My stay was short, just a few nights before traveling onward. I decided to pick a new hotel so I can experience new areas of Tokyo. I’ve been traveling to Tokyo since 2005 and always seem to stay in my comfort zone, so I decided to try Ikebukuro. After comparing various hotels, I chose Hotel Metropolitan because of its cost, location, ease of access, and overall peer reviews. Getting there was kind of stressful, but none of that was the hotels fault. Due to the late time of my arrival and some public transportation bus/shuttle routes being cancelled due to the pandemic, I had to adapt on the fly and make my way to the hotel. Once you get used to it, the hotel is very easy to find and many modes of transportation are available to from either airport. I eventually arrived and got checked in rather quickly by the efficient and polite staff. The room itself is very clean and cozy, as I’d expect for the rate. I’m not in my room much during the day so I don’t need a lot of space. However, I had two large pieces of luggage with me, and opening those in the room was difficult, given the size. Again, that’s to be expect in Japan, but take note if you are bringing lots of luggage. The restaurants/bars inside the hotel are great, especially the breakfast buffet. I don’t use the hotel restaurants too often as I like to explore and eat out, but they are pretty busy and seem very nice. Outside the hotel, there is a Family Mart, 7-11, and anything else you may need, within walking distance. The most impressive thing, on top of everything else listed, is the customer service. As busy as they are, they still manage to accommodate each guest, with politeness and a smile on their face. This means a lot to me because traveling can be stressful sometimes, and knowing the hotel staff has your back is important. Specifically, Yoshitake, who works the concierge desk, helped me multiple times. Whether it be belong me catch a taxi, printing out forms, finding an adapter for my laptop, or helping me find the fastest route to the airport, she specifically went out of her way to help me, and I’m very thankful for that. Hotel Metropolitan is highly recommended, give them a try if you are looking for a great place to stay in Ikebukuro.

The rooms are about the same size as at the economical Toyoko Inn brand, and barely any better outfitted, but cost almost twice as much. So what do you get for that extra money? A breakfast that is slightly better than Toyoko's, a fancier lobby (several floors up from the street entrance), a mattress that feels like plywood covered with thin cloth, and a TV that turns on EVERY time the guest enters the room. What it doesn't have is a place to print a boarding pass or anything else. I've been to many hundreds of hotels in 50+ countries and never before encountered a hotel that lacked that facility. The desk person actually told me to go do it at a convenience store. Japan is a very modern country so should be embarrassed this deficiency. This hotel is overpriced for what it offers.

The front desk staff at the hotel are incredibly rude. The hotel staff didn't even have masks on. It says that alcohol is served as a welcome drink, but in fact it is not. When I asked about it, they just said that it was not written. The room was being cleaned from 10:00 to 15:00, so we couldn't stay in the room even if we were staying for consecutive nights. The room was halfway cleaned and littered with garbage. The room was also very small. The water pressure in the toilet was so weak that the large toilet did not flush. The wifi was also very slow. The walls are thin and noisy, and you can hear conversations in other rooms. They say they have a breakfast buffet, but you have to pay an extra $15 for it. There is disgusting garbage floating in the large bathroom, probably from the customers' bodies. When I complained about this, the staff was very rude and told me to go to another hotel. The price does not match the service at all. There are a lot of hotels with cheaper prices, better service, and better mannered staff than this horrible hotel. I would recommend that you look for a different hotel if you are going to pay for your stay.

Hotel
Rooms are small (maybe 90 sq ft) but that's expected in greater Tokyo. Good value for what you get. Well managed hotel and I was actually surprised how well run hotel is. Only minor negatives are rooms lack safety box and hard to figure out how to call front desk from phone in the room. Didn't notice any english instructions on how to use phone. Hotel can even be more efficient if they allow guests in some way to indicate whether new towels, supplies are needed. Didn't need my room cleaned or made up but housekeeper still left a bag of towels, supplies outside the door every day. Room provided a lot of stuff (like pyjamas) you don't normally see at hotels, esp budget hotels. Great location as mita line station is like 100 m from the hotel and the JR line station is only like 200 m from the hotel. Very impressed with this APA hotel, which is first one I stayed at. I assume it's standard policy to charge extra for early check in, like 1,000 Y for checking in 1.5 hrs before normal 3 pm check in time even though I would be check out at 6:45 am rather than the usual ~11 am check out time. Well organized area in front of reception area to store your luggage. Clean room. Bathroom is small. Maybe 25% larger than bathroom on cruise ship. I visited onsen on 14 th floor but never tried out. Stayed here 4 nights in Dec.

Followed the other reviewers’ advice, the hotel is easily assessable from exit C6 on the West exit of Ikebukuro station. We were in Tokyo during New Year holidays and decided to stay in Ikebukuro area as we’re concerned that most shops may be closed in other areas. The surroundings of the hotel seems quiet (probably due to New Year holiday) but there seems to be a department store just across from the main road. The underground pass also has many shops and link all the way to the livelier East side. The room is a bit smaller compared to other hotels we’ve stayed during the trip but that was expected & probably because of the space taken up by the washing machine cum dryer (which was the other reason why we chose this hotel). Detergent was given during check in and there’s a simple instruction on the machine on how to operate. We love the convenient location of the hotel & the convenience of the washing machine in the room! Definitely will consider this hotel when we visit Tokyo again.

An 8-minute walk from JR Ikebukuro Station and a 3-minute walk from Sunshine 60 Hotel Wing International Ikebukuro is a quiet hotel that is a little off city traffic. The front desk is open 24 hours and safety is taken into consideration. Even women alone can stay with confidence. (5 km from Shinjuku Gyoen in Tokyo, less than 5 km from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office) Rooms at Japanese-style business hotel are equipped with a desk and a flat-screen TV. All units have a fridge. It offers a continental or Asian breakfast. There is a restaurant specializing in Japanese cuisine. The nearest airport is Tokyo Haneda International Airport, 20 km from the hotel.
Everything about this hotel was average in my opinion. Nothing really stood out. The only real complaints I had is 1) that the rooms don't have individual control of the air conditioning (it's central air), so we spent the 1st night having to sleep in 28degC, and 2) the hotel borders a busy, noisy street. The staff did adjust the room temp the 2nd night so we were much more comfortable. Room size was small as expected, but everything was clean and relatively comfortable. The breakfast cost 1100Yen and was OK.

Just 30 sec walk to the hotel from JR station, across the street there is a supermarket in the B/F, and good restaurants upstair. Silent and clean district, good for girls travel alone. Breakfast buffet is included, many variety of drinks. Simple breakfast, eggs and breads, yogurt, I think it is good enough. Room is a bit bigger then others in Tokyo. I lived in AMP before.Plus it is Clean and tidy. There are plenty daily use items you can get them for free in the lobby, such as cleanser, bath salt, brush, moisturiser... Smoking rooms is not preferred cos the smell is very strong, so if you are a smokers, better choose a non smoking room and smoke outside the hotel.

This hotel is in an excellent location, about as close as you can be to the Yamanote line. It's easy to access the rest of the city. The Internet access, air conditioning, and overall comfort at the hotel are great. There are no amenities in the hotel, but everything you really need is available and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
