A wonderful place to stay. Just a few hundred metres from the Beach at Kottegoda. Set far back from the road on a wonderful Colonial Style Villa, surrounded by Coconut Trees and beautiful planting, the driveway to the Villa itself is regal and stunning.. Peacocks, pranced across the lawns and a small troop of playful monkeys entertained us for hours as they play in the trees near our Villa. The rooms are tastefully decorated, with outdoor bathrooms that allow the rain to fall into the room, which is fitted with high quality fittings. The Chef and Staff at Handun Villas provide excellent food and 1st class service. We were impressed and would happily return.. Well Done all. Thank you Heshan Steve

Some places we do not merely visit, we become a part of! Places that touch your spirit, and replenish your soul. Where time fades, and your only schedule is the turning of the tides! Welcome to an undiscovered Beach Resort Sri Lanka paradise. Welcome to Talalla. Talalla retreat is a boutique hotel, offering barefoot rustic charm on the Southern Beaches of Sri Lanka. The retreat sits on Talalla Beach, an undiscovered cove of crystal clear turquoise water, spotless golden sand and mesmerizing sunrises and sunsets. Of all the resorts in Sri Lanka, Talalla offers its guests a level of elegant simplicity just metres from the lapping waters of a secluded cove. Here, time is measured in moments of serenity and pleasure. It is a place to get away from it all and to absorb the unsurpassed natural beauty of Sri Lanka. A jungle paradise, Talalla is built low rise, and set into lush gardens, resplendent with tropical flora. Monkeys play in the coconut palms as they sway softly in the breeze. Monitor lizards roam freely as they have since the days of the dinosaurs. Squirrels twitter as they dart through the grass. And at night, fireflies lightup the surrounds, guiding you lightly to your villa.... Relax in the 20 metre freshwater pool, swing in a hammock or lounge on a sunchair by day and by night indulge in a cocktail at the bar, or lounge on the sofa nearby. Sri Lanka’s best kept secret is waiting for you, are you ready to replenish your soul and get in touch with nature?
We were really looking forward to a relaxing end to our two week stay in Sri Lanka and had booked a beach hut thinking it would be tranquil and beautiful being in the outdoors. We were very wrong! On checking in we were told to put all our belongings in the assigned cupboard so that the monkeys wouldn't get things, that was fine but one of the locks was broken so our case had to be pushed against it. We were also told there are a lot of mosquitos at present - they were not wrong!! We got no sleep the first night feeling things crawling all over us regardless of the amount of debt we had doused ourselves in. They provide insect killer so we got through a can of that daily as well as the burners they provide. Regardless we were covered in itchy bites throughout our stay. On returning home we continued to get bitten so had to get pest control in to treat bed bugs. I have contacted Talalla Retreat as a courtesy and they responded adamant that the beach hut that we stayed in does not have bed bugs and we are maybe reacting to mosquito and sand fly bites. All I know is 6 days after checking out I am still getting bitten and have had to pay pest control £250 to treat my flat and go through all the inconvenience associated with an infestation. Aside from this, the beach is beautiful, the pool was ok but be prepared to have insects constantly crawling all over you. I also found the staff quite arrogant compared to those in the hill country and we did get approached by one (persistent) member of staff wanting to take us out on their tuktuk on their day off but who can blame them for trying. Overall I probably wouldn't go back.

Hot & cold water in bathrooms. Two single beds with mosquito net and ceiling fan with breakfast. Lunch and dinner could be ordered. Traditional Sri Lankan massage is also available.
Excellent Food freshly prepared for every meal....but, the manager (Kelum) had local police there everyday and night drinking, getting drunk and making alot of noise. We stayed (3nights). Kelum told us this was because he was having trouble with the local fishermen and villagers using his facilities. This is what made an uncomfortable atmosphere. The place has alot of potential and Kelum is working hard and is passionate about making improvements.

Garden Villa, is a newly built comfortable villa, with a gated lush garden and only 50 meters from Talalla beach.

Homely Stay near the Thalalla Beach.
I had a truly amazing stay at Jasmine Resort. I only stayed one night, but husband and wife Chameera & Nethmi went above and beyond for me. They were some of the kindest, warmest, and most welcoming people I have met on my travels and made my stay as beautiful and comfortable as possible. The room was clean & spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and it is only a 2 minute walk to the beach. The lush garden outside was also a delight. I highly recommend staying here if you're ever in Thalalla! Thank you, Chameera & Nethmi, for your hospitality and kindness.

Sun Bay Lanka is just one minute away from Thalalla beach, one of secrets beaches in down south. You can see turtles coming ashore to lay eggs from Dec to Feb.
After struggling - to put it mildly- with an unexpected rave in our guest house in Mirissa, we decided to seek quieter arrangements. We hired a motorcycle and stumbled upon the Sun Bay before being on the utterly treacherous roads too long, this was an extremely welcome piece of tranquility. We had filled our tank full expecting to travel far and wide in search of a special place, so we explained the situation to the owner and within 5 mins he had a queue of locals lined up with 1 litre plastic bottles ready to buy our surplus petrol at a slightly reduced price - brilliant! After our arrangements were made to stay a few days we returned our bike and then followed the perfect instructions from the Sun Bay owner to get back. What ensued was a 5 day period of absolute bliss. Great food, nice place to stay and a perfect beach to boot! We also met some great people here, too, and we are now friends for life. We’d go back to this area in a minute! It’s a hidden Sri Lanka gem!

My place is close to great views, restaurants and dining, the beach, family-friendly activities, and nightlife. You’ll love my place because of the views, the location, the people, the outdoors space. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and big groups.
We were here 23- 27th March 2019. Kumara and his family were excellent hosts. Lovely room on the first floor. Very clean. Homecooked food by Kumara's wife Nadeeka, the best Sri Lankan food we tasted on our trip. Very reasonable prices. Kumara was kind enough to take me to the hospital in Matara several times when I required hospital treatment and was available to translate for me. We really felt part of their wonderful family and were truly sad to have to leave. They also organised us a taxi back to Colombo for our flight home. We both hope that we will be able to visit again soon. Watching a family of monkeys from our balcony every morning was interesting, And only a minute from a lovely quiet beach. A big thank you to the family for their wonderful hospitality. Jim+ Cilla (the guy with the bite on his finger!)

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this guesthouse! The whole family were really lovely - they made us feel welcome and comfortable to sit whether we wished within the guesthouse (they have an outside table, a big balcony and inside chairs). Our room was comfortable and had a fan which was ok for us! The beach is really stunning and is very quite at the moment which was very nice. From what we could see there was only one or two restaurants - the one in the beach front was so so so good!
