Salou, on the Costa Dorada, nestles between quaint Cambrils and calm La Pineda. Just seven miles south of elegant Tarragona, the compact resort town is a family favorite, due in no small part to the existence of Port Aventura and Aquopolis theme parks. Gentle beaches and a slew of exciting fiestas in August add to Salou's appeal for families.

Firstly I consider ourselves very lucky in the fact that we even got away on our family holiday given all the airport chaos! The buildup was stressful and so overall I don’t want to or feel like we can complain about anything really. It’s the first holiday abroad we’ve done with our young children and it ticked all the boxes, we just wanted some time together in the sun with as little amount of stress as possible. Long gone are the days of a remote or adventurous five star honeymoon resort… what used to be top on the list of my priorities are very different going as a family. We chose the hotel because it was ten minutes from the airport, is walking distance to the town and the beach. All of these means it caters very well to families. The only negative thing I can say is that I was a little disappointed in our room. Given the fact that the hotel is four stars it just felt a little tired and in need of freshening up but the bedsheets were clean and if you want you can have fresh bath towels everyday. All the hotel staff are amazing- very attentive and approachable. From the reception team, the housekeeping, the bar staff and the restaurant waiters. The entertainment team create a great holiday atmosphere and seem to really enjoy what they’re doing. We stayed half board and I would say that the choice of food is vast and varied and seemed to cater for all dietary requirements. We didn’t have a bad meal time. All the tables are very clean and well presented. Staff are attentive and constantly removing plates that are finished with. It did became tiresome sometimes but with young children just makes sense and is far easier than going out to a restaurant every day. Everyone can just suit themselves and it’s all ready to help yourself. The pool is bigger than I was expecting and there were plenty of loungers. One thing I was expecting were towels for the pool however the only way you can get them is to hire them from the spa at €10 each deposit cash and you have to pay €1 each time you want a fresh one. Overall we’ve had a brilliant first family holiday abroad and it’s largely down to the hard work of the hotel and it’s staff. Salou is a lovey easy family friendly place to visit and it ticks all the boxes. We felt very safe and welcome.

This is a fantastic hotel especially for families with children. 5 minute walk to shops/bars/restaurants and about 10 minutes to the beach (out the main exit, take a left and then first right or carry on up for bus stop to Cambrils and more dining places. There is a little funfair in the centre and arcades for the kids too. Staff: very friendly and helpful. All speak very good english. The dining room staff are lovely, Ana on the front of house is a lovely lady, all the waiting staff loved my 7 month old and would entertain him whilst i got my other child his meals. Bar staff are friendly and look after you well. The kids club/entertainment staff are faultless they work from early til late each day to make sure everyone is catered for. Great competitions in the day for all ages, aquagym, kids club etc. and a minidisco at night - this starts at 8:45pm so always made sure my son had a teatime siesta! Food/drink: we were all inclusive and was worth every penny. Like any all inclusive it can get a little repetitive but there is a good selection and something for everyone. Children’s food at lunch/dinner such as pasta and either meat/plain sauce, pizza, fries etc. The snackbar is good too as my little boy was too busy playing in the pool to want a “sit down” meal. Breakfast time there are omelettes made fresh with your choice of filling and staff are happy to make toasties for you too etc. Drinks - slushies for the kids of all flavours, soft drinks, named alcohol such as Strongbow cider, Guinness, the lager is Cruz Campo. Bar staff are brilliant they work day and night to make sure we are catered for. They offer a waiter service round the pool too. Drinks not included have a small charge of around €1.80 and cocktails €5 - snacks such as crisps/nuts and certain ice creams also have a small charge but there is a good selection of ice creams on the AI Rooms - lovely and clean. Kettle, microwave, fridge and sink which was handy having a baby still on bottles. Safes are available from reception for a small returnable deposit. Rooms cleaned and towels changed daily. Great air con system. Outdoor: great pools although a little cold at first but do warm up as the afternoon comes. Great splash pool for little ones, larger pool where games and aquagym take place. Ping pong tables, pool tables and football/tennis court. Playgrounds for the kids all well maintained. The indoor pool is slightly warmer on the basement floor and there is another small childrens pool upstairs on the decking which is quite warm. Lots of sunbeds but the pool sides fill up VERY quickly with towels - pool opens at 8am and people flock to put their towels in “their” spot but we managed to get a bed no problem even in the afternoons - just not poolside which can be a pain with little children - but if u want to be near a pool i suggest you get up early! Entertainment: as mentioned, the entertainment staff and Tui kids club are amazing! They start early morning and dont finish until closing at night! They are great with the kids, remembering all their names and trying to engage them. My 3yr old is quite shy and they would all encourage him which was lovely. The main acts of a night some were a little bit comedic for the wrong reasons but karaoke night and the singing artists are brilliant! All in all we have loved our stay here and cannot fault the hotel or its staff. I would 100% recommend and will hopefully return again!

