Enjoyed a two-night stay for exploring the reserve as well as shorter trips here and there including the La Selva Biological Station. The room was spacious, clean and comfy especially with the ceiling fan and AC. Very quiet at night. The paved walkway from the parking lot to reception and our nearby room made for easy movement of our wheeled luggage. Lunch and breakfast were buffet style while we ordered from the menu for supper. Food was tasty and portions were more than enough. Staff in the bar area and restaurant were friendly and most accommodating. I particularly appreciated the servers pointing out the trogon in a nearby tree and their attempt to teach me spanish for buffet items. We appreciated seeing the sign mentioning Sir David Attenborough having stayed at the Lodge as we have enjoyed seeing various wildlife films which he narrated. The long swinging bridge over the river is not for the faint-of-heart but provided access to the rain forest on the other side. There, the well maintained trails contributed to our birding experience. All-in-all we thoroughly enjoyed seeing numerous birds on the property in addition to reptiles, frogs, bugs and the like. Howlers relatively close to our room added another dimension to our stay at Tirimbina Lodge. Would we stay at Tirimbina Lodge again? Most certainly!

Hidden in the foothills of the impressive Braulio Carrillo National Park, the Spanish colonial-built Hacienda La Isla Lodge is very well located in the center of numerous top attractions of Costa Rica.A perfect gateway for your visit to the rainforests and the adventure sites (rafting, canopy, horseback riding, etc.) of Sarapiqui, the exotic Caribbean beaches, the active volcano Arenal or the world famous Tortuguero canals and sea turtles. Guests will encounter the mysteries of the rainforest while enjoying a comfortable stay in the historically designed rooms of the hacienda. Hacienda La Isla lodge is a unique departure from the common tourism experience in Costa Rica.
Very warm welcome from the owners. A place where you feel part of a family. You’re not a number but a true guest. Rooms are comfortable but not luxurious (and they don’t have to be). The swimming pool is really nice and enjoyable. The trail around the property is a good way to start a hike in Costa Rica. Easy and short (1h).

Heliconia Island changed hands over the last couple of years. You can no longer get a guided tour of the gardens but they are still beautifully maintained and you can wander through them at your leisure. This place is magical and so who really cares if the accommodations are a bit on the rustic side with squishy mattresses and a cranky electrical system. Breakfast was delicious and accompanied by a wonderful show of tropical birds attracted to the papaya and banana that owner Pier put out for them. We also enjoyed canoeing on the Sarapiqui, but be prepared for a bit of effort to get the canoe down and later up the steep and muddy set of stairs leading to the river.

This was our first stay as soon as we landed in CR. After a long flight, this hotel immerse in the lush vegetation was perfect for us to have a sense of the Costa Rican wildlife. Gardens are well maintained. Rooms are simple, but quite big compared to others we stayed in. restaurant and restaurant personeel (Jonathan, Hazel and Bianca) were very friendly. The only downside I can say is that at times I could hear our room neighbours, but other than that, everything was great!

As keen bird/wildlife watchers - this was our favourite part of our birding trip to Costa Rica Rooms are basic, but they are functional and comfortable - and the place is well looked after & clean. Food is good, and is just what is needed after entire days spent walking through the jungle And (if you're a fan of birds/wildlife) why on earth wouldn't you want to spend your entire day walking through the jungle - it was INCREDIBLE - I cannot exaggerate how much there is to see here - the jungle is alive with birds, insects, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc. I could happily spend a week or even 2 here, as no two days were alike Probably worth hiring a local guide for at least some of your time here - for us it was a real privilege to have somebody who had grown up locally share their 40 years of knowledge, understanding, enthusiasm, and love of nature with us If we ever return to Costa Rica - La Selva will be at the very top of the list!

Mirador Prendas is a rural tourism project 100% Costa Rican located in Horquetas of Sarapiqui. We have multiple services and activities available for the whole family we have a unique architecture. We operate canopy, rappelling, river safari, paintball, guided walks and more. We also offer shared, private and The Tree House Room.
What an extraordinary creation this is. Costa Rica’s biggest wooden dwelling, this is an idiosyncratic, beautiful place in a rainforest setting. Every room is different, every one of them charming and individually designed. We stayed four days. The family who run the place are so friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed both an intrepid night walk and a walk through the forest to a waterfall. I wouldn’t miss this place for anything! The road does need 4WD, but we went by public transport and they will help you organise transport up to the Mirador. Don Prendas, the creator, was very interesting to talk with (in Spanish) - and plied us with his home made liqueur too. In short, we loved it. Do visit- I’ve never been anywhere like it!

Beautiful place near Sarapiqui, we used it as our base for white water rafting and horse back riding. The breakfast was delicious and the cabin just perfect. But what sets Epic Adventures apart from everyone else is the kindness and warmth from the owners and everyone else. We will be back soon!
