10 hotels in San Salvador: Best hotel deals for 2023

August 12, 2022 Enriqueta Cusson

El Salvador's capital, San Salvador, is a modern city of wide boulevards and narrow streets, outdoor markets, government buildings, high-rises, monuments, an exuberant nightlife, museums and other cultural institutions. And all set against the backdrop of San Salvador volcano. The city is surrounded by shantytowns as well as affluent suburbs with restaurants and large shopping malls. Peaceful settings such as the botanic garden of Parque Cuscutlan provide a break from the city's hectic pace.

Barcelo San Salvador

Worn-out Hotel

Reviewed By Y4049QWcarloss

Ever since Barceló bought this hotel, things have been going down hill from there. Seems like the change really did come at a bad time, considering covid and all. My wife and I stayed here in April and we noticed that they have started to assign only the bottom floors. They also only assign the the rooms that face the city and leave out the rooms with volcano view. Maybe they only give them out to customers who don't book with discounts, which would explain why we had such a lack of attention to detail in our stay. The room was not nice, the minibar was empty (although we did have the fridge connected in the room). They used to offer courtesy drinks at stikers bar and now they stopped doing so. The hotel looks worn-out, carpets, towels and linnen. My towel was so thin that felt like it was going to get torn. Cuttlery at the restaurant was aweful too. Overall I didn't enjoy the feeling I got while staying here since I couldn't help comparing it with the "hotel" I've been visitin for over 5 years now. I recommend management to do something about it asap.

Nice hotel, no longer has a big pool

Reviewed By ASwend

We stayed four nights for a wedding at the hotel. We really enjoyed the property and the staff was very nice. Food was excellent and service so nice. There is a nice fitness center with good equipment. Be aware, the large swimming pool you see in many review photos, no longer exists. It has been remodeled to an open patio/courtyard. The current pool is really quiet small,. This wasn’t a big deal for us but if the pool photos are a big draw for you, take note! We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again regardless if we were going to a wedding there.

Sheraton Presidente San Salvador Hotel

Poor check in and service recovery

Reviewed By EdMotion

When I checked in, they knew full well that I am an ambassador status in the marriot programme. (This is the highest, after having achieved platinum life and titanium) still they did not have the usual suite upgrade for me, they actually gave me a room that you get as a walk in guest, except this was on the so-called club floor where the view is blocked from anything interesting. I gave them three days to correct my situation but not even a response from the managers. If you are on the marriot programme don’t bother staying here. It’s not near anywhere and you get treated poorly.

The staff was very friendly. I felt very safe. However, I did find the rooms to be quite outdated. The breakfast was pretty good. The pool was beautiful but had quite a lot of dead insects in it, so I could not use it. The landscape is up to par and clean. It is within walking distance of a few shopping and eateries.

Vacation

My family and I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in San Salvador, El Salvador. The reception at the hotel by every employee was second to none. They made us feel at home immediately. From the employees at the front desk to the cooks, maids and all other employees, they were all extremely helpful, friendly and courteous. This hotel is next to an outdoor mall called La Gran Villa. Lots of restaurants and department stores (outdoor and indoor stores). This is a very safe area to walk around. Lots of security, and friendly people. We did not see any criminal element in the area. This was our first time in El Salvador and the experience was great. The Marriott is centrally located to many of the activities and landmarks in the country. I can’t emphasize how safe this area (La Gran Villa) is and how much fun it is to just hang out and enjoy a beer or some coffee at one of the many shops/restaurants.

Otherwise 5 stars, but issues with running water for multiple nights!

Reviewed By leoguam

Stayed here on a generous cash rate as a Titanium member. Easily a 5 star property if it weren't for issues with running water! The location in upscale Santa Tecla is great, the cash prices are competitive, and the hardware is new. The other redeeming experience was the warm and exceptional service from Magdalena during check-in and throughout my entire stay. I also want to acknowledge the property for upgrading me from the base room to arguably their best room, a corner studio suite at the top floor. If only all Marriott properties were as equally welcoming. I never had a problem showering in the morning. However, I started noticing water issues when the toilet wouldn't refill at night on my second and third night. On my fourth and final night, I had an early morning departure and again water wasn't restored. I went down to the lobby and the poor FD associate tried his best but alas he's no plumber/engineer. After nearly an hour of waiting, I went in desperation to the next door Courtyard in total sleepwear to pay for a shower. Thankfully, the Courtyard called the Fairfield who were finally (but temporarily) able to restore water. Frankly, had it not been my last night, I would have switched to the Courtyard after that incident. The property exceeded expectations only to undo and disappoint. I didn't receive a post stay survey after check-out which is also frustrating.