Located facing the sea, at only 100m. from Playa Larga beach which is accessible through a new promenade. Comfortable rooms with balcony, fully fitted bathroom with hairdryer, telephone, satellite TV, security door lock, heating, air conditioning fridge and optional safe-deposit box. Outdoor swimming pool for adults and children with a large terrace solarium and snack-bar.
Nice clean rooms with stunning sea view. I agree with previous comments that the rooms are small and no noise insulation between them. As all inclusive go it is OK, nothing outstanding. A great beach 10mins away. The lifeguard does a good job of managing sun bed hoarding and keeping the pool usable for all. Unfortunately this does provoke backlash from the lardarse mouthy English type !!!!

Nice hotel located very close to Salou centre. Pool is great with a separate kiddies part. The pool is deep at one end but shallow at the other for younger children. Lifeguard always present. The food was good with plenty of variety. Its served plenty hot enough for me but there are some microwave for those who demand it red hot... Breakfast was also a varied array of both hot and cold foods. Never spoilt for choice. The staff are all friendly and make you feel welcome. The rooms are spacious and spotless, cleaned every day. Looking a bit dated but everything works ok. Aircon works fine and keeps the rooms cool. I would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Salou

This was our first family holiday taking our little girl who is 2 and I was extremely apprehensive after reading some of the reviews! All I would say is, make your own opinion and keep an open mind if you have booked this hotel. I would say it’s not quite as bad as some of the reviews suggest, it is a Spanish 3 star and that is exactly what it is! Yes, the food isn’t great , but we always found something to eat and on the days we didn’t fancy the all inclusive there are some great restaurants minutes away which were reasonably priced. The dinner service doesn’t start until 7pm which I felt was quite late for our child. Same with the mini disco, 9pm is far too late for the little ones. The rooms are small, but clean with comfy beds and powerful shower. Room was cleaned everyday. Can be noisy at night. The pool area by the beach is abit crazy ! We went during half term so there was a battle in the mornings to secure a sunbed with umbrella and during the day the pool was chaos ! If we didn’t have a child with us it would have been my idea of hell!! The snacks by the pool were ok, drinks were good with a self service machine. The water park pool is great but disappointing that you can’t use your all inclusive there and have to pay for drinks. Beach is lovely, and literally on the doorstep of the hotel, very clean with clear water. We found all the staff to be pleasant and helpful. I probably wouldn’t return to this hotel but we still had a nice time and made some lovely memories.

