrace overlooking the entire Umbrian valley , RESTAURANT with more than 600 seats offering typical revisited dishes, specialist in EVENTS and WEDDING. A CONFERENCE CENTER with advanced equipment and finally a SPA, directed by professionals of WELLNESS, ideal to find the balance soul - body.
We really enjoyed our one night stay here. Most private vehicles are not allowed all the way up the hill to the hotel so be prepared to take a taxi. The hotel floor levels are oddly numbered in the elevator(s) so ask which way to go before taking one. US customers: they do not turn on the AC here until mid-May so be prepared to sleep with the windows open. We were very comfortable in early May since the night-time temps were in the low 60s. Some rooms have splendid views of the valley below and others do not so ask for a room with a view. The restaurant is in the basement. We had one group evening meal and one breakfast here. Both meals were very good.
