We chose this hotel as part of a stopover, so we could visit nearby Yobuko (to eat squid). Looking at the Japanese travel sites, it was unclear to me what the difference was between the east and west wing, but I'm so glad to have chosen the east wing which turns out to be their newer addition with premium amenities such as a communal onsen bath by gender and a co-ed rooftop thermal pool/bath that you can go to in your bathing suit. This hotel appears to be owned by DHC, which is a Japanese cosmetics manufacturer because everything in the hotel bears their brand. The nice thing is that their products are very stellar and they are readily available. The communal bath is particularly well stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body soap, facial wash etc. They also have a full spa facility with steam and dry sauna, aromatherapy rooms etc It was also a pleasure to have access to the beautiful baths and pool almost exclusively. We spent a lot of evenings after dinner soaking on the rooftop, listening to the sound of the waves. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk away from the center of the city, but it is a beautiful route that takes you past the castle. The entire experience far exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

Really hard to rate this one. I've been to many ryokan in Japan and usually rate them 4 or 5, Yoshidaya is somewhere around 3.5. As expected, service is excellent, from our arrival with the car, parking, check-in and welcome drinks and orientation. The design of the inn is wonderful, understated Japanese design mixed with modern elements. The attached bar and foot bath area is a nice touch, and the adjacent shop is very nice too. Now for the downsides... The dinner was a bit underwhelming compared to other ryokan I've been to. Served in a private dining room/booth it's not really a full-on kaiseki dinner, but rather hit and miss fusion style dishes. I expected a bit better. Breakfast however was good. There are several private baths that you can book (around 2000yen) but we stuck with the public ones. Slightly disappointed as none of the outdoor ones had any views - they are just in a back yard. They are smaller than most other ryokan I've been to. On the plus side, the water is terrific - creamy smooth, as Ureshino is famous for. And the baths were not busy at all, mostly empty in fact. The Japanese style room is also the smallest I've been to in a ryokan, and there is no bath in the room, just toilet and sink. All in all there may be better options in Ureshino, especially at this price point. I would encourage you to visit the cafe and shop, though - even try the tree house, which is a nice touch.

During my whole stay at the Hamilton I felt very comfortable and had a very enjoyable time. I really, really enjoyed the complimentary drink on arrival in front of the fireplace, surrounded by board games and books, on lovely big leather armchairs. Wow!! The food was delicious and the breakfast one of the best that I have ever had in a ryokan. The onsen is also good, very chilled out place to bathe. The Japanese tatami style rooms are also comfortable and recommended. Good! Thank you to all the staff here!

I stayed one night at the Japanese room. The hotel is beautifully located next to the river. The hotel is very huge and has a beautiful Japanese garden. The decoration and the facade of the hotel makes you feel like you stay at the museum. However, the sound proof is very bad. The wall is too thin maybe because it is made of wood. If you are a light sleeper, you may reconsider stay at this hotel. Also, although the hotel provides free wifi, I could only use it when I was at the lobby.

This hotel was a really great surprise. Just a short walk from a JR station the hotel is situated right next to the ocean. You can fall asleep listening to the waves. The bathroom had a separated toilet and a big bathtub. The bed was really comfortable and you also had a few snacks as well as a water heater in the room. The city itself is about an hour walk along the beach or you can just take the train into the city. (just make sure not to miss the last one) When we were there (in October 2019) there was a construction side next to the water but since it seemed temporarily. Maybe ask before booking to get a room away from the construction side (still with ocean view)

This is not a very grand hotel however I had one of my best experience with Japanese hospitality. If you are not driving, you will need to make efforts on the bus schedule - that's what we did. The hotel price included delicious breakfast and dinner, one of the signature dish is the squid sashimi served alive. Our Japanese style room was outside of the main building, facing to the sea. It is spacious, air-conditioned and with a private onsen. Free wifi is only available in the hotel lobby.

Moment you step foot in the hotel. It will be to forget even that you are in the center of the spa town and Ureshino, busy every day. A quiet appearance surrounded by the cedar grove. Basic design of the Imperial Palace new palace was also involved, Design by Junzo Yoshimura late teacher of Japan Art Academy member. Casually, you want to be a inn that was prudent to every corner of the attentive attentive and appropriate to the furnished rich emotion. Since its inception in 1925, wishes to cuts, we has been made tireless efforts. I inherit cherish the goodness of hot spring inn, while continuing create a new charm of its own Taisho ya always. The customer service was very good. I felt Japanese hospitality. The building is old, but it is clean and comfortable. Although there is no outdoor bath in the main building, you can also use hot springs at Shiiba Sanso, so we recommend you to visit before getting dark.

Because of fairly mixed reviews, I had expectations pretty low. The surprise is I found the hotel rather good both for services and decors. It's literally on the moot of the castle and has a fantastic view with light on at night, reflecting water and surrounding trees. True, the building is a bit tired but not so much so that comments talk about it. I'm pretty satisfied.

The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Though there was much attractions nearby other than the Tosu Premium Outlets, the hotel was a welcome stopover after our overnight flight. The room was of normal size as in the rest of Japan and the breakfast was quite tasty. My friends and I had a few rounds before we were on our way again. A highly recommended hotel is you need a place to stay for a night when in this area.

The hotel offered both open air and normal onsens on basement and top floor. During our stay, there was a big group using the open air onsen, so we ended up the other. The onsens provided free cold green tea. Room was good size and clean. We had a specialty tofu cooked with onsen water during breakfast. It was delicious and could be bought at the gift shop.
