Wedding on Isles of Scilly

Reviewed By originalswiss

We had the greatest pleasure to stay at St Mary's Hall Hotel for our wedding. Our ceremony was conducted in the Porthcressa beach room overlooking the beach just a two minute walk from the hotel. We had our own private room for our reception, just off the main restaurant in the hotel for ourselves and twenty three of our close family and friends. The food served was excemplary, as it was for all of our stay. All the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our requirements not least on our wedding day. Particularly a special thanks to Petra and Peter on reception and Oliver and Yasmin on front of house. Thank you all so much.

Delightful hotel in a great setting

My brothers and I stayed at the Schooners for 5 nights to celebrate that we are all now retired. We loved our rooms, all of which had lovely harbour views and we found the welcome of staff to be warm and friendly. The food was absolutely superb and this together with the views and the sound of the sea lapping against the beach from our rooms make it worthy of far more than its' 2 stars.

Wonderful hotel

Our third and best visit to Star Castle. We had a garden room with garden - a large comfortable room with a private deck opening onto part of the gardens. We had travelled from another island, were picked up by the hotel minibus and driver at the quay and were given complimentary coffee on the ramparts (yes, it is a castle!) while our room was prepared. We had everything we needed and every staff member we met was cheerful and helpful. We had dinner in both the Conservatory Restaurant and the Castle Dining room - the food was excellent though the Conservatory restaurant had a tendency towards small portions (though beautifully presented). Its nice to see a menu which is a straightforward fixed price four courses - no prices, no extra charges for certain dishes. We were very impressed by room service food and drink - no extra charge for room service. The grounds are beautifully kept and extensive enough for a stroll. Would recommend and will return!

Lovely restful stay

This hotel was nicely decorated, both in the bedrooms and in the public areas. I had a light and aitry twin room and a beautiful bathroom. The staff were delightful, so kind and helpful. The location was ideal, close to shops beaches and the quay. The food was good, only fault was that we had breakfast slot of 7.30 - 8.30. Maybe that was the decision of the tour company. I cannot praise the staff enough for their kindness. Hope to return some day.

Beautiful and well-run hotel in a lovely central location a few minutes from the quay. We had a sea view room that was small but lovely, clean and comfortable. We ate in the excellent restaurant (the breakfast was particularly good). All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Crebinick House

Welcome to Crebinick, our family run B&B located on Church Street, right on the doorstep of Hugh Town's restaurants, shops and the the quay. We are just moments from Porthcressa and Town beaches and a short stroll from the coastal path. We think the Isles of Scilly are incredibly special and we are doing what we can to keep them that way. So, you'll find all of the comforts you would expect while knowing that we are doing what we can to reduce our impact, for example by avoiding single use plastics and unnecessary packaging and by sourcing our ingredients locally, where possible. Our 6 bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms, flat screen televisions, radios, hairdryers, complementary toiletries and hot drink making facilities, and a jar of our homemade biscuits. We have a sitting room for our guests and WiFi should you wish to stay connected. We like to know what is in our food and where it came from so our ingredients are locally sourced and our food is homemade, where possible.

The reviews really say it all and are so well deserved. Looking forward to next year already, although trying not to wish the time away.

Only a 5-7 minute pleasant walk with splendid views brings you to Hugh Town, where you will find shops, restaurants, pubs and three beaches and lastly the harbour - where you can hop on the daily boats to the off-islands. Five minutes in the other directions you will find Old Town and coastal walks. We have B&B rooms as well as a self catering flat.

SHORT BREAK

Reviewed By Villeneuve1959

Booked a couple of nights rather last minute, and lucky to get availability in this well reviewed B and B. Location fine about 10 mins walk to harbour. Room very clean, but poor outlook if of concern, though not to me much as out all day. Carmen was most helpful and kind with anything I needed or information. The cooked breakfast as good as one would want, just with one other couple present, totally acceptable for me on a Covid level. This converted house has limited soundproofing; though hosts and guests were as quiet as normal, this the only factor I would mark it down for. Otherwise a great base to stay in St. Marys.

Fantastic!

We hired both cottages together as a group of 13 (aged 8-48). They were spotlessly clean and well stocked to a high standard. The furnishings were comfortable and there was both enough space to be together and enough to have privacy. Sabine our host was welcoming and knowledgable, always colourful and happy to answer any questions about the isles. We enjoyed the fireplace and the outdoor fire pit as the night sky was outstanding. The location was great for us away from the town but within walking distance and near to some of the most diverse and breathtaking bays with wonderful views. The Islands themselves were all so different and the trips across exciting for the children. We managed to see puffins and seals amongst other wildlife and felt that these island gems have not been spoiled or commercialised. We had a large delivery sent across from Tesco in Penzance but actually found the St Mary's co-op to be well stocked and reasonable. Thoroughly enjoyable week with some great memories. Try the apple strudel in Sabines cafe and you will not be disappointed!

April Cottage was recommended by friends to whom we shall always be grateful. Our hostesses Janet and her daughter Louise made us feel "at home" from the start to the departure. The cream tea with potato cake was very welcome after our nearly three hour voyage. Our room was spotless and equipped with everything we needed. Breakfast was a feast with so much to choose from. Although we did not have a sea view at April Cottage it was only a few minutes walk to the coast and the town. Alec continues to visit at breakfast time to give helpful advice on the availability of sailings to other islands On departure day collection of our luggage by the local carrier was arranged by Louise who made it clear that we were free to leave our hand luggage with her and use the facilities until sailing time later in the day. Would we stay again? Oh yes given the opportunity.