It features a spa and 2 outdoor swimming pools, surrounded by sun terraces. All of the spacious rooms have air conditioning and a balcony. They also have satellite TV, a safe and a private bathroom. Interconnecting rooms are available on request. Free WiFi is available throughout. The spa includes an indoor swimming pool and a range of massages are available. There is also a gym, sauna and hot tub. The buffet restaurant offers a selection of Mediterranean dishes. There is a snack bar close to the swimming pool, as well as an English pub. Apart from PortAventura, local attractions include Aquopolis water park, hiking and quad excursions. Reus Airport is less than 10 km away.
We stayed here for a week from Monday 30th May. This is a long review but I’ve tried to include all the information that I was looking for before I went! Arrival: First impression was how spotlessly clean the hotel was. Check in was done quick and easy by a really friendly gentleman. Just a reminder that you need to pay a holiday tax on arrival at reception for adults (this is the same wherever you stay, not just this hotel). I cannot remember the exact figure but 7 nights for two adults was approximately €18. There are two blocks to the hotel, each with their own set of two lifts. We never had to wait long for a lift. The Room: We had a room looking towards Portaventura. This suited us but the other side was looking over the pool which some people may prefer. There was minimal noise from the road outside and you could hear the odd scream from the rides in Portaventura, but other than this we found this side to the hotel to be lovely and quiet. We had one double bed and one sofa bed (for two adults and two children). We found the beds really comfortable, yes they are firm but we much prefer this over a soft bed, and we all slept well all week. I’ve seen some reviews saying that their double bed was two singles pushed together, but ours was a proper double. The bathroom was lovely and clean with plenty of towels that were replaced every day, and shower gel and hand soap. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom, but I didn’t find it very powerful and after about a minute of use it would cut off (I’m assuming it was overheating). The balcony was a lovely size with two chairs but no table. We liked the fact the balcony wall was glass so you could sit there and look out at the view without any obstruction. There’s a tv in the room that only shows Spanish channels but we had no issue plugging in our fire stick just so the kids could watch the odd thing in the evening. There’s Wi-Fi which wasn’t the fastest but it was fine for what we needed. The room also has a desk and chair, but there were no tea/coffee making facilities. We still like a drink when away so took our own travel kettle. The room has a small fridge but once you remove your card from the electric slot it goes off. We made the mistake of leaving one of our cards in the slot when we went out but on returning we found the cleaner had removed it. So I wouldn’t risk using it for food, but for drinks it is fine. There are two plugs at the desk, and one in the bathroom, but there are no plugs by the bedside table which you would usually expect. The air con in the room was great, but I think it only comes on from June onwards (our first two nights were the last two days in May and it didn’t work but on June 1st it all started working). If you are using the air con, make sure the balcony door is shut or it won’t come on. We sometimes needed to shut it with a bit of force to activate the connection on the door to make the air con come on. There is plenty of wardrobe space with two drawers and hangers. There is a safe in the wardrobe which you need to pay a deposit at reception to use. Dining: We stayed half board and had breakfast and evening meal, however the hotel was very accommodating and on days where we had plans in the evening, they allowed us to swap our evening meal for lunch instead. Just ask the staff at the entrance to the dining room. We found the food to be excellent, there was always something there that we liked. They cater to a range of nationalities so there were things that we had never tried before but also plenty of more familiar foods. There is a big salad bar, a hot counter, a show cooking station where fresh meats would be cooked each night in front of you, a bread/pastry section, and a dessert section. Drinks with breakfast are free but drinks with lunch and evening meal need to be paid for. My only (slight) criticism is on our first night no one at explained how the dining room works and we found ourselves sort of wandering not knowing what to do! You need to go to the host at the entrance to the dining room and show them your dining card that you’re given when you check in. Once they’ve crossed you off you can choose anywhere to sit. A server will come to you, take your drinks orders and get you to sign a receipt. On leaving the dining room, take your receipt to the till and pay for your drinks. Simple enough but we were a bit confused on our first night what we had to do. One big issue for us is that both my daughter and husband are coeliac and need a gluten free diet. When I mentioned this on arrival, they gave us the coeliac menu and told us to let them know two hours before food each day what we would like cooked. On arrival then at the dining room for dinner, we were given a slip of paper with our order on which we then had to give to our server and they would go out to the kitchen and bring the food to us. The menu included pasta with different sauces, pizza, nuggets, chips, fish, burgers, meat, plus much more. However, after a few nights they both stopped ordering from the specific menu as we found with the salad bar, plus the show cooking station where they cooked meat, plus a few different other things like rice and potatoes, there was always plenty to choose from and neither of them were ill. The only specific thing they ordered for breakfast was gluten free pancakes, as there was always plenty of food they could eat like bacon, scrambled eggs, omelettes, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, etc. I have to give a special mention to all the dining staff. The hosts (especially Rosi), the servers, the cooks, they all work so hard keeping the place clean and tidy, and making sure the food is constantly replenished, they really are like a well oiled machine! The Pool Area: The pool is separated into a deep and shallow end by a bridge that crosses over the pool into the outdoor bar area. Small inflatables and balls are allowed in shallow end but not the deep end. The outdoor bar serves plenty of different drinks, cocktails, snacks, and lunch time has a menu of burgers, pizzas, chips, toasties and baguettes. Some days we couldn’t get a sun lounger but there is a huge seating area by the shallow end and we were happy just sitting there instead. The evening entertainment is based around this seating area. We only saw a couple of shows as we had other plans, they were in a mix of Spanish and English and were always good fun especially for the kids. We did particularly enjoy the live band on the Saturday night, they were great! Other facilities: There were plenty of other facilities at the hotel that we didn’t use. These include an indoor pool, spa, gym, kids club, games room and an Irish pub. We did have a wander and looked at them all but didn’t use any of them so cannot comment on them. One thing we did discover when wandering, if you take the lift down to level -2 (where the spa and games room is) there is an area with three vending machines that sells drinks and snacks. Location: The hotel is a 15 min walk into Salou in one direction, and a 20 minute walk to Portaventura in the other direction. The walk to Salou is flat but the walk to Portaventura is up a slight hill. The pool area has a gate that you can use to exit through the back of the hotel to walk to Salou which is a bit quicker, but make sure you have your room key with you as you need it to unlock the gate to get back in that way. We got a taxi back to the hotel from the seafront one night, there is a taxi rank at the top end of the seafront and it cost us just under €10. We did get a taxi to Portaventura one day, we asked at the hotel reception and they made the taxi booking for us which was a massive help. Again this trip cost just under €10. Overall we had a fabulous time at this hotel and will definitely be making a return trip at some point in the future!

Its the first time we have stayed here and have been super impressed. We have previously stayed at the Oasis park and Belvedere and this is by far the better all round hotel. At first when we arrived we thought the rooms was slightly on the small side and it was a bit to far from the centre, but because the entertainment was so amazing we was hardly In the room and we also didn't need to venture out so we got to appreciate this great hotel even more. A big shout out to Ivan and Meg in the entertainment team Shimmy Shimmy Shimmy The service from all the staff has been amazing and there hard work and efforts make the holiday experience far better.Always got a smile on the face. Buffet station at the pool is very good and offers a great selection. All meal times found the food hot and a wide selection, breakfast was the best and they offer a great fry up Toasties served in the evening behind the bar were an added bonus Both pools were nice and refreshing and managed to sneak a few hours on the roof top bar with jacuzzis which was top draw and offered nice views By far the best family hotel we've stopped in, and can't wait to get back
