Upon arrival at the hotel, the clerk was very kind and helpful as I do not speak a single word of Italian. Got me checked in, gave me a room key, and helped me with directions twice when I could not find the direction of the elevator. This was the only positive part of the trip. The room was dilapidated. Door handle nearly falling off when I went in. Light switches (rocker switches) were all beaten badly and flipped so easily they could slip down and shut off on their own, or so stiff they barely clicked. I noticed the fuse panel was open as well, but will return to that later. Brought my luggage in and went to the bathroom. The hand-towel rack and shower door were both hanging askew, and could not be fixed. Every shower I took covered the floor in water because a) the door would not close and b) the shower head was so loose and old that it would not stay in the position you put it in, always sliding back to point out of the perpetually open door. there was also a long, dirty string going up to another rocker switch INSIDE the shower. I tried pulling it but nothing happened. I assume it went to ventilation for the room, but the ventilation duct (above the shower stall) had been completely ripped out, and there was a gaping 5" round hole overlooking the shower. After I tried the restroom out, I attempted to close the fuse panel, which was hanging open. To my dismay, when I pushed the panel shut, all the lights went out. I tried every switch, and realized that I must have pressed one of the switches when I close the door. However, when I opened the door, all the switches were in the 'ON' position. I could not read the items, so I pulled each in turn. I found the lighting switch, which had had the fuse removed and was kept pulled out, bypassing the safety circuit for the room. I had to leave it like this for the duration of my stay, or have no lights. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, so firm I could have been laying on the desk and it would have felt the same. The sheets were hard and scratchy, and the blankets not much better. 1 pillow per bed, also mashed flat. I did not remove the covers to inspect, only covered them up with a t-shirt to make it more comfortable. Breakfast was one of the sorriest affairs I have ever seen. Continental breakfast began at 7a and ended at 10a. Allowing for the first rush of business people through, I arrived at breakfast my first morning at 7:45a to find a small amount of extremely cold food that should have been hot, and an even smaller amount of warm sliced fruits. The eggs (scrambled) looked like they had cheese melted over the top, but upon putting a scoop on my plate, it was apparent that it had congealed from sitting in a cold tray. It was in a warming tray with what could have been bacon, but the tray heater was never lit, and so everything sat and cooled off/congealed. The following day's breakfast was only marginally better, because they did not serve ANY hot food. I got there at 7:05a to find the tray empty. There was plenty of sliced fruit this morning that had not sat out for nearly an hour, so I filled my plate and hurridly finished to get out of the dirty dining room. There was one waitress bussing tables/serving coffee, and she did not stop by any table unless directly called to, she was so busy. The front desk (not sure if it was the same clerk) made no appearances during this, despite having the door to the kitcen within 2 feet of the front desk. The straw that broke the camel's back was the refridgerator. I went out for dinner that night and got a small pizza. I could not finish it, so I tried to store in the room's refridgerator. Unfortunately, the fridge was plugged in, set to max cold, and was still not functioning at all. I had to throw out half of my food because there was nowhere to put it. After looking at the other reviews for this hotel, I decided my best course of action was to check out early. The same clerk that checked me in was very concerned and offered a room, but I had had enough. I showed them the issues, handed in my key and left. I was scheduled to stay from 11/26 to 12/7 staying for business, I checked out on 11/29.

Hotel Michelangelo’s modern facilities offer the perfect combination of convenience and luxury, an ideal solution for those travelling for business or leisure. Hotel Michelangelo’s strategic location at Sassuolo (Modena) makes it easy to reach if you are coming from Modena, Reggio Emilia or Bologna, and makes the hotel a perfect choice if you plan to visit Fiorano Modenese or Maranello, the home of Ferrari and the Ferrari Museum.
Again, a three-star max property masquerading as four-star (not their fault, I think, it must be the uneven criteria of the Italian rating system). Smallish rooms, small TV screens, erratic air conditioning. On top, they kept the restaurant closed, except for breakfast, which was nothing to write home about either. For us, it was a pit stop on our way further south. For that, it served its purpose.
