When doing the Albsteig, I spent my first night in the Hotel Zur Schmiede in Immeneich. We were welcomed by Mr. Meili (also Swiss as we are and in love of the Black Forest), enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, had an excellent dinner (Spätzli and deer with a local wine) and slept well in our quiet and cosy room. Furthermore Immeneich is just a few minutes by car from St. Blasien with its famous dome - but St. Blasien is far more touristy and less quiet to stay overnight. Whenever I return to the area, I would stay again in Immeneich and in the "Zur Schmiede". Note: The Albsteig is a hike along the river Alb from its mouth in Albbruck to its origine on the Feldberg. About more to say. Airport transportation: The airports of Basel and Zurich are not too far and public transportation is excellent - just consult the Swiss SBB timetable for connections to Immeneich. The SBB timetable gives the best information for trains and busses, not only for Switzerland, but also for Germany.

We arrived without a reservation, they managed us for two nights. We ended up staying three. Staff is very friendly and responsive. Rooms are clean well appointed with old world charm. Great breakfast included, dinner menu is very nice and food is great. Place is located in the center of town, convenient to shops, stores and cafes. Don church is behind the hotel across a small plaza. Seemed to have many guests that enjoy hiking in area. Wonderful place for couples. Very affordable price.

We went for one night in the Hotel during the “Domfestspiele St. Blasien”. The concert “Lord of the Rings”. The Hotel is directly located at the “Dome” and in the middle of the city with lots of Coffee houses around. And it’s very quiet in the night. The Hotel itself is an old house and very charming. For us the rooms looked newly renovated not a long time ago. The room was very clean and also the bath. Spacious enough and a very good bed. We felt very comfortable in the room. A charming room. The breakfast is served directly at for the room reserved table. All is freshly prepared and the warm dishes fresh cooked. So you get a boiled egg which is not hard. You can also have cereals, fresh fruits different kind of coffee (also latte, cappuccino and so on). You can order the breakfast at the evening so it’s not a long time to wait. A really good breakfast. All the staff are very very friendly and helpful. Also a big plus for the hotel. We had dinner in the evening so we can also recommend the restaurant. All in all we have really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. Thank you very much

Beautiful pace to be. Away from tourism and with a mind-blowing nature. We were there last winter and we hiked every day in virgin snow. It was like a fairytale. The hotel owners are really lovable people with a service mindset. We will definitely go again..

What a treat to stay at the Silberfelsen Hotel! We couldn't have wished for a more charming and comfortable place to stay, with equally charming hosts, Sabina and Sylvia. Menzenschwand is a small hamlet tucked away in a lovely valley set among the beautiful hills and mountains of the Schwarzwald. Our room was perfect, with two comfortable beds, nice bathroom and plenty of space, opening onto a balcony. On the ground floor there is a separate bar and relaxation area where guests can relax and enjoy snacks and drinks. On the first floor is the dining room where a sumptuous breakfast is served daily, with every imaginable thing available, including scrambled eggs and real bacon but also lots of typical European breakfast goodies. We were staying with a group and we fortunate enough to also have our evening meals in the restaurant. Sabine and Sylvia did an amazing job and treated us like royalty. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

I stayed here with my brother for 3 nights as other more high end locations were full. The first impressions on arrival are poor with very steep stairs and no help offered with cases and the car parking near the hotel was very limited with no advice offered as to where to park if it was full. The bed was uncomfortable. The sheets which were due to be changed each 3 days (not enough) but even on the 3rd night we stayed the sheet were not changed, the tills were not changed daily, the owners claims we only stayed 2 nights but wr stated 3 one on booking.com and two paid separately . My brother who stayed in a separate room did break the toilet seat which we immediately informed the owners of. The reaction was unfriendly and 15 euro estimate was demanded and a receipt produced for this amount. We did pay this even though it was petty considering the small amount and the big profit the hotel would have made from our stay. However this fee has no bearing on my review which is an honest assessment of our stay. The breakfast was awful with poor fare from the local supermarket served by the owners which did not work. Breakfast material was in short supply and requests for extra milk were met by a frosty reception. The breakfast was truly awful and the coffee terrible. There were babies crawling around the kitchen area where hot drinks were, this was very dangerous. The whole eexperience was of two inexperienced owners, brother and sister totally in over there head. Awful place, do not stay here.
